They are mostly timid but friendly when they get used to you. They can also be really vocal sometimes.
If you get one make sure you do not bath her in water. Give them a dust bath instead.

Shawnee123 04-17-2007 11:24 AM

I was looking at a site where they WERE bathing their chinchilla. Are they like gremlins where they turn mean if combined with water?

What is a dust bath, like what people use in the hospital when they can't wash their hair? It's a spray can thing.

Anyway, if I ever do have some extra cash I might consider getting one. They're really cute. Thanks for sharing your pics and giving me the idea! :)

duck_duck 04-17-2007 11:42 AM

I was told by the original owners that they hate water more then cats. You can buy chinchilla bathing dust at a pet store. What I do is put the dust in a cooking dish for them three times a week. :)

File that under "products I did not know existed"...

Shawnee123 04-17-2007 12:23 PM

I looked around a bit, and now I'm thinking the pic I saw was someone bathing a chinchilla but in the bath dust. They make all kinds of little compartments you can put your chinchilla in with bath dust, and it looks like they love it and play in it like a duck would in the water!

Cute chinchilla.

Not so cute, but me (in need of a shave, apparently) from 30 seconds ago:

Ibby 04-17-2007 04:08 PM

Chinchillas hate water because it can KILL them.

Their fur is so thick and fluffy that if they get wet, the water cant get out of their fur and they can easily freeze to death.

:yelsick:

You just made me very, very sad.

But you know what? Hugh Grant's head wouldn't look so huge if his body were closer to mine in size.

Sundae 04-19-2007 07:34 AM

I'm getting more of a young Richard E Grant vibe from the picture...

 yes, that too. Looks like there is something in a name. How can I apply to rename my son? I now want to call him Gandhi.

foot3, at first glance, I thought that you were just a torso on a table.

You're not just a torso on a table, are you?

Umm, it's a skateboard if you must know. A vintage Tony Hawk, and no, I don't feel like talking about it.

Movie quote of the day:

Legless Man: I have no legs. I have no legs. I have no legs. I have no legs. May God bless you. I have no legs..

Well... ok, one more:

Billy Ray Valentine: [while acting handicapped with no legs] Hey baby, whats happenin? I know what you thinkin baby, once you have a man with no legs, there's no goin back...
[she begins to walk away]
Billy Ray Valentine: We can make it baby! Me and you!... Ya BITCH!

Undertoad 04-19-2007 07:38 PM

I like the "one flap up one flap down" fashion statement.

But really it's the earnest smile of some contentedness, that's what this one is all about.

I really need a new hair style or something.

Ibby 04-28-2007 09:11 PM

Sorry duck2 but that hair makes you look like a 37-year-old school secretary.

You really, really do need a haircut.

duck_duck 04-28-2007 09:15 PM

I try to let it grow out but I always get split ends no matter what I do. Plus my hair just doesn't want to do anything else. It makes me look like I have a giant head.

Clodfobble 04-28-2007 10:07 PM

Have you tried cutting it shorter? I think you'd look cute with a short little pixie cut.

duck_duck 04-28-2007 10:20 PM

But it's really short as it is.

Clodfobble 04-28-2007 10:31 PM

Not this short.

duck_duck 04-28-2007 10:35 PM

If I had a pretty face like that I might work up the courage to try it that short.

DucksNuts 04-28-2007 10:46 PM

I agree with Clod, I reckon that would work for you!!!

Edit: And I agree with Clod too, the pixie look would suite you I think. Although you look fine to me now too. :D

BigV, you are distinctly George Clooney-ish in that picture. :yum:

Undertoad 04-30-2007 05:37 PM

Ig's: that's exactly what a ren faire broad should look like, all busty and whatnot! (But the glasses aren't period! STFU.)

Thanks BigV for sharing; lookitchu, it wasn't so hard after all was it!

And Syc, lookin' very strong, comin' back wit da chin hair. This is a good look, at this point. I didn't say it at the time but the near-fu manchu didn't seem exactly "you". In fact I can't imagine who it exactly is, unless you pitch for the A's or pillage for the barbarians.

elSicomoro 04-30-2007 05:45 PM

I did a summer of pillaging, but I wanted to be closer to home.

The 'stache sans beard was cool for a minute, but I'm glad the beard is coming back. Wolf will be disappointed that I shaved my head again, but the hair was just driving me nuts and I was getting impatient with it.

You are not the first person to make such a flattering observation, and thank you. :) Your check is in the mail.

I do like this picture. This is my happy face. I'm camping, the only electronics are the flashlights and my watch. I'm with friends (behind the camera). And it's a cool picture.

I am at the end of a hard rock mine shaft. Without the camera flash or my flashlights it is **utterly** dark. Not a little dark, not dim, not gloomy. Light-less. It was a pretty cool side trip.

:lol2: I can honestly say I have never heard that one before... And I enjoyed it quite a lot. Thanks all. :D

I was going to try and respond to everyone's comments... but there are so many, and I don't want to leave anyone out.

The only thing I wanted to say is I could wear contacts, but it is Kansas. For all of you that haven't been to Kansas in spring it is very, very, very windy. And there isn't much grass. So consequently I inadvertantly ate a lot of dirt that day, not to mention having to wash out my eyes every so often to get the dirt out of them. Contacts are very much not fun when they have stuff on them... :p

(I apologize if I misspelled anything, I am not on my laptop and this computer doesn't have word so I can't check my spelling)

Aliantha 05-01-2007 08:09 PM

Thanks Iggy and Zippy. That's not the first time I've posted my pic here though. Still very nice compliments though. :)

DucksNuts 05-01-2007 08:32 PM

Yabbut, I think they were distracted by your *balcony* last time Ali :)

You look very natural and pretty there luv.

Iggy 05-01-2007 09:12 PM

I know I have seen you, but I most likely got distracted last time and forgot to reply on your looks... I did used to meander about when I was at work. Now that I am at home I won't be bothered by pesky customers! I just am not able to be on quite as much...

And balaconies are quite distracting if I don't say so myself. :D
