I am happy because yesterday my friends helped me do a bunch of rearranging and painting, and now my bookshelves are in my o ffice where they belong and my daughter's room is 90% done and will be ready to move her bed into on Thursday. :) This means she will no longer be sleeping in the large room upstairs that you have to go through to get to my bedroom, yay!

It's starting to look almost certain that my best friend will get the job she applied for here. Her office will be right next to mine! This place will never be quite the same. ;)

Oh, and we MIGHT be back in our offices this afternoon. Three weeks after the flood. Better almost never than never.

Yeah!!!!

I'm not sure if that qualifies you, Lab!

But congrats on the diagnosis... :)

That's hard to believe with the work you do, but it does explain your penchant for abusing your body over hill and dale. :haha:

Day 8 of being back on my old BC pills/off the new ones my gyno wanted me to try, and I've lost 3 lbs. I wasn't getting fat, just bloated, apparently. Yay.

The housemate got a job... the weather's starting to be a little less rainy (relatively speaking)... my daughter slept through the night... my husband is communicating rather than yelling and posturing... yup. I have a big happy. Could use some company though... talking to myself isn't all that much fun! (Baby Girl is over at a friend's house for a few hours for playtime)

I have just given the kiddies their homework.

They are doing a 5 week survey project, where they design a sociological hypothesis, formulate questions to test it, do the survey, then analyse and present their data.

This was a mid-way check. On pair of students had a problem with their stats, that they didn't have enough poor-performing students in their study. After some discussion I realised there is one surefire place to find sub-par students on a Friday afternoon, and directed my (over 18) kiddies accordingly... to the campus bar.

Others needed to inteview more international students who might have part time jobs, so they got sent to the central market and restaurant district.

Another group needed more "general population" respondents, so I just sent them down to the beach.

I kinda like this job. :D

What subjects are you teaching Zen?

ZenGum 03-12-2009 11:23 PM

Just Critical Thinking, as part of a Uni prep/entrance course. Effectively the last year of high school.

Aliantha 03-12-2009 11:28 PM

Ahh...so that's why they're kiddies.

ZenGum 03-12-2009 11:31 PM

Well, there are a couple that are 17 and the rest are 18 or 19 (and a few 21, 23 etc).

These are international students, some of whom have failed to get into uni in their own countries, and others just aimed for an international uni from the start.

I call them kiddies becaue (a) they are half my age, (b) some totally don't have a #$%&ing clue, and (c) it helps keep my expectations of their abilities from rising too high.

Aliantha 03-12-2009 11:33 PM

Those are all very valid reasons. Do you like teaching the course though?

ZenGum 03-13-2009 12:04 AM

Yeah it is mostly good. The only thing that bugs me is marking their work. Some is quite good, some is incomprehensible gibberish, and some is plagiarised from either wikipedia or the textbook. That is annoying. Otherwise, it is a good job, and quite well paying. And I am there now, net surfing. Life is good.
