12/14: Baby what?

http://cellar.org/pictures/babykanga.jpg

I had never seen a baby kangaroo until this picture. I didn't save the details on it -- sometimes it's hard to do that. But I think it was rejected by its mom and is being raised in a constructed pail of some sort.

That there's one weird-ass lookin' beastie.

i am such a sucker for things like that. like matatees...theyre so ugly theyre cute. :)

Man. Whatever. That thing is so CUTE that it's cute. :)

Another fine Friday image from the man that can pick 'em. Good job, Tony. Even the woman likes this one :)

Though I wonder how she'd like our smiling pig :)

I have a cute picture of alpacas I was thinking of posting today - you probably know which one I'm talking about. Jenni's sister has two of them. Apparently they're pretty cute. I haven't seen them up close though. Oh well.

jennofay 12-14-2001 01:48 PM

ill bring you to see them. (alpacas)

but yea. after looking at it more, i realized that it was kinda cute :) like a rat... :)

oh and as a side note, only two weeks until my birthday, everyone ... feel free to get me presents. i like presents :)

(ok, i was kidding... kind of...)

:)

It *is* cute. It has that "baby" look. I remember reading an article about a study that tried to determine the reaction that we have to "baby" anythings.

First they analized what makes a face seem like a baby -- turns out that it's the proportion of eye size to head size more than anything else.

And it's not just humans who have specific reactions to babies -- of any species. Case-in-point, the "interspecial mothering" picture that Tony posted previously.

With or without all of these studies, though, babies DO affect me that way -- and I don't care why! :)

Big eyes definitely have something to do with it. Jenni has large-ish eyes. They're not so big that you really notice them - or at least, I don't. But it's a subtle touch that makes her, quite easily, the cutest person I have ever seen. :)

My first Photoshop for imaging fun.

(My 934th use if you include web stuff)

dave 12-14-2001 06:34 PM

how'd you get that number? seriously, 934 photoshops?

not bad though :) i used to do some fun things, but i haven't used photoshop in forever (being a unix dude has that effect on you...)

Undertoad 12-14-2001 07:02 PM

Yes, most of them were for more traditional Photoshop uses, preparing text & graphics & images for web sites.

Looks more like a dog than Seņor "Drop the Chalupa" does.

Babies have to be cute. More so if the baby is your own. It's the reason our species have made it this far. It's our nature to protect the cute. We won't put up with any other creature that acts like a kid does.
Pretty works in a similar fashion. Most people kill cockroaches on sight, how many kill butterflies intentionally? Both are bugs after all.
Hmm, I do seem to be suggesting our race survives (or did in less 'civilized' times) due to the cuteness appeal of children... I guess that's my quota for cynicism for today.

cute = free ride at least in this society

DUDE you are so right.

If you are ood looking, you will find that things just seem to go your way more often, for your entire life. You'll get "the benefit of the doubt" more often. It's human nature to bias toward good looks, and one of the main reasons that life isn't fair.

You'll get better jobs, be treated better by authority figures from teachers to police, be respected more in public, find that OTHER good-looking people seek you out, and utimately you will land a better looking mate with which to spend your days. Not fair at all (but nice!).
