I just... remembered my password. :D
|
Cool... Are you still mad, man?
|
I've mellowed out over the decades. :)
|
I hope it was natural chilling and not being beaten down. ;)
|
I just want my Mum back. :(
|
Oh honey *hugs* . Bad day?
|
And it's only just begun. Hopefully things will improve. :)
|
I hope so! Be easy on yourself m'dear - and remember, however the day turns out it only gets one trip round and then it has to fuck off and let a new one in.
|
Yes...just a lot of stuff going on. It will get better I'm sure. :)
|
Flash the Mailman(postal person), that will make you giggle. ;)

Amongst the creatures that were rescued were a Coyote and a Cooper's Hawk which had become stuck in an ice hockey arena. (It didn't start a fight ). The Deer in Richmond Park seem to thrive despite all manner of urban intrusions into their lives. Here's one such instance: |

Yeah, madman is right. Things do go back to normal. My mum has been gone for 11yrs now. Just every now and then i wish she were here still so she could meet my little kids and love them like she loved my big kids. My aunty does her best to take her place, and she even looks like my Mum, but its not quite the same. I will be devastated when she goes though.

Remember mah pokah scootah?
I just...bought a non-runner for parts. They're practically identical. Believe it, or not, $20. And no actual cash out of hand. We worked out a trade.:D Attachment 49376 I'd been having trouble cranking the original scooter, Scootio (thanx to some Dwellar for that!), and it didn't want to run right much past 25mph. Finally got to where it just wouldn't crank w/out starting fluid, and then just plain wouldn't crank at all. A new spark plug didn't change things. Then, after I'd tried once again to crank it, Popdigr up and swapped in the ignition coil from the junker. It now starts so quickly you hardly have time to get your finger off the starter button. I still think there's more power to be had on the top end, but after just a short run on flat ground she'll hit about 50+ mph now. :jig: |
That is excellent news!
|
You're gonna scoot your eye out. http://cellar.org/2012/nono.gif :haha:
|
That looks fun.
|
I want to see a pic of you on that thing grav. Haha
|
But you have to be wearing a cape. ;)

I just....
decided to stop figure skating. I'm very sad about it, but I think it's the best decision. Not a lesson goes by when I don't cry about my lost skills and how hard it is to try and coax them back (physically and emotionally), and today I realized I spend most lessons watching the clock to see when the torture will be over. I'm stubborn, I hate to be beaten but all figure skaters find it harder as they age, and it's not supposed to be torture, so I'mm'a try and take it as a positive that I didn't have to wait until I snap some bone to get the hint that it's time |
Not quitting, changing course, allowing for circumstances, adjusting priorities, proactive injury prevention, realigning time allocation.
|
Could you maybe volunteer at the rink to help with teaching little kids how to do it or something? It'd kinda be like doing it, but without the pressure of having to actually do it.
|
Sorry monster, but I'm glad for you that you're making a decision with your eyes open. It sounds like this is best.
Completely different circumstances, but there are parallels: My FIL had been holding on to his independent living apartment while he's in the nursing home wing, just hoping that he'll get strong enough to go back to that apartment. He decided last week that he'll give up the apartment because he realizes that this is his new reality. But the good news is that it's a huge burden off his shoulders because he's not feeling that pressure to reach a goal that's unrealistic. He's in such a better mental state now. Like a changed man. I'm sorry that you are giving up this part of your life, but I'm hopeful for you that by getting rid of unrealistic goals, you are happier without that unnecessary pressure on yourself. |
Thanks all ...I have a new unrealistic goal ;) I hope that will help make it easier

I just.....read stuff sometimes and fucking despair:

Dayum.
That girl needs to find better/other twitter friends. |
Oh those weren't her friends :p Just the standard onslaught of naastiness directed at everybody but especially women and especially women writing about feminism. 'Cause nothing convinces a feminist to stfu like outright misogyny :P
|
If it happens continually, with out fail, it might.
|
Yeah - I know. That's why it really gets to me sometimes when I see it.
|
The intolerant, the insane, the provocative, the odd, the aggressive, the foul mouthed, the abusive, the misogonyst and the wilful contrarian have always existed.
There was always the individual who would shout a profanity or extreme opinion as you passed in a crowded shopping centre or in the ticket hall of a Tube station. We could quickly forget him, or occasionally her, but now we have the internet we invite them into our homes. Sadly things won't change. |

