We explored the canyon, finding, to our delight that there were Hot Springs in a couple of places. One pool in particular, was perfect bath temperature, 3 feet deep along the cliff that bordered one side, with a white sand bottom. Like it was made specifically for people to enjoy. We went skinny dipping with 6 or seven other people as soon as we found it. There was a girl who would climb the face of the cliff, and fall back into the water. Nekked.
look what jinx found on the internet!

the best mexican food i ever had was in Kansas...that town where all the cowboys are buried.......

That would either be Dodge City (Boot Hill... Boot Hill... so cold... so still) or Coffeyville where the Dalton Gang met their demise.

BTW - Before gettin' out of Dodge, stop and check out the great Vietnamese restaurants.:)

lumberjim 04-15-2004 02:00 PM

yup..dodge city...thanks....the mex rest was a hacienda on the western edge of town. excellent to outstanding

I keep coming back to this thread hoping there is more...
Beggars can't be choosers, and lurkers certainly ought to stay in the shadows :>

I have more stories from the tours before this one, and a couple of rainbow gatherings jinx went to . I've been trying to get her to post her side of the story.

maybe if we did like they did on peter pan, and everyone claps their hands, and says they believe in tinkerbell...i mean jinx...she'll cave in.

i also wanted to get some of my pictures scanned and posted.

edit: cleaned up multiple spelling errors

I found these photos the other day while cleaning out my photo box. This first gives you a good idea of just how big those umbrellas were.

lumberjim 04-22-2004 07:21 PM

IS THAT YOU?

SAY NO.

DAMN IM OLD

and this one shows how many were on one mountain side. They were on both sides of the freeway and so while you can see 45 of so umbrellas in this photo, that was only a small fraction of them.

Who are you asking about? The adults or the children in the photo?

jinx 04-22-2004 07:26 PM

No. You should tell the one about going across the country on a Harley (some of the time). We have more pictures of that.

lumberjim 04-22-2004 07:41 PM

shouldn't that be a Whale Penis Award?

Brigliadore 04-22-2004 07:42 PM

if it was a Whale Penis Award then I bet Stacy would win.

EDIT: Fixed grammar mistake

lumberjim 04-22-2004 07:47 PM

that's pretty cool when you think about it.

jinx and I were right near you. they were only up for a little while, right? I might have been driving by looking at the very umbrella you were standing under. in my silly hippie clothes smoking a hand rolled cigarette and listening to bob marley in the chevette.

Brigliadore 04-22-2004 07:53 PM

I think they were only up for like 2 weeks or something like that. I remember my mom saying we needed to go see them on a certain weekend or else they would be gone. I could be wrong about how long they were up, but regardless of the time, it wasn't very long.
Like I said before, its pretty fucking cool that you got to see them as well.

EDIT: According to the website you linked to on page 3, they were only up for 3 weeks. I cant believe putting those huge things up only to take them down 3 weeks later.

Just saw the Dead last night at the [Corporate Name] Pavilion outside DC.

It was a lot of fun. They sounded good. The new guy, Warren, is a great addition to the band. His voice sounds quite a bit like Jerry's, and he's a better singer than Weir. This is only my 4th show, I knew about half of the songs they played, and a lot of them were covers.
The highlight for me was Casey Jones at the end of the first set. They really did a good job before going off to take their break. Today, we actually ordered the recording of the show from their webpage primarily just for that song. I hope it sounds as good at home as it did in person.

The vibe is still very much the same as the shows I saw 10+ years ago. There are still a lot of young people following them, but for the most part, the the fans are aging. Lots of babies and toddlers in tow. I'm sure lots more were at home, like ours, with sitters. The average age of the fans was probably about 35-40. There were some old geezers there though.

I hadn't smelled pot in a while. It smelled kind of good.

We got home at about midnight, and both took some tylenol for our aching knees. Too much dancing in place on concrete for these old (37 y.o.) folks!

No disrespect, dude. None. But I never, ever figured you for a Dead Head. Ever.

glatt 08-20-2004 02:03 PM

What can I say? I'm a mystery.

Trilby 08-20-2004 02:05 PM

You yelled at me for freaking and posting too much--well, not yelled exactly, but...you were sort of...dude, you were corporate!
Harsh!

glatt 08-20-2004 02:43 PM

Well, sorry about that. My comment was obviously harsher than I realized, if you remember it so long afterwards.

Those posts you made your first day are long gone now, but there were a ton of them, from what I recall. Sometimes a newcomer needs a little feedback to ease into a comfortable spot in the Cellar. You seem to have found your niche.

Your point was taken! I like it here! thanks for being indulgent!

Rainbow Gathering? Weird, I didn't expect to read about that here, from lumberjim. My first Rainbow was the 20th anniversary in Colorado. What a life-changing experience that was, a total immersion into a culture with a truly different perspective on things. So many great stories about that.

jinx 01-16-2008 08:53 PM

Welcome home bro.

Flint 01-16-2008 08:54 PM

Fuckin' hippies.

classicman 01-16-2008 08:57 PM

Present and accounted for, sir Flint!

Flint 01-16-2008 08:58 PM

I thought I smelled patchouli...

classicman 01-17-2008 07:29 AM

The smell of that still brings back many memories. Some I didn't remember the first time. Those are the best ones.

Flint 01-17-2008 08:31 AM

Right on, man. Sandalwood does that for me, too.

Scents are actually the most specific, and arguably most powerful, memories, because of the way the olfactory mechanism works. It's specific molecules bonding with specific receptors, as opposed to the synthesis of inputs other senses take in and sort of form a vague impression of. Like sight, which is so contrived that "optical illusions" are a dime a dozen.

Our brain holds a "dictionary" of scents which are invoked by specific substances. It is theorized that this "dictionary" system gave rise to our language. There are some interesting parallels there. Most anecdotally, consider that we have a special category of "forbidden" words which refer to things with a strong odor, like various human secretions.

lumberjim 04-16-2008 01:05 AM

I would do it all again.

lumberjim 07-09-2015 04:05 PM

maybe with a different co-pilot

xoxoxoBruce 07-09-2015 04:47 PM

Love the one you're with.
