@ Shaw: that's such a delightful mental image. Makes me smile.
@ Pete: Italy? I didn't know your kid was in Europe. Wow.

@ 'vana: Oh! I just saw the bit about Kyrie! Bitter sweet; diamonds and rust.

Nirvana 04-01-2010 05:00 PM

My little Chihuahua Mia will not lose her eye! YAY! :)

Bruce 9012 04-01-2010 05:30 PM

My Dayton Flyers, Playing for the N.I.T Final. In 30....29.....28.....

Shawnee123 04-01-2010 05:37 PM

Oh hai Bruce! How 'bout those Flyers?

I used to follow them more when I was in HS. I still think of the coach as Donaher. And I had a crush on Kevin Conrad. Roosevelt Chapman was a star.

AND I worked with a guy at my old job who was a Flyer star in his time. Great guy.

Don't you think that Coach Gregory sounds EXACTLY like Michael J Fox?

It's a foreign exchange visit. We had an Italian student with us for two weeks. Then Z_let #2 stayed with her for two weeks. It's a lot of work, but she's had a really good experience.

Working AT UD Arena as a teenager kinda sucked. I met Rush Face to face ..I lied Bong to face True story..

Bruce 9012 04-01-2010 09:40 PM

Thank you Shawnee. Brian Gregery is Gone. He had somthing to prove and sorta kinda did it

Shawnee123 04-02-2010 07:21 AM

@ Dana: he was sweet, that little bird. I work on the 3rd floor, and it's a row of recessed windows...so that he landed in my window was a nice sign of spring. I heard him singing and looked up and there he was.

I wish I could figure out what kind of bird he (or she) was. He looked small. Are baby birdies being borned yet?

Shawnee123 04-02-2010 07:26 AM

Awwww...we had a new person start yesterday. She's actually been a student worker for some time. I just heard my cube-neighbor telling her "and Shaw might not think so, but she's my other go-to person, she knows a lot of the tricks with the system."

It took a lonngggggg time (I'm such a late bloomer) and I was really having trouble here at this job for a while, but all of a sudden I feel like I finally found my niche.

I really really like my cow orkers. :)

DanaC 04-02-2010 07:31 AM

What a marvellous thing to overhear!

Shawnee123 04-02-2010 07:32 AM

It was. :)

It's better than hearing "that Shaw is really dumb and lazy and doesn't know shit! Avoid her at all costs!"

Cloud 04-02-2010 09:39 AM

day off from work for Good Friday!

Pie 04-02-2010 10:16 AM

Fuck good friday.

He ain't my savior. I'm not wasting one of my (very few) days off on someone else's self-delusional groupthink.

DanaC 04-02-2010 10:38 AM

I am currently enjoying a really nice Good Friday breakfast (yes I realise it's closer to tea-time, but this is me breaking my fast so there!). I went mad on Taste The Difference, and organic etc at the supermarket yesterday::P

Two fried pork and apple sausages; 5 mini portobello mushrooms cooked in butter, fresh parsley and black pepper; four small, vine-ripened tomatoes, slowly cooked in a little olive oil, some fresh basil and a splash of worcestershire sauce; baked beans, with a sprinkle of parsley left over from the mushrooms; two slices of crusty loaf toasted and buttered.

classicman 04-02-2010 10:43 AM

Pie - not that you have to agree or anything, but you wouldn't have the day off at all if it wasn't Good Friday

Shawnee123 04-02-2010 10:45 AM

We don't get religious holidays off. Well, we get Christmas...but it's pretty much known as THE Holidays, so as not to make people think they gotta believe in Jebus to enjoy the time off.

Isn't there a "Remembering Some Old Guys" day or some such federal holiday coming up?

classicman 04-02-2010 10:50 AM

Lotta people are off today - I am NOT one of them and that sux.
I really need a day off without having to see a doctor or therapist or lawyer or some other fucker that makes 5-10x what I do.

sorry wrong thread

It IS a beautiful day out and the weekend is almost here

I read your post wrong - sry - Still pissed that many have the day off and I don't.

