My day late and dollar short thought in this ruptured spleen of a thread is that I think it is better to respond to the post and not the person.

My thanks to those of you who have PM'd me and asked me not to leave. I feel that at the very least the Cellar needs a vacation from me, and I from it.

I am trying to get back into the professional world. I am trying to get back to the person I once was. While I feel greatful toward those who did give me valid feedback, the negative response this thread has also generated is not what I am interested in right now. Constructive criticism is one thing. Childish attempts at bullying and obscenely worded replies are quite another. Every other board I frequent would ban a member who engaged in such activities - nasty spitefulness just for the sheer pleasure of being mean.

I will gladly take on ANYONE in an honest fight. However, if a board fosters members who can hang around trying to outvie one another in crude language and mindless ill temper then I have no interest in it. You can tell a person by the company they keep - "lumber-asshole-Jim", "turd-sucking TS", "jaded-whore jinx", and sacrilige of sacriliges, "under-handed, balless under-turd". How does it feel, folks? Alright, I lied about not responding to LJ's posts anymore, but that statement I can't let stand. At the end of the last go round on the insult thread, I PM'd LJ and told him that I'd leave him alone if he left me alone, and he actually agreed to this.

If LJ had been acting out of logic, he would have known that I had no interest in feedback from him, and, besides, he'd already said he'd leave me alone.

Who is the "attention whore," here? It should be fairly obvious to all that if LJ would have honored his promise and kept his opinions to himself, this thread would have died after maybe 10 or 20 posts and it would now be sitting forgotten far down at the end of the list. Instead, you see 170 or 180 posts with LJ playing a starring role.

Who is the person who goes on and on about one subject and refuses to drop it long after everyone else wishes that the topic was in the grave? It's hardly headline news that LJ dislikes me. I think it's great to recognize that people, even grown men, have emotions. I also think that there are times when we have to rise above our emotions. As Rose Sayer says in African Queen However, I don't think that's the problem here. I think the problem is a missing emotion - empathy. The ability and willingness to put yourself in the other person's place and see things from their point of view.

I admit it's easier for me to empathize with Mari than it may be for others. I understand how having a chronic illness can affect all aspects of your life - including your behavior. And some people need to talk it out to get a handle on it. Certainly a person's health affects their life much more than who got elected president, and we haven't cut short any of those threads.

LJ, It seems like ever since you started your new job, many of your comments seem to me to be mean-spirited and bitter. Not at all like the playful LJ of old.
