Thanks guys. :)

I just want a little daisy decal for one of the windows, and I'll put a little daisy in the little vase thingy. No vanity plates, but I'd like to get the Ohio Scenic Rivers plate, with the Blue Heron.

It's so fun!

classicman 08-24-2009 08:48 PM

Congrats! Hope it lasts longer than your last car

:bolt: <Zen put me up to it>

glatt 08-24-2009 08:59 PM

Shawnee, that's a fantastic car! Was the dealership a zoo today?

Eb is good with me (I play Eb bass in the local brass band).
Looks like I'ma gonna havta play in the local trad jazz outfit now, too .
(That's not me in the pic by the way!)

Oh, and Shawnee - what a fab car!

ZenGum 08-25-2009 06:05 AM

Cellar music match number one!

Limey Vs. Urbane Guerilla!
Sousaphone Vs. bagpipes
U.K. Vs. USA ... except that it would work much better if UG had the Sousaphone and Limey had the bagpipes.

Fucking A! That's totally awesome Zen:)

Shawnee: that's one adorable Bug honey.

Limey: I had no idea that was called a sousaphone.

What's making me happy today is....I dunno...I think the mild depression I've been dealing with is finally lifting. I feel pretty damn good at the moment. Like I can actually get some work done and stuff without it being like walking through treacle. yey!

Shawnee123 08-25-2009 07:22 AM

Thanks again, all!

@ classic: hardy har. I now look about 3 miles up the road before turning ANYWHERE, especially downtown.

@ glatt: dealership wasn't bad at all. They were expecting me, as they had given me the car to drive for the weekend. Of course, this is a used car so I don't think the Cash for Dunkards melee applied.

eta: I never did come up with a name for the Saturn, but this car was easy to name: Daisy Mae!

Nirvana 08-25-2009 08:47 AM

I love your car Shawnee! I could just pinch its cute cheeks! :)

Dingleschmutz 08-25-2009 08:52 AM

There's nothing going on at work today... Which means I'm going to be getting paid to partake in my Fantasty Football Draft :)

skysidhe 08-25-2009 09:18 AM

I've never heard of a sousaphone.

Nice car 123. Nice color. It makes the body style seem sharper.

Dana I am glad you are feeling better.

Have yous seen the daisy wheels they make? I think that car totally fits your sunny personality. WTG!

Shawnee123 08-25-2009 09:29 AM

Uh oh...daisy wheels? :)

The interior is gray, so that matches my dark side.

People! A sousaphone is a tuba. It was named after John Philip Sousa, who ordered it as a way to have a tuba that one could hold and carry easily. Sousa is known for writing pretty much all of the major march-type pieces that America holds dear.

He also wrote this fine work, which features the tuba nicely, and you'll hear it if you have something configured on your system to play OGG files, such as Quicktime:

"Easily" is a relative term, of course! I tried on a fibreglass Bb Sousaphone about a month ago and boy, is it ever heavy on the old shoulder! But this li'l Eb was just irresistible!

xoxoxoBruce 08-25-2009 10:58 AM

Assuming you mean me, then there is a pic of the instrument here, and I'll get one of me playing it when I get it (later this week).
Meanwhile ...

Survived my first First Day as a teacher. Only 179 more days to go! Prob. won't be seeing much of the Cellar for a while, which is a bummer, but I'll try to check in when I can!

classicman 08-25-2009 10:29 PM

please do!

My brother the ex art teacher highly recommends the book Don't Smile Until Christmas. He considers it a must-read for new teachers.

Shawnee123 08-26-2009 12:16 PM

I really really like my cow orkers! :)

Glinda 08-27-2009 10:30 AM

A million years ago (pre-VCR/DVR) when I was 19, I was on the Match Game. When I got my DVR, three years ago, I started recording reruns of the Match Game, to see if my show ever came up. Three or four episodes a day for three years, and finally, yesterday, there I was!

Now I have to figure out how to record the thing onto a disc so I can upload it to YouTube and share it with you goofballs....

jinx 08-27-2009 10:35 AM

Cool!

Clodfobble 08-27-2009 12:31 PM

Wow! I wanna see!

Queen of the Ryche 08-27-2009 01:08 PM

I loved that show! Probably the drunkest, smokiest, crassest, funniest crowd on the telly - they'd be banned int his day and age. Bring em back! We wanna see Glinda!

glatt 08-27-2009 02:29 PM

That's really cool. I want to see it too. Did you meet Charles Nelson Reilly?

Shawnee123 08-27-2009 05:46 PM

Oh wow Glinda. I have to see this. And, I'm really jealous!