Eggs.
AKA eggsies.
And in this house AKA peggsies (not to be confused with Simon Pegg)

It being Easter - a null and void holiday for an athiest non-choc lover, I had to make my own diversion. Eggs. Yay!

I love the sequinned one the most. I should do, it took me frickin hours! It doesn't reveal its full glory to the camera though.

And what you have to remember, is not to leave your chick-assassin cat alone in the room if one of your eggs is chick-centric. Evidence for the prosecution m'lud. Chicks previously glued into shell, removed them from the egg stand and from the table, found partially dismembered on the floor. And the Defendent showed absolutely no remorse.

Pics are therefore before and after.

I respect your right to a differing opinion, but do you really need to harsh my Good Friday buzz?

jinx 04-02-2010 03:42 PM

Every friday is good.

Pico and ME 04-02-2010 03:45 PM

Warm breezy day, cold bottle of MGD and the grill just about to be started for the first time this year. Yeah.

Her view shouldnt be harshing your view - only if you let it.

monster 04-02-2010 04:09 PM

Beest off work and we grilled for lunch! yay! Also I'm getting the garden started.

Cloud 04-02-2010 04:17 PM

don't care what religion it is--a paid day off is a paid day off.

we always get it as a vacation day; my bosses are pretty religious. Although 1) my boss is actually fishing today; and 2) I'm actually having to do a bit of work, because no one else in my office can apparently figure out how to e-file something with the courts. I may have to nip in, but I hope not, because I'm having car trouble.

capnhowdy 04-03-2010 07:13 AM

I won 2 out of 3 in a horseshoe tourney. Drank lots of Jim Beam. Ate semi-burned hot dogs and sausages. Enjoyed relatives and wife. Life is good.

DanaC 04-03-2010 07:20 AM

*smiles* sounds positively idyllic, capn :)

DanaC 04-05-2010 06:39 AM

Mum got us all Easter eggs! *chuckles*

Last year was the first year Dad wasn't around for Easter. He always got us all eggs: Mum, my Bro, my SiL, the girls, me, and J (my best friend and former partner, who up until last year lived next door but one to my Bro). He'd come trundling over the Pennines in his van with eggs piled in the back: girly ones for the girls, 'Yorkie' eggs, or something equally manly for the lads :P

So this year Mum turned up with chocolate eggs for the girls, my bro, my SiL, me and *chuckles* one for Meel's new (first) boyfriend, who came to dinner as well :P She said she's taking over Dad's Easter duties.

Sorry, Pete.

I guess I get overly-sensitive about it since I have to play the 'good' daughter-in-law to a religious family. Every year it sticks in my craw.

But I certainly hope you and your family had a happy, healthy Easter celebration.

classicman 04-05-2010 10:45 AM

Jaydaan 04-05-2010 05:54 PM

Just got back from a great night/morning with my husband. He suprised me yesterday after work and booked the signature/honeymoon suite at the hotel we work at. We have been together 17 years, and we have NEVER got a hotel room before. We are too practical and the cost was too much for us to "waste". We had room service dinner, went to the pub for a few drinks, had a jakuzi tub, and a great night together. We took some champagne and ice wine with us as well. The king bed was suprizingly comfortable, the duvet was all snuggly as well. |I would have slept better if I was not so worried about missing the alarm and missing check out. This morning we had another tub while we had our morning coffee before we checked out and came home. Because it was a quiet night in the hotel, and the big suites were not being used, we got our "work perk" price for the "upgrade" and payed $31.64 after taxes for a $275.00 room. I would never pay full price, but $30 was a fantastic treat, and a really cool romantic gesture from my hubby.

xoxoxoBruce 04-05-2010 11:14 PM

Excellent Jaydaan, sounds wonderful. :D

skysidhe 04-06-2010 01:06 AM

very nice Jaydaan :)

There's a rumor that I might get my Jeep back soon. Maybe even this week. I'm trying not to get my hopes up, but I am missing it bad. I've been looking longingly at others that I see. Even crappy trim level stock v6s...

