The cafeteria at the steel mill I'm assigned to got flooded in the storms this morning. So the Med Director and I checked out his emergency rations - Reese's miniatures and peanut butter crackers. Then the nurse came by and shared HER emergency rations - brown rice and salmon. Men? Reese's. Women? Whole grains and salmon. That tells me something, but I don't know what.

It tells you in an emergency, women are boring. :haha:

orthodoc 07-10-2013 08:15 PM

And men are wildly impractical, even if sweet and tasty?

Oops ... I meant they go for what's tasty ... hmm. Never mind.

Impractical? For making a annoying situation fun? We're not talking about stocking a fall out shelter, and it's not like there isn't a Burger King within you'll-only-be-mildly-hungry distance.

Gosh that looks good!

I had a SlimFast because I had no appetite.
It's not slimming me down at all, but I am being a healthy Cherry.

Last week I made a roasted duck, using this recipe, which calls for boiling the duck first, then roasting it for the second half. (Duck came out amazing, by the way--I boiled it in salted water rather than chicken broth as called for in the recipe.)

After pulling the duck out of the pot and moving it into the roasting phase, I added the gizzards and organs and a couple stalks of celery to the pot and continued boiling that for the rest of the evening. I think I seasoned it with a little more salt, I can't remember.

Now, today for lunch I am having this duck broth with the last shreds of the meat I picked off the carcass after we were done eating it that night at dinner. Added a tiny bit of rosemary for fun.

OMFG it is so good. And I still have another two servings left (no more meat, though. :()

Wholewheat spaghetti with some stir in sauce and little cubes of feta cheese.

Which is also what I had last night, and two nights before that...

God bless pasta. Cheap quick and easy.

How do you make a duck into a great soul singer?

Put it in the microwave, and eventually its Bill Withers.

Clodfobble 10-26-2013 05:49 PM
