Arizona Diamondbacks 2-1 San Diego Padres
Arizona is now 8.5 games up on the Padres. The Padres lose the last 3 games Peavy started in. He did look good out there, but Webb proved better in San Diego. Tampa Bay Rays 3-0 Boston Red Sox. Shields outpitched Beckett who started in Matsuzaka's place. This is no suprise result to anyone who's been watching. Tampa Bay moves into 1st place in the American league east. All this in a season where Kazmir has yet to throw a pitch. Tampa Bay sweeps the Red Sox right after sweeping the Jays, and now travel to Baltimore to face one of the weakest teams in the game. I'm about to watch Jered Weaver against Verlander. Here we get to see 2 amazing young pitchers against two of the absolute elite line-ups in the game. Although Verlander is about a year more progressed than Weaver, I trust the Angels line-up to outscore Detroit's. My money's on the Angels! |

I absolutely buy your theory, W.HI.P, but I think you have cause & effect switched.
It's not that the games are rigged to end in the way that will be most profitable for the bookies. It's that the bookies know what they're doing, and thus are setting themselves up to be profitable based on what they know to be the most likely outcome (in this case, a draw.) It's not a conspiracy, it's just good business decisions. |
