What is the material? Paper? Why the tape at the circumference?

Yes, double-stick tape, markings at 1" increments. The question is: why?

I measured it with my ruler - the marks at the bottom/left are farther apart than the marks at the top/right.

Looks like you guys think you're a couple of jokers here, huh? We'll just see how funny it is when... well I guess I can't really do anything about it.

well markings like that are often used to plot points on an xy graph for lots of applications, transferring or scaling drawings is one type of application, depicting data is another. Why a circle? What is circular besides drum heads and cymbals? (and besides, scaling and transferring drawings this way is terribly retro) Windows can be circular, game boards could be circular.

But why the tape? why does this need to be carefully taped/registered in place?

Something to do with checking the area of rectangles or other shapes? Some type of measuring device?

Do drummers typically have chunky stools?

Flint is working on the design of his doomsday bunker.

It's to stick on the top of an uplighting floor lamp. You'll prick holes in it to recreate the night sky on your family room ceiling.

Spexxvet 03-26-2011 07:57 AM

You said prick.:p:

Double-sided tape.

footfootfoot 03-26-2011 10:31 AM

I know it's double sided, am I looking through something clear at the paper below? Is this some sort of erasable plotting device that uses a china marker to write on glass or plastic?
