Plenty of politics ongoing in Rome. And not much talking. Some of what we know. Italian Cardinals want to rush to a vote. Making an Italian Papacy more likely. But Cardinals from other continents are stalling.
Why stalling? Obviously the Italians have an inside track. The sooner that vote, then better chance for an Italian Pope. But far more is (probably) hotly debated. We know the Catholic Church is rampant with corruption. And can suspect many fully involved insiders are Cardinals. A voting delay means more time for investigators to uncover and identify those who are corrupt. Many Cardinals would need one of their own in power to subvert such investigations.
A strong but still underpowered demand for investigations exist since (for example) most archdiocese even covered up and protected pedophiles. And were encourage to do so in Rome. Hardly a month goes by when another is exposed. The latest being the #1 Cardinal from Britain.
Collecting enough reformist Cardinals in Rome long enough to become united and to get access to the facts creates fear among the so many others who have profited in widespread Catholic Church corruption.
Important is when the conclave begins. A longer delay probably means more power going to reformists.
