STAT = instantly, immediately, on the spot, at once. It's medical shorthand (from the root Latin word "statim") which crosses many languages.

Russian-

прямо сейчас (preeyama seychas) - right now/right away
как можно скорее (kak mozhna skahryehyeh) - as soon as possible
быстро (buystra) - quickly
немедленно (nye medlenna) - immediately
сразу же (srazu zhe) - straight away

Hope this helps.

Couple more Russian ones:

сию минуту - (siYU meeNUtu) right this minute

сейчас же - (seiCHAS zhe) right now -- zhe is an intensifier of anything

Vocalperk's transliteration is very careful, but you can say CKOPEE like "sko-rey-eh" and be well understood. Especially if you roll the R -- all Russian Rs are rolled. They aren't quite as rattly as Spanish RRs, though; pull back just a bit and you'll sound like a native.

I'm not quite sure if Spanish says ahorita for "quickly" as well as for "at this moment," but I suppose they do.

So in US military dialect it could be rendered "right fucking now". :-)

And in parent,
"or else" ;)

I need to stress that a survey on a foreign language program in our school should be returned asap.

So I want translations for "ASAP", "now', "quickly" etc. in as many languages as possible. Especially non-European ones (as I already have several of those). I'm particularly interested in the sort of colloquial phrases that might not make it into a dictionary but which all people who speak that language will understand. like "chop chop!" :lol:

please :)

Hi, I'm Zoli from Hungary. The Hungarian versions for your requests are the following (pronunciation in [brackets] ):

ASAP (=as soon as possible): Amint lehet [omint lehet] OR Amint lehetséges [omint lehetshaygesh]
now = most [mosht]
quickly = gyorsan [dyorshan]

Regards

Zoli 05-15-2006 02:32 AM

In Spanish:

ASAP = lo más pronto posible [lo 'mas 'pronto po'sible]
now = ahora [a'ora], ahorita [ao'rita], ahora mismo [a'ora mismo], ya [ya].
quickly = rápido ['rrapido], rápidamente ['rrapida´mente]

Separate translation need, I need someone who can email in Dutch to negotiate for an Image of the Day series. Anyone?
