You're not in disguise now.

My girl friend went through symptoms much like yours, LJ. She'd get paranoid if she smoked weed (didn't smoke it often though - the symptoms made her smoke it even less), and she'd get episodes where she felt that she literally couldn't breathe. Once I took her down to the ER it was so bad, and they came up with zilch. She was going through a very stressful time - her defense of her doctoral thesis was coming up and she and her grad advisor were really at odds over one segment of her paper. She reached the point where she was coming home and belting down a couple of shots of Cuervo every night, just to feel like she was breathing normally again.

Long story short, a doctor finally figured out she was hypoglycemic and she cut way back on sugar and caffeine. She also learned some simple breathing/relaxation techniques, and ultimately passed her oral defense with flying colors. She says her symptoms now have almost completely vanished.

So could be stress and a bit too much of them funny lookin' cigarettes and too many snickers bars. Simple as that.

I wouldn't fool around though if your symptoms continue. Find a really good doc and do the full array of tests just to make sure.

Not so much a "blocking" as a "banning" which you are encouraged to discuss in some other thread.

elSicomoro 01-31-2005 09:17 PM

No, that's alright. I don't see anything worthwhile coming out of such a discussion, especially if it involves you.

I've seen purported statistics about Doctors hurting their patients but I wonder how many people hurt themselves by not going to Doctors? You know, self or family/ peer group diagnosis?

bruce, that's one of the fears that has nagged at me. yet, this last week, i've felt purty good. even though work was brutal ( worked 72 hours last week) and stress was high. I think elspode may have touched on a possible cause. I think i might have overeaten to the point where i stretched something in my upper gastro thingy. and then, after that night where i scared myself half to death, i was hypersensitive to every little twinge or discomfort. UT helped a lot with his experience. my heart feels fine. and i'm not focused on my chest 24 hours a day lately, so.......while i'm still watching caffeine, and i think i may be having issues with wheat, i feel ok.

i have type O- blood, and i remember reading that wheat in excess can cause ulcers and bad indegestion. I think i was just cuckoo.

PS, sycamore, you're a bitch.

Have you not been to a doctor about this outside the emergency room? ER doctors are great for taking care of ... you know. Emergencies.

Doctors are your Friend. Go talk to one. Please?

d00d. It's your insides. Make sure they're working right. Digestive, coronarial (<- is that a word?), phychological. Be good to yourself. K? K?!?

It's closer than "Phychological". Does that have something to do with your credit rating? I thought you were out of the finance end, jimbo? ;)

elf 02-02-2005 12:19 PM

Pfeh. I used to know both how to type and to spell. *sigh* owell.

wolf 02-02-2005 12:52 PM

Just wait until you make a minor grammatical error.

It's been a while since the grammar nazi paid us a serious visit.

I couldn't help but notice your posting in the atkins thread. Did you all of sudden stop doing the atkins and then you developed these problems?
That seems like a blood sugar thing. Maybe your body's flipping out because it got used to not having sugars, then you ate a sub with a white flour, high glycemic index bun and your body was like "WTF??" just a thought...

Just wanted to chime in with an opinion. I keep seeing people mention blood sugars. As a type 2 diabetic for the last 12 years, and dealing with kidney failure, make sure that the sugar issue is properly DIAGNOSED and not a guess. I say that, because if you are indeed dealing with hyper or hypo glycemic levels, that would require a doctor's consult, just in case you need meds or something. Not something to leave up to a guess/self diagnoses.

Good luck in seeking the answers you require.