ZenGum 08-28-2009 02:38 AM

5.06 pm on a goddamn Friday afternoon and I am OUTTA HERE.

Big pile of marking to do but I will ignore that for now. See yas!

DanaC 08-28-2009 07:35 AM

Went to see an old family friend (by old I mean of old, not that he is old :P) performing in Blackpool.

I may have mentioned him here before: my bro's best friend from school. Practically lived at our house in that way kids do; like another sibling. He sings and writes his own stuff, but mostly he is a Neil Diamond impersonator. He's part of the 'Legends' show, which puts on shows with several musical 'legends'.

Was a good time. The Diana Ross singer was awesome, as was Freddie Mercury. But Gaz just totally becomes Neil Diamond; it's freaky. He looks a lot like him anyway. There's no sense of him 'pretending' he just totally inhabits the role when he's on stage. Mannerisms and general air and everything. And his voice sounds just like him.

He seems happier and more settled lately. Haven't seen him much at all the last decade or so. Maybe two or three times in 15 years. Last time we saw him was at Dad's funeral. I was so pleased he made it.

It's nice to see him ....comfortable with himself. I think he may finally have got the hang of being content. He was always such a roving soul. A die-hard romantic who always managed to choose the wrong girl and get his heart broken :P But we all grow up. Eventually.

I did. Also David Doyle (Charlie's Angels), Eva Gabor (Green Acres), Brett Somers, Betty White, and Richard Dawson.

Oh yeah. At one point in the show, Gene Rayburn gave a completely obvious ogle to my breastal area. Dirty old man!

DanaC 08-30-2009 10:37 AM

Har! I've been convinced that Pilau is 11 years old and about to turn 12 this month. Mum was sayin she was sure they (Pilau and Dante - aka The Boys) weren't. She dug out their birth certificates last night. Turns out she was right. They're 10 and will turn 11 later this month. My little wolf ain't such an old fellah after all :)

Shawnee123 08-30-2009 10:48 AM

@ Dana: I keep doing that with my cat. My ex informed me I was a year off when I said, in April, that she's 17. She's only 16.

Glinda, I love Betty White and Eva Gabor. Brett Somers was such a hoot, too. What a cool experience.

eta: I just checked and I didn't see Pilau's birthday listed under his statistics in the member's list. :(

So Happy Birthday Pilau whatever day it is! :)

DanaC 08-30-2009 10:49 AM

Oh...errr....by later this month I mean Sept. I seem to be getting ahead of myself.

Just got back from Maine where we saw this little fella...

glatt 08-30-2009 01:47 PM

Fantastic photo Griff!

Where was that in Maine?

Griff 08-30-2009 05:18 PM

I think it was Trout Pond between Second and Fourth Roach Pond near Moosehead Lake in Maine. They may want to upgrade their naming scheme.

xoxoxoBruce 08-30-2009 05:24 PM

Where in hell is 5th Roach Pond?

Griff 08-30-2009 07:27 PM

It might be Trout Pond?

monster 08-30-2009 08:27 PM

By the time they got the the 5th roach, they coudn't give a fuck, they just wanted some M&Ms

footfootfoot 08-30-2009 10:38 PM

I know Moosehead Lake well. Especially up near Seboomick. That's where I saw my first moose.

Gorgeous up there.

Griff 08-31-2009 05:41 AM

Yeah, fantastic lanscape. It is under some threat from development now though. Apparently, a major lumber company sold out its holdings to a big developer and the locals expect seasonal condos and pavement will block the free access guides and locals had to the wild areas.

This is!

dar512 08-31-2009 02:39 PM

Excellent!

What are you going to play on that thing? NO jazz? Sousa march? What?

limey 08-31-2009 03:02 PM

There's a local trad jazz band that I'll prolly tag along with ... Sousa wrote some great bass lines for his marches but this instrument is not allowed in the brass band line up so the Sousa'll have to wait!
And next August I'm going to play a duet ("Land of the lonesome pine" with another sousaphone player - only he doesn't know it yet!:D

Undertoad 08-31-2009 03:14 PM

Awesome. What's the lowest note it can play?

limey 08-31-2009 03:34 PM

It's pitched in Eb but with practice, in theory, the valves'll take it down to an A. That'd be the lowest A on the piano.

Oh and it makes a LOVELY sound! Good, rich and velvety!

That'd be an A0 - 27.5Hz. Impressive.

Realistically I'll only ever make it to the Eb above that, and that'd just be for special occasions!

ZenGum 08-31-2009 07:46 PM

Wow, that is approaching the bottom range of human hearing.
