Do they know it's Friday?

Remember in "Feed the World" when they say "Do they know it's Christmas time at all" ?...

Well, it's Friday, and that's great for me. For others, Friday is not such a big deal.

For example, hospital patients, they don't care that it's Friday. They might not even know that it's Friday. They might be aware of a shift change, the weekend staff coming in, but maybe not. Anyway, they aren't excited about it being Friday, the way I am.

Another group of people who don't care that it's Friday are, like, starving children in Africa. Yes, the "Feed the World" people - do they know it's Friday? For them, today might be the day they die. And sadly, they will burn in hell, if they haven't accepted Jesus. Apparently, being born in Africa is a sin. Can that be right?

I would bet that many more people in the world don't care that it's Friday, than those who do. We should count ourselves lucky that TGIF exists in this great nation. Ironically, if it weren't for those freedom-hating liberal unions here in America, we wouldn't have a five-day work week either.

So, listen up, Mr. Vast Right-Wing Police-State Conspiracy, you can take my TGIF when you pry it from my cold, dead hands. (not litearlly, of course. you just can't have it)

Untrue. Patients always know when there is a shift change. Perhaps the favored nurse will be on duty! Plus, weekends are always more quiet. Patients get more rest.

Not if they are, like, unconcious. I work at a hospital.

(btw: that quote doesn't make any sense, in that order)

I worked in a hosp. for 10 years. Unconscious people KNOW when they are being treated by their favorite people. If you don't know that, you've not treated them.

Ya got me! I haven't treated them, I'm a computer guy.

(why do you keep posting sloppy quotes? please be more careful, these quotes are out of order and/or irrelevant)

This is the part that will really blow your mind:

Right now, in Africa, there's some guy in a tribe somewhere who's wondering if you know it's Mugga Tugga day, and he pities you because you'll never know the joys of this day.

thrillhouse 05-19-2006 12:51 PM

mugga tugga. . . . wait! is that today?

woOt.

Elspode 05-19-2006 02:38 PM

Yup...the blessed day when everyone is supposed to tugga on they mugga.

Every day is mugga tugga day. Hooray!

footfootfoot 05-19-2006 05:10 PM

prolly any patient who was concious knew exactly when Brianna was coming on shift. They prolly also pretended to still be sick, long after they were better jsut so they could still have her take care of them.

Just a guess.

Trilby 05-19-2006 05:27 PM

;) You know it.

JayMcGee 05-19-2006 07:42 PM

Jen knows when it's Friday..... just be grateful.....

Flint 05-19-2006 10:06 PM

@JayMcGee: That ain't no lie! Let me ask you somethin' - does SC get bombed like that on the weekend, or, to put it this way, if you post there much, how many accounts do you keep on ignore?

plthijinx 05-19-2006 10:44 PM

i would act sick any day to have Bri take care of me!

zippyt 05-20-2006 01:46 AM

can you say " sponge Bath !!!!"

NoBoxes 05-20-2006 02:01 AM

"Sponge bathing", sounds like someone wants to be bathed; but, doesn't want to pay for it. No wonder there's a shortage of nurses!

Spexxvet 05-20-2006 09:25 AM

Bri on the terminal wing might give a whole new meaning to "happy ending" :joylove:

I took a trip to the ER last Friday (turned out ok) and they kept me overnight for observation. The staff were wearing leis. I correctly assumed that it was Hawaiian shirt Friday.

I will say that except for the difficulty in getting tests scheduled, once you are in a hospital room the outside world seems to be a little disconnected when it comes to days of the week. They even went so far as to write the day on a whiteboard on the wall at the foot of the hospital beds.

Without a newspaper, the only way to tell the day was to turn on the TV.

BTW, when one of my in-laws was sick, I had to give them a sponge bath (with a washcloth). It's not a lot of fun from the back of the sponge.

Spexxvet 05-20-2006 09:44 AM

Did you go to Riddle? I was in their ER on Saturday.

starvation time zones .....I guess. We should know what time it is there before we hit our next bag of chips? Who cares if they know the time. I should know the time with my golden arches. To some it is only today. Might be the day someone dies, maybe around dinner time.

I find it interesting, and perhaps a little scary that that tradition outlasted the Morning Zoo. Nikki Hoi.

(Our Outreach Department does that too. They have some very elaborate Hawaiian Shirts.)

JayMcGee 05-20-2006 06:24 PM

she'e regular as clockwork, Flint. Every Friday, without fail.

Straight on the ignore list, of course.

.....mmmmm.... next time these cellurites hound you or steve, just drop a line to Jen mentioning this site....

DucksNuts 05-20-2006 10:24 PM
