Aw, look. I'm not suggesting you're a slacker. But seriously, you can't see that

The term attached to the notion that the Earth’s temperature is increasing due to the greenhouse effect.
is a completely useless statement? You will fail your paper if you present that as the conservative position on global warming. The greenhouse effect is a direct synonym for global warming. I'm guessing you got that definition from someone on another messageboard, which is why it's not a good idea to research your papers on messageboards.

Here's a hint: your teacher is looking for you to talk about the different ideas that liberals and conservatives have about what is causing global warming.

deathlysilence 09-24-2008 08:12 PM

I have already discussed the causes... i just needed a short addition to generalize a conservative definition, then i elaborated.

Did you at least mention the CO2 emitted from things such as air conditioners and the like? That might have a lil something to do with what you are talking about.

classicman 09-24-2008 10:35 PM

Jim - eh hem JIM! you effin slacker - How is it that you didn't submit a quiz to deathlysilent(ce) C'mon man, vacation is OVAHHHHHHH!

Global warming is an observed phenomenon.

The causes are being debated.
One camp says it's man made.
One camp says it's a natural phenomenon..
One camp says it natural but man is accelerating it.

The end effect is being debated.
One camp predicts terrible consequences.
One camp predicts changes, but not disastrous effects.

What we can do about it is being debated.
One camp says we must act decisively and swiftly to avoid disaster.
One camp says it's too late, the die is cast.
One camp says we can only affect the outcome slightly.

If you label any of the aforementioned camps, as conservative or liberal... you fail.

Excellent xob! Now do the same for that global cooling issue we were having in the 70's.

Well, the Original Farmer's Almanac, not to be confused with that upstart Farmer's Almanac that came along in 1815ish, still believes we're entering a cooling cycle. It remains to be seen if man can temper that with our contributions.

Is this about climate change or the financial crisis?

Yup,Mentioned about the CO2 emissions! I used vehicles as an example. I gave the dictionary definition of global warming, a conservative definition, a liberal definition, my opinion, and I am planning to conclude by asking the reader what meaning they attach to global warming. Encouraging them to search out what they think it means. Because everyone views it a bit differently! Oh and the Miss DQ commits; laugh it up fuzzballs!

classicman 09-25-2008 06:45 PM

I would love to read what your two definitions are. Please post them.

jinx 09-25-2008 06:51 PM

Did you discuss the warming trends on Mars, Jupiter, Pluto, Triton etc.. or do they not fit the 'global' definition?

I saw a show the other night about how some people are proposing to build a human base on mars, and releasing a shitload of freon and methane, to see if Mars can develop an atmosphere similar to Earth.

Are you apologising because you didn't give her the proper information?

Ms Deathlysilence - I know a board you can ask this question on. They're a diverse bunch, but in general well disposed and intelligent people. Very intelligent for the most part. If you explain what you want and why you want it - and it would help if you explained I'd referred you - they are likely to give you a good deal of help. Warning - they don't suffer fools gladly, and can sometimes be cutting. Shrug it off and you might find you get more than the answers you need - you might even find board that is interested in your opinions and whose opinions interest you in return.
For the record I had no issue with DS's post - I didn't reply because I can in no way call myself a conservative. I do have an issue with the fact she's telling people to fuck off within a few posts though. It's the old tavern analogy again - I'm sorry she came into my favourite space and told people I like to fuck off.
