That's so awesome that your wives play too.
I occasionally play a game I invented called "Captain Justice" with my kids. It's a very loosely run role playing game where we just talk about what we do. We're superheros and it's a lot of work coming up with new missions and bad guys to fight, so I get sick of playing it, but my kids love it. |
That's awesome to hear glatt, because I realized I could play D&D with my kids on this homemade board. With some exciting drawings, fun miniatures, and lowering the burden of "rules" while raising the ability of "imagination" to create, as you say, a very loosely run RPG. Glad to hear you've tried this and it works!

They love the imagination part of it.
One of their favorite parts is where I get lazy and say we have to do some sort of Olympic competition against a rival good super hero league. It's a lot easier than thinking up a mission. Usually the competitions are silly ones. Like you have to harvest the honey from a hive of honey bees. Your character has the power of flight and speed and x-ray vision, and your opponent is the Hulk. You calmly harvest the honey, fighting your urge to go fast, and wearing the beekeeper suit and using the smoke. Meanwhile, the Hulk gets stung a few times, gets really pissed off, and smashes his hive. You win. |
I'm thinking of ways to make it more of a puzzle-solving RPG (less violent), although my wife points out correctly that the kids do need to learn strategic thinking. We could pepper the game with suggestions from Machiavelli and Sun Tzu.
