Oh yay. I haven't unlimbered my pedantic muscles in a long time.

"Cybortion"? That's funny, but its more like a process-prophylactic since it prevents something from starting instead of ending something already begun.

While we're on the subject of funny usage, why are y'all getting exercised about "kill" being inappropriate for describing the stopping, but no eyelash is batted when "execute" is used to describe go, run, activate?

NoScript provides extra protection for your Mozilla Firefox browser: this extension allows JavaScript execution only for trusted domains of your choice (e.g. your home-banking web site).

This whitelist based pre-emptive script blocking approach prevents exploitation of security vulnerabilities (known and even not known yet!) with no loss of functionality...

You can enable JavaScript execution for sites you trust with a simple left-click on the NoScript status bar icon (look at the picture), or using the contextual menu, for easier operation in popup statusbar-less dialog.

Staying safe has never been so easy!. Experts will agree: Firefox is really safer with NoScript :-)
(bold mine) ...yeah. Pro(cess)phylactic.

Spammers and poor grammar both push my buttons. :) I've been thinking about the first, and I think that it's because I am inexplicably terrified that this board will somehow become overrun with people like this and I will have the most awesome place on the internet taken away from me. I know that UT would never let that happen, but I'm still rabid about protecting it. :vikingsmi

That's why this place is so cool.

Except for some very rare exceptions (and the Invasion of the Intelligence Snatchers (released in the UK as TINPeople) ... it's self-correcting.

BLB, you'd get a better response if you didn't belittle people (any sense) before evangelising a possibly good thing. The "literally killer" phrase is also annoying; I didn't think you meant literally "kill -9 29323", but it evokes the idea that someone died from executing (re:earlier post) javascript.

It seems that whitelisting javascript publishers would work pretty well, at least in the short term. Eventually, web site publishers would have to switch to serving ads from third party ad networks on the publisher's own whitelisted URLs.

A popular extension for FireFox is AdBlock, which allows the reader to black list URLs with regular expression patterns. AdBlock works very well once you have a decent black list.

The company I work for is one of the largest ad networks on the Internet. We serve over 9 Billion impressions per month. In a face near you. :muse:

To contiue the thread hijacking, I stumbled on this beauty yesterday:

tetrahedrotransmogrispinnify: To spin round faster than the speed of light.
Example: The ball spun round really fast. I thought it would tetrahedrotransmogrispinnify.

Personally, I don't know how I got along without using StumbleUpon.

I forget who introduced me to this surfing tool, but now I can waste hours and hours surfing sites I would never have found otherwise. On one memorable occasion, I only stopped because I noticed the sun coming up and realized that I had forgotten to sleep!

a POX on your head, whoever you are! :D

HP's post was before mine, but I promise mine was an independent discovery. So, there is a chance I am guilty as well.

Wow.. you have so many issues. Take a metaphor and don't call me in the morning.

And not hemipygian either. Unlike that Hubbardism "enturbulate."

Wolf...what does it do? There is a deplorable lack of description.

wolf 09-24-2005 11:02 AM

The Bene Geserrit prayer. Whenever you need it. Pops up on your desktop in a window. You click "ok" when you're done.