Supposedly up over $15K worth of boo boo now. Eek.

TheMercenary 04-06-2010 08:07 PM

We got our Mini back after nearly 3 months, but they did it up right and SWMBO is happy. So I am happy.

We are nearly done with it all.

Stupid fucking teen drivers.

glatt 04-07-2010 01:20 PM

I was going to post this in the "what's annoying you thread, but as I was thinking about it, I realized that I wasn't annoyed. I was happy. So I may be a freak, but here's what's making me happy today.

There will be a Nuclear Security Summit across the street from my office on Monday and Tuesday. In preparation for expected protests, they are closing all the streets surrounding my office, and will probably have police checkpoints for all pedestrians who try to approach the office. I'm preparing about 75 individual letters on company letterhead that staff without business cards can use to hopefully get past the cops to come in to work those days.

I should be annoyed because it will be disruptive and it's creating more work, but it turns out that I enjoy disruptive stuff when it disrupts the mundane work day. It's like a snow day. I'll bring my camera.

I'm waiting too, next week, next week.

Sundae 04-08-2010 06:28 AM

Today is gorgeous!
Weather-wise, but making it feel gorgeous all over.
Both cats are out enjoying the sunshine and not bothering eachother.
I'm not necessarily a Spring fan. Or a sunshine fan. But at least when the two collide it's cool enough to enjoy.

Oh and Mum's in a great mood with me. I "catered" last night when her friends were round. I mean she still did 90% of the cooking, but I served and washed and wiped up and generally made sure she had as much time as possible to enjoy with her friends (from Ipswich - they only see eachother twice a year).

Of course I'm rubbing my hands a la Mr Burns; it was a crafty plan to show her how much I can help when she has her girls' night in. It's not all that sinister tbh. I just wanted her to understand that I can be involved without taking over. And after all, as the real me wakes up, I'm delighted to be taking more things on.

And I hope she understands that I was not being lazy. I was depressed. And as I come out of that I want to help more and more. They carried me for a year. I don't need that any more, and I want to earn my keep. And the more responsibility that I take on, the more prepared I'll be to make that a financial return too.

Yeah anyway. Sun is shining :)

monster 04-08-2010 08:17 AM

Nothing so far is making me happy today. It's started out goddamn lousy. Walk and brekky with friend cancelled through miscommunication, crappy weather, stoopit hockey coach emails, not enough quality sleep and it's only 9am. Bur I am bloody determined to be happy about something by the end of the day, I tell you. DETERMINED.

I guess I'm slightly mollified to note that it wasn't a dream that I did the swim team registration last night, something over which I had been procrastinating to the point where it had major disaster potential, but fortunately it all went surprisingly smoothly. Guess I'm still waiting for the other shoe to drop on that one.

Oh but that reminded me that i was listening to the Whalers get knocked out of the play-off while I was working :(

DETERMINED.......

glatt 04-08-2010 08:28 AM

Do you like the royals? What about a royal wedding? Everybody likes a royal wedding. Word is there are a couple days inexplicably clear on the royal calendar, and supposition that an Announcement will be made. At least, that's what I read on Facebook.

monster 04-08-2010 08:46 AM

Only if she wears a black dress and has the word 'fuck" incorporated into her vows. That would make me smile. The word "cunt" as a bonus might even prompt a hearty guffaw.....

lumberjim 04-08-2010 10:03 AM

I sold 8 of Ripley's 10 Cheerleading Fundraiser $5 Raffle Tickets in less than 10 minutes. Am tempted to keep the last two.

There now, you're so good you could do it in your sleep if you had to. That ought to make you happy. :D

Griff 04-08-2010 04:44 PM

I'm exhausted but happy. We took lil' Pete early campus touring the last two days down Philadelphia way. Haverford and Swarthmore are just beautiful and either could be a good fit. Penn is too urban for her and Bryn Mawr has too few [edit] um... guys [/edit] on the dance floor. We know a guy on Haverford's fencing team who gave us some insight as she's on the fence between varsity vs competitive club fencing.