I counted five responses in the story to her twitter question. they were uniformly stupid/coarse/hateful/stupid. But it looks like the story's been edited... Dana, could you check it again and see if it's been changed? I think the few comments that are there are worthless in regard to answering the question. Given the relative anonymity of the twitterverse, they're easy enough to overlook, hateful though they are. |
I never spend time on Twitter, but I went there to try to find her original tweet and the comments.
It's here. https://twitter.com/JessicaValenti/s...90148663582720 Scrolling through her page was very tiring, and I found myself disliking her by the time I found her original tweet. She's like a feminist version of Merc. A one trick hammer. Just pounding away at a single topic. Even though I agreed with her, I couldn't take it any more. |
Oh, yeah, she's not a very fun writer that's for sure lol
And I suspect (and hope) that the tweets that aren't utterly hateful might outweigh the hateful ones. It was the particular tone and angle of those tweets that made me shiver. |

I just had my flu jab.
I don't qualify for a free vaccination on grounds of age (honest!) but because I look after my Dad. The Health Centre sets aside four Saturday mornings during October and November for 'flu sessions' and you pitch up on the appropriate day as defined by the initial letter of your surname. Very well organised and, despite a long queue, only a few minutes to wait. Should be a cough, sneeze and wheeze free Winter. I hope. |
I'm on my telesales shift and just had a call that floored me. Woman lost her daughter lst week. She started to tell me and then completely broke down. Was on phone with her for about 8 minutes. I was fighting down sobs myself when the call ended. had totake a few mins to compose myself.
|
Jesus, Dana, I'm sorry for you and for her.
|
I just... passed my citizenship test.
|
Congrats! Did you take the American English; or, the British English version?
|
Welcome! It's always great to get affirmation by having others join your ranks. So thank you for that!
|
Congratulations monster, the national average IQ just went up a smidge. :celebrat:
|
Congratulations!!

I just ironed three pairs of light(ish) trousers and put them away.
Won't see them again until Spring. It's corduroy or moleskin from now on. I just zippered in the fleece lining to my Berghaus jacket so that's in Winter configuration once again. I hate Winter. I doubt if that comes as much of a surprise to anyone. |

I just did the data graphing and 1:1 aide request that my replacement will need for the "typical" all day child in our classroom. I fully expect a refusal by county and district because this whole thing smells of collusion to me. When a child is seriously injured they'll need a paper trail to follow. I've officially done a political 180 on the efficacy of community based organizations providing UPK services. Non-unionized CBO employees will be taken advantage of by their administrators and the public school administrators to avoid paying for services because they have no recourse... except for walking away.

I just touched my squirrel (about an hour ago, actually).
No, that's not a euphemism. I was holding a cookie out for him (he's been getting braver and braver, I've been trying to get him to take the cookie from my hand) and he had his mind made up he wanted it bad enough to take it. He made a few decoy runs, and then inched his way close enough. He reached for the cookie at the same time I wiggled it to entice him, knocked it out of my hand, and then grabbed my index finger with both paws, realized that wasn't cookie, then grabbed the cookie off the deck, and retired to cookie eating position. He goes to this same spot almost every time to eat the cookie. My backlit squrl: Attachment 49813 |

I suppose that was what happened here, also.
ETA: He cme back later, and I thought to get the camera going for the hand-off. I don't think he liked that great big eye (the lens) looking at him, as he was much more timid this time. I'll post the vid soon, nothing to see, really, though. |
Quote:
And when. Anyway: Told ya there wasn't much to see. |
lol - cut lil guy.
|
If he doesn't take the damn cookie pretty soon, I will cut him...
...up for supper! |
does the cookie have nuts in it?
one for the Brits.... What has a hazelnut in every bite? |
