These women are not trying to revive sagging careers and are coming out knowing they are going up against a hugely popular icon at great risk to their personal reputations. Again, think of how many other equally critical comedians, aren't being accused rape. George Carlin, for one was a hundred times more critical of everything than Cosby ever was on his most vitriolic day. The Catholic church could have sent their mafia to visit him and found a bunch of altar boys who were willing to testify that Carlin fiddled with them in - oh wait. Never mind. ;) |
I've read that Bill's wife and daughter still say he's a good guy. Shouldn't that be enough?
|
I can probably find it in my heart to forgive him as soon as he confesses and apologizes to all the women and also to society as a whole, and shows some remorse.
|
Is that really necessary? They were groupies who allowed themselves to be alone with him knowing he was a married man (to the same woman since '64). They weren't respecting proper boundaries.
|
Excuse me?
I know nothing about this, I have to admit. And have too little interest to research it. But I worked with married men, and have worked with men who wielded a reasonable of power in their given field (nothing like as much as Bill Cosby of course). If these women were willing partners, knowing they were with a married and committed man then that's their choice. Good, bad, indifferent - depending on your morality it was their choice. But the inference here - and again I'm only going on what I read here - is that they were coerced by power and authority. And for a man to suck in his cheeks and shake his head about other men's behaviour whilst effectively acting like a pimp with a crack whore (ie ownership of someone of someone perceived as a lower social strata) is nastily misogynistic behaviour. Apologies if I have this all wrong. It just sounds too much like recent sex scandals here where men of (even less) genuine power abused those they knew they could. And I found/ still find that revolting. |
The interesting thing about groupies is ...
Some of them want to abuse you. Some of them want to be abused. Which is all fine and dandy; until, later when they change their minds. Then events get rewritten. |
It's weird.
I always thought that was 11 year old girls. |
Speaking from experience, there are adult female hetero groupies who prefer married men. They figure married men will want to protect their own reputations; therefore, they won't disclose their groupies and everyone's alternative lifestyles will remain discreet. The men won't be labeled adulterers and the women won't be labeled whores.
Two major threats to such groupie relationships are that they will be unintentionally disclosed and that expectations within the inherently temporary relationship will change resulting in deliberate disclosure. Both can set the people involved against each other ... to protect reputations, further agendas, and/or exact revenge ... for life. I've even seen an adult groupie, who had been others' groupie before and was into it just for the sex, fall in love with the latest married man she was with and want a permanent relationship. When he reminded her the relationship was temporary, she threatened to contact his family and go public to ruin his career. For people like that, the end justifies any means. The same can happen over expectations of fame and fortune. There's no statute of limitations on revenge or the number of people one can piss off to that point. |

It also smelled a little off when he asked the non-white media for slack. That was just weird. |
I think all these people coming out of the closet lately, across the world, about long ago wrongs are because people feel that it is safer to come out about the events now that others have blazed the trail. Sort of like the 4 minute mile and duck jibes on windsurfers. No one could do it until someone did it then everyone is doing it.
It seems he had a pretty consistent M.O. |
Yeah, there's a difference between "we slept together and it may or may not have been consensual" vs. "he drugged me in this specific way." Honestly, he probably could have made the whole thing go away if he'd said, "Yes, we took drugs because everyone took drugs in the 80s, I didn't just slip them secretly into anyone's drink, we were all high and fucking each other because that's what celebrities do."
|
When I'm obscenely rich and famous and high and fucking everybody, I want you to be my PR manager/Damage Control point person.
|
For 10% of your obscenely rich residuals, I'll do it.

Well, I've found a driver and that's a start...
