He's probably in recovery by now, all hopped up on painkillers. I can hear Brianna now:

"I sense a disturbance in the force..."

Trilby 11-14-2011 09:22 AM

and here I am now!

It's spooky how that works.

You should lock your door when you sleep. At least until your son moves out.

Just sayin.

Spexxvet 11-15-2011 08:57 AM

I found that typing was not as difficult as using the mouse.

infinite monkey 11-15-2011 09:03 AM

That's 'cause you people use stupid mice.

Trackball trackball trackball.

HungLikeJesus 11-15-2011 09:19 AM

Maybe he could use Dragon Naturally Speaking.

zippyt 11-15-2011 02:29 PM

Trilby 11-15-2011 02:38 PM

zippy - despite what you may have heard do NOT crush your vics up and snort them.

It'll burn the hell outta your nose.

glad you're doing well, zip! :) Here's a flower :flower: to get well on.

monster 11-15-2011 03:31 PM

Is Carol wearing a sexy nurse uniform?

Glad it's all good so far...

zippyt 11-15-2011 06:00 PM

Carol is a Sexy nurse uniform or Not ( preferably )

footfootfoot 11-15-2011 10:01 PM

Disc is burned and shipping in the am. 162 hours worth!

Spexxvet 11-16-2011 07:56 AM

Good to hear, Zip.

zippyt 11-21-2011 09:53 PM

Ok so Doc said i only had about 3mm tear , and he would have had to mess it up worse to fix it than it was, so he left it alone
But he removed bone spurs and the tip of my clavicle or collar bone,
so i have raw bone on bone or sum such ,
all i know is that its Sore and Stiff ,
Fuck the Hard Pain meds , they Mess me up for a few days per pill ,
so on Docs orders im ditching the useless ass sling ,
signed up for PT this afternoon , and im going to hurt for a while
WAAAAAAAA !!!

Lamplighter 11-21-2011 10:55 PM

It's easy to take a pill every day, and to stay with PT is hard. But it works.
So stay with it and make it part of your everyday routine. It works.
Find a way to reward yourself when you don't miss a day. It works.

Griff 11-22-2011 05:26 AM

Grind it out zip!

3 millimeters?
You pussy. Give me back my advice. I had a 3.5 centimeter tear!

Seriously, that is seriously ass good news zippy. Those tendons don't have much blood supply so they heal really slowly. The grind-out is awesome because it keeps the bone from digging into the tendon when you raise your arm.

You should be feeling better very soon. PT is great especially if you have a dishy PT gal.

The pain meds suck. I stopped them after a few days. IT will take a few weeks for your head to clear from the surgery aenaesthaesiae too.

zippyt 11-28-2011 12:22 PM

yeah, well, if it's hurting your shoulder like there's no tomorrow, you're doing it wrong.

footfootfoot 12-07-2011 12:32 PM

I have a Manipulation(they put me to sleep and MAKE this Fucker Move ( with the associated Cracking and popping noises )) tentatively scheduled for Tuesday ,
Yeee FUCKING HAAAW !!!

glatt 01-19-2012 12:41 PM

It would be cool if you could give Carol or somebody a video camera to record the process and accompanying sounds. I bet they won't allow it though.

Hopefully when the drugs wear off afterwards, it won't be too sore.

infinite monkey 01-19-2012 12:44 PM

I'd be happy to be put under for that procedure. I bet the noises are horrid. Of course, when the doc set my compound fracture in my wrist, I don't remember the noise, or anything...since I was in la la morphine land.

Good luck, dude.

zippyt 01-24-2012 01:39 PM

Modern medicine! Better than biting the wooden spoon.

Griff 01-24-2012 04:21 PM

In my day we didn't have fancy shoulders our arms came right out of our ears and we liked them that way.

Four tries for the IV?

I guess that's why it's called an IV.

Pete Zicato 01-24-2012 08:38 PM

I can beat that. For my last Remicaid infusion, they successfully started the IV four times. And each time, my vein blew out. I've been on steroids for over a year now and steroids weaken your veins.

When you start comparing injuries and illnesses you know you're getting old.

Griff 01-26-2012 05:06 PM

Full movement!

Clodfobble 04-19-2012 11:08 AM

Mr. Clod's shoulder has been hurting for about 6 months. It finally got bad enough to see an orthopedist. They say he has "only a small spur," and a 30-day course of anti-inflammatories should fix it.

He's on day 5, and still no change in pain whatsoever. Right now, I'm putting my money on surgery, oh, say about a year from now.

And the process drags on. Multiple anti-inflammatories had no effect, nor did shots of cortisol, and finally Mr. Clod managed to get back to the doctor and get an MRI. Diagnosis: "moderate sized longitudinal partial tear of the superior subscapularis tendon." Whee!

He's been referred to a surgeon. Maybe they'll say he should just put it in a sling for a few months, but I kind of doubt it.

Griff 11-05-2012 08:24 PM

So I sit down to read the cellar with a microwave heat pad on my shoulder and guess which thread is active...

Clodfobble 11-05-2012 08:49 PM

Is this the same shoulder you already had surgery on? Are you saying he shouldn't do it because it's not going to stop the pain anyway?

Griff 11-05-2012 08:55 PM

I think Footy had the surgery. Mines been okay with exercise and anti-inflammatories. This new pot regimen looks interesting...

Clodfobble 11-05-2012 09:03 PM

Yeah, foot and zippyt and I thought one other person... Glad yours is staying under control, though. I'm actually pretty leery of shoulder surgery for him now, thanks to the horror stories on here.

footfootfoot 11-10-2012 09:04 PM

There is nothing horrible after you get better. I was never in pain after the surgery as long as I behaved. It has been 2 years nearly and it is awesome. I really want to get the other one done but not with things the way they are at home.

I can do things with my arm now and I'm not in pain with that arm. I often find myself holding back when lifting or some such motion and then I realize it doesn't hurt and I go a bit farther and no pain and I realize I am actually stronger in that arm than I used to be.

I totally recommend it. The anal probe, not so much.

Clodfobble 11-11-2012 04:30 PM

Surgeon says it's not severe enough to do surgery on right now. So he can cripple his arm in a sling indefinitely, and see if it heals on its own, or he can just keep living in pain and wait until it gets bad enough to do surgery. He's pretty pissed at that non-answer.

footfootfoot 11-11-2012 05:26 PM

You may need a different PCP or Surgeon.

Moderate is meaningless, how many cm? Even that isn't fool proof, Mine was only supposed to be something like 2cm partial tear from the MRI, when the doc got in there via arthro, he saw that it was essentially fully torn with only a tiny shred of tissue connected and a lot of scar tissue. What he thought would be 45 minutes was almost three hours.

Mr. C should go to his doc and say, "Listen. I'm in pain and every time I need to do X it hurts. And when I do Y, it hurts. And if I do Z, it hurts." Never say, "I can't do such and such." Say that you can, but emphasize that it fucking hurts.

Problem with RC injuries is the longer you wait to deal with them the chances of full recovery diminish.

Shoulders are a crazy ass solution to an engineering problem and there's not much to do to improve their architecture. PT 3x a week and at home might help strengthen and stabilize the shoulder but those tendons don't re-attach themselves.

Shoulders. Ask for them by name.

I HATE passive doctors! If I wanted to 'wait and see' I wouldn't need a doctor to tell me to do it!

I go to Cincinnati for aggressive docs. All the docs up here want to 'wait and see' until your cancer is growing out of your fookin' ears or if your arm does, indeed, grow back.

sheesh.
