Shooting the finger @ TEXAS
Yep, tomorrow (friday april 28)... a driving:doit: to Comfort, TX... so all you cowboys and fillies, step out side, and let them hands fly.
Next Tues (May something or other), y'all can step outside and look up in the sky, because then I'll be heading back to the crackerland of LA (Lower Alabama and Florida Panhandle) Which begs the question (or excuse for posting this thread) What do y'all think about Texans? I know the French suppose to hate Americans,... they must really get their panties crinkeled when approached by a Texan. :doit: |
as a texan, i don't mind 'em.
some texans are...ridiculous....but most are really ok. no matter where you go, people are usually kind hearted, nice, freindly. that's been my experience at least. |
My ex was born in Texas and she is a psycho bitch!
|
Never been. But I don't base my like or dislikes on where someone comes from.
|
Texas seems to be it's own country, which I can appreciate since Alaska is the same way.
It's not right or wrong, it just is what it is. |
They gave Bush and DeLay political credentials, and sent them over to my neck of the woods. I mean, come on! Did we ever send Marion Barry over to Texas?
|
wow.... a real ALASKAN... I don't know crap about that territory.. But was blown away by Michener's book .... (i still feel like sabotaging Seattle for how they underhandedly kept that great state deprived and strangled for decades, if not hundred of years) ... AND the Canadians = Saints, who probably tried to be the only decent humans to balance nature and human natures.
|
@ HappyMonkey, politically,... yeah... damn Texas NEVER had Republican Gov.
But good god... let one Bush in and Armegeddon is hellbound. |
i have to agree. the main thing i am sorry for, as a texan, is gwbushy.
bubba dubya. i would like to take this moment to apologize for that. many many texans are not like that guy. there are a lot of hipsters and artists here. we're not all into war and the death penalty and hypocritical, funda-MENTAL christianity. |
You people were the ones to call Bowie a fag back in the old days.
He said so...! |
I see that more vehicles with fake, plastic testicles (aka - "TruckNuts") hanging from the trailer hitch have Texas plates than others.
I dunno. Maybe fake balls mean something there. |

Yeah, he said in the old days that on one of the early tours he went to TX and they were all yelling "die faggot" at him.
|
i wouldn't friggin doubt it. i guess there are a-holes everywhere.
but really there are some good souls here in texas. most of them, actually. |
hey, twenty,.... I'm from TX, and I'm a good asssoul... *wink wink*
But we do have a knack of being, .... uhhhhh....... (for example, people from Missouri... are hard headed just like the stereotype, ... you Really gotta show them) |
i hear you tiddy. its true. and texas isn't exactly known to be "progressive."
even still, not all bad. hell, i'm moving to australia in a year or two, so i'll be defending texas to whole other country. they like texans (and other americans) there, though, generally. |
I like they way they can get three or four syllables into the word "noon". :)
|
the longest word in texas?
sheeeee-iiiiii-t. (old joke. sorry.) |
LOL
Going to Aussieland? Hell, you ain't moving from Texas... you're moving to TX heaven, home of home on the range... (now just git rid of all them randy upper-crest royal UK bastards that try and keep thinking of "colony" absurditites) |

Check Mate!

yeah, we're not all bad. but there are exceptions. that's everywhere you go though. i've piloted all over the southern states from el paso texas to as far north as arkansas, to hang with zippyt, to as far east to north carolina and have found that the good, by far, out weigh the bad! hmmm. come to think of it i need to pilot my way up to Kansas City and kick back with a beer. who knows, i might make a stop along the way and pick up zippyt. he could probably use another flight lesson!
|
Californians often harbor a pointed dislike for Texans due to the screwjobs of Enron and the president (Florida gets handouts like no other state while California is told it can deal with things like the energy crisis).
|
When I lived in Albuquerque, calling a person a Texan was a racial slur.
|
When I lived in Los Angeles anyone with a southern dialect was thought of as a Texan and considered "slow" and aggressive.
They feared rednecks far more than they did gang-bangers... it was hilarious. I have some great stories, one short one is that I used to do a redneck character voice around an office I used to work in, mostly gay men and women worked there (they thought I was gay because I was an actor and mentioned it in my interview, they were unhappy when they found out I was not, lol). I was told to stop using "the voice" because it was scaring people.:eyebrow: |
@ Toonchi - indeed. probably because the flock her during ski season and can't drive for $#!T
|
My biggest issue with Texas/Texans is the dallas cowboys. We get beat over the head with cowboy coverage here. I'm not a real NFL fan, but it'd benice to hear about something other than the 'pokes (and the denver broncos for that matter.)

Ok, it's actually "All my exes live in Texas", but yours was damn close.;) |
Interesting trivia I heard about Texans in Interpreters School: Texas is the only state where driving with an open container of booze in the car is not illegal. The Highway Patrol lobbied against that law because they would have had to arrest the entire state. It's a "time-honored tradition", according to them, that a man needs to open a cold one as he is driving the long road home after work.
(...or before work or during lunch break or during work or....) |
In fact, there is a little known [to outsiders] law that if you are a Texas resident, traveling across at least 2 counties in Texas, you can legally carry a handgun in the passenger compartment of your vehicle without a concealed carry permit. You must immediately declare it if stopped by law enforcement; but, you won't be detained for the weapon possession.
Additionally, unlike some other states, Texas state history is emphasized in its school system. Natives of the state are taught that the term "Texan" came about in Hollywood westerns and stuck with the rest of the country. If you want to get in good with natives (especially older folks) of that state, use the official term that they were raised with - "Texian." Hollywood didn't like it; so, they changed it. I lived in San Antonio for years and considered it my second home. These are a couple of noteworthy tidbits that I picked up from native friends. :) |

oh yeah...open containers are illegal here........
|
Of course. There are some Texans I like. I try to give people a fair shake but that does not change the general distaste harbored here, especially in more liberal areas.
