I thought everyone, including and especially dave, would get a kick out of it. Apparently not.

Personally, I don't have a problem with multiple accounts. I think the post content is primary. I admit sometimes I'm biased by who made the post and I'm not sure that's a good thing. If I'm not familiar with the poster, then I'm forced to examine the content more carefully. Also, if the poster isn't known to the community they have to be sure their post is clear and complete.

I only became annoyed at the Cuddles thread from today, otherwise I think the dupes are pretty funny. Obviously, you don't want to overdo it.

I really like Kofi, too.

Actually, I have two accounts--this one, and Dave. Oh, and that third one. I'm a very busy poster around here.

Slang, it's cool. Venison will be accepted as a peace offering.

When something is done for extreme comedic effect, I dig it majorly.

(i.e., Rush, God, Kofi, and the rest of the Gang)

When an established participant adds an ID solely to make themselves look better (or appear to have a defender) in an argument, that I'm not down with. One of the cool things about the Cellar is that you swim or you sink on your own merits. Sometimes both within the same thread. ;)

I had assumed it was LUVBUGZ.

Let me expose my techinical ignorance for a moment. If there was a lockdown on multiple logins it would be done by one name per email address?
Now I'm in agreement with Dave that things have gone to far with these, but the offences that really bug us could be easily continued using a different email account. At the same time we'd lose some humor from the Slang Gang. Sounds lose-lose to me.
Are these our only options? Any possible better solutions? (Assuming I understand how the lockdown would work)
By the by, this is my only login. Also, that last post was cold, yet amusing Wolf.

I really don't see how you could prevent it.

It's sort of like people online being dicks. Sure, it's annoying. I hate it. What the hell ever happened to common courtesy? But what in the fuck are you gonna do about it? Absolutely nothing.

Beestie 11-14-2003 07:04 AM

After giving the matter some thought (overnight), I have decided it is best if I disclose that I am the poster who created the "Fucking Retard" account.

I seriously thought it would be funny and did not "hide" under an alternate email - I used the same one as for this account. The point wasn't to create a true alias but just to poke some harmless fun. I had seen the term used so often I thought it would be cool if there really WAS such a poster :)

A big reason I am stepping forward is because I noticed that the bogus account was attributed to others with the presumption of an agenda attached to the suspicion. Out of fairness to the accused, I did not want those suspicions (both posted and unposted) to fester.

There is no such thing as "starting over" so I guess we'll just have to go from here in the event anyone feels they were treated unfairly.

I don't.:)

slang 11-15-2003 08:31 PM

Guess where I am, and what I'm doing?

Beestie 11-15-2003 08:52 PM

Does it involve a copy of Redbook?

:)
