They only run 4k primaries in Camden, Woody?

Oh... and how do they meter it?

bigw00dy 01-10-2007 05:39 AM

Since Camden is an older city, a majority of its circuits are still the old 4kv. This also includes the 'downtown' section which is an underground network. 4kv was, and sometimes still is, a more reliable voltage on shorter spans from the substation. But there are some newer as well as updated substations that produce 13kv inside of Camden. Any new pole top construction we do is built for 13kv so in the future all 4kv lines can be eliminated.

About metering it, all primary customers pay some sort of a flat rate per month. I don't know, maybe like $2000 a month. Primary customers do not pay per kwh, like a home owner would.

They must do some sort of survey estimate to set the monthly rate. Ideal setup for a bootlegger or pot grower. :D

News flash - the most dangerous city in the US is now....

St. Louis

And chickens in the street increase the value when cock fighting is the main source of entertainment in the city - ai, ai, ai, ai, aieeee!

I'm about 4 miles from Camden, as the carcass-picking vulture flies.

Imagine...slummy pictures of my hometown in an internet blog. Next time, take some pics down at the River...<sigh>This is what years of corrupt politicians will do to a city. F**k that bitch mayor...

xoxoxoBruce 01-10-2007 12:12 PM

Welcome to the Cellar, ThirdI. :D
You realize the pictures were not to show Camden, but to show the electrical transformers, right? Oh, and the chickens.

bigw00dy 01-10-2007 12:31 PM

I'm sure you can find slummy pictures of Camden all over the internet, not just in this blog. Like Bruce said, I was there for business but couldn't pass up the opportunity to take some pictures of wild chickens. Maybe with half of the NFL as thier spokespeople, Cambells Soup will become the superpower they once were and revive the city...or maybe not.

That was fascinating. I love seeing other places through the Cellar, it rocks!

Campbells won't come back.
I read a very long and complex explanation about how during the last generation change of owners, the inheritance taxes, estate taxes, yada, yada, yada, almost caused them to lose the company, so they all left the country. Moved to Ireland I think.

Also, rather than trying to sell the soup they make for American tastes, in the far flung corners, they're tailoring soups to local consumers. :smack:

Despite the cigarette butt diet, those chickens are probably better eatin' than the KFC variety. :dead:

Much of Camden has been unsavory for decades, and doesn't show any signs of near-future improvement. However, the area around City Hall is kind of cute and small-town-ish.
