Ebay success!
1. I ‘won’ an auction this morning. It was for a collector’s plate with an equine theme.
I bought one for a friend ten or twelve years ago, which I suspect her kids reduced to smithereens in short order. It occurred to me a couple of months back that it would be good to get hold of one for myself. Since then I’ve discovered that there are four in the series and, in the space of about six weeks, I’ve managed to find three of them. I’ll probably never find the remaining plate but such is life. I think I paid a little over the odds for today’s purchase. The starting price was a bit higher than I would have liked, but there were no other bidders so at least it didn’t go up anymore. 2. I bought a photo of the Royal Navy ship my Dad served on during the last couple of years of that unfortunate Anglo-German disagreement. The ship was struck off charge soon after WW2 whereas Dad, at eighty-nine, is still serviceable. The seller is in Florida BTW. Isn't the Interweb great? |
That is cool. :)

For example, I have *you* to thank for leading me to this. |
Spent 24 hours this past weekend in the Niagara region of Ontario ... wine country and tons of historical stuff. The War of 1812, earlier settlers and all that. Found an Irish shop with cable-knit sweaters from Ireland ... yes, I can/could knit one, and will soon, but for now I bought one in the MOST beautiful shades of green ... and had a cream scone in their tea room. A real cream scone with clotted cream and sliced strawberries and a smear of jam on an absolutely divine scone (it was better than any I've made, and ... don't know how to say this, but that's saying something).
And later, found a bakery with Scotch pies, Forfar Bridies, Cornish Pasties, and real butter tarts. The Scotch pies were not up to my great-grandmother's standard, but the Cornish Pasty was. And the butter tart ... hm. I'll have to revise my recipe. Notes to follow. |
what is the name of the bakery?
|
Niagara Home Bakery, Niagara on the Lake. They're on Queen Street.

I received a card from Sundae this morning.
Written with her characteristic eloquence and wit, it augers well for the future. |
