Cicero 02-06-2008 03:58 PM

Pollution...is that what you would call it? I call it awesome.

Now remind me, where's your RFN photo?
:right:

Shawnee123 02-07-2008 07:11 PM

Can't do it. Screws up my Witness Protection Program.

(Yes, here late at work...on my way out!)

monster 02-07-2008 07:37 PM

Have we seen any pics taken on the super dooper new cam that aren't of your cats? I do believe you owe us a RFN, a house tour and probably a zillion others. Wear a fake mustache.

use the fake mustache as a merkin, if the witness protection program extends that far ..... ;)

Shawnee123 02-08-2008 07:37 AM

Ahhhh, I knew there would be owing involved.

Guys, i'm gonna be honest. I've tried to take pictures and just end up depressed. I guess I'm vain with no self-esteem, if that is somehow possible...because I can't stand pictures of me. To the point of tears, sometimes. Stupid, probably. I'm working on it.

monster 02-08-2008 07:55 AM

I hear ya. I want to show off my hair which is awesome right now, but I can't do the whole posed picture thing and it looks crappy or isn't visible in the few incidental ones.

Actually, my hair was at it's awesomest yesterday, but then I swam and now it's a tiny bit green around the gills.... and have I mentioned how much I hate the swim cap? ugh I feel like a right twonk in it, but recently the pool has been bleaching the color right out, so I've had to start wearing it.

lumberjim 02-08-2008 08:36 AM

i wear a swim cap, goggles and swim fins. oh, and flippers.....and a nose clip.

what?

LabRat 02-08-2008 09:06 AM

I use a swim cap (long hair) and goggles and have flippers, pullbuoy, and board. I guarantee no one looks as goofy as I do with a grapefruit sized wad of hair in a bun in the back of my swim cap.

waidaminnut. Jinx has a ton of hair...what does she do when she swims?? Although, even if she does the bun thing, I'd still win the geeky looking contest, cuz I don't fill out the rest of my suit as nicely as she does ;)

Edited to add this pic of my kid taken this summer on vacation. What a ham...

jinx 02-08-2008 07:41 PM

I do the big bun thing but no swim cap. I dont want to look like a dork, but more importantly they alway pull my hair and just hurt the whole time.
I dont swim so much as I do some cardio in the water, trying not to get my hair wet. Today I used a noodle and swam against the current created by the waterslide. Like the endless pool thing....

Are you kidding? Haven't you seen Drax's photo :yeldead: ?!? What are you worried about?

Oh wait...He hasn't posted one yet.
Nevermind.
:p

Cheap...I know....:headshake

Aliantha 02-09-2008 01:32 AM

Don't you lot have those lycra swim caps? They don't pull at all. Very comfortable actually if you ask me.

monster 02-09-2008 09:59 AM

I understand they don't protect from the chlorine as well.

Don't you have salt water pools?

monster 02-09-2008 01:39 PM

No.

monster 02-09-2008 01:40 PM

Apparently there's a new pool at the local college that uses some other chemical system, but it's been closed more than open due to chemical imbalances  And stinks.

lookout123 02-09-2008 01:44 PM

our home pool is salt water and i love it. not once in more 5 years has it been out of whack.

The gyms down here seem to be switching over too. It really is awesome, doesn't dry your skin out, burn the eyes, or leave you smelling like chlorine.

lumberjim 02-09-2008 02:27 PM

just watch out for the sharks

Clodfobble 02-09-2008 02:29 PM

We have three pools locally, and the second one just switched to salt water last summer. I love it! I was skeptical, thinking it would be like ocean water, but it's more like saline solution for contact lenses. No eye burning at all. I still have to rinse off in the shower to get my skin feeling normal, but I have to do that with chlorinated pools too. I hear they're cheaper in the long run, too. Maybe you should petition your pool to switch over, monster...

monster 02-09-2008 04:55 PM

hmmmm good idea. I hate chlorine

Ahh, that makes sense then. I wasn't crazy about the swim cap at first, but I guess I've gotten used to it. I need it when I an actually doing laps, but refuse to use it any other time...

Swimming today! Woo Hoooo!!

lumberjim 02-11-2008 09:30 AM

we got in the pool yesterday just in time for some fucking jerk kid to puke in it, and get everyone kicked out. the other pool was crowded, so we only spent like 5 or 10 minutes in it before we got fed up and bailed. damn weiner kids.

Me too. When we bought a new hot tub last year we switched to Bromine. More friendly.

That is excellent! surly nate is not sorry about surly nate's fingers.

HungLikeJesus 03-07-2008 01:30 PM

I am completely mystified by surly nate's picture.

By the way, that looks like a cool house, sn. Was it built in the 1930s?

surly_nate 03-07-2008 01:35 PM

muhahahahahahaaaa! gawd bless photoshop and square sections of images that are easy to cut and paste lol.

this is one of those older house/duplex things behind the "big house" in good ol' Austin Tx. Hyde Park to be exact. There are lots of cool lil' places in my section of town, and many of the places are under renovation raising rent prices all around. yayyyy!

glatt 03-07-2008 01:56 PM

Cool picture. My eye was drawn to the "tile" on the wall in back. Are those just grout lines marked into plaster, or are they real ceramic tiles? There's a funny little squiggle in one grout line that makes these 'tiles' look fake.

Shawnee123 03-07-2008 02:03 PM

That built-in cabinet reminds me of my old apartment, the third floor in a house built in 1880-something. It was actually 4 flights up (due to the high ceilings on floors 1 and 2), but it was a neat old place, balcony with pillars off the kitchen, big claw-foot tub. Love those old houses.

yuppers, it is some sort of fake tile goin' on there. i dunno' why there is some grout there either... must be covering up some cracks in the vynil or plastic.

i love the wood flooring in the place too. it makes it easy for cleaning up and it is fun to watch the cat trying to get traction when she has her spazz kitty moments. :3eye:

Cicero 03-07-2008 03:29 PM

lol!! I just like the look of utter disgust, contrasted with the self-satisfied double bird...Well played Nate...and welcome!

So Nate...What is the "axe effect"? Is it a good thing or wha.......

LabRat 03-07-2008 03:56 PM

Awesome intro, nate!! Nice work!

lumberjim 03-07-2008 07:20 PM
