Fruity Songs.....

My turn to compile the local pub-quizz in a few weeks time, and I always like to have a theme to the music round...( you know, play a few bars, guess the song and artiste).

Having just heard on the wireless (for the first time in ages) 'I had too much too dream last night' by the electric prunes, I think 'fruit' should be the theme.

So, I'm looking for 9 more well known songs with fruit either in the title or the artiste/band.....

xoxoxoBruce 10-17-2006 07:51 PM

1910 fruitgum company. Pick a song. ;)

JayMcGee 10-17-2006 08:06 PM

good call. The only hit over here was 'Simon says'. Goes on the list.

footfootfoot 10-17-2006 08:10 PM

Bruce, you thunder stealing rascal! I believe that was my first record album. That or the Partridge family which, in its own way is nearly as fruity.

Ibby 10-17-2006 08:18 PM

I would say Queen or Elton John, but then I actually read the thread.

Wild Cherry!

JayMcGee 10-17-2006 08:20 PM

you find the partridge family fruity..? hey ho, whatever....

however, the rules of the quizz are for well-known tracks (usually singles, but the odd very famous album track is permitted)

PS for your guitar tidy, could you not daisy-chain them from the chandilier?

richlevy 10-17-2006 08:47 PM

Lemon Tree (by many folk groups (Kingston Trio?)
Raspberry Beret (used as a color, but still a fruit) (by Prince)
I never promised you a (Rose Garden) (a rose is an aggregate fruit)
Cherry Bomb (by John Cougar Mellancamp)
Cherry, Cherry (by Neil Diamond)

And if we were talking bands then

Strawberry Alarm Clock

Ibby 10-17-2006 08:51 PM

The Lemon Song!

Banana Man!

Uhhhh..

footfootfoot 10-17-2006 08:54 PM

Raspberries "Go all the way"

I'm just thinking the partrdige family might be a little fruity for adult men to be into, but then I think it has been nearly 40 years since I listened to them. I keep seeing graphic daisies in my minds eye when I think of them.

JayMcGee 10-17-2006 09:04 PM

ah, with you on the daisy graphics, foot3

and Richlevy, a band called strawberry alarm clock is just the sort of thing I'm looking for..... they would be fitting stablemates to 'the electric prunes'

Ibby 10-17-2006 09:07 PM

Strawberry Letter # 23--The Brothers Johnson

What a great song!

Edited to add lyrics, which are really cool:

Hello, my love
I heard a kiss from you
Red magic satin playing near, too

All through the morning rain
I gaze - the sun doesn't shine -
Rainbows and waterfalls run through my mind

In the garden - I see west
Purple shower, bells and tea
Orange birds and river cousins dressed in green

Pretty music I hear - so happy
And loud - blue flower echo
From a cherry cloud

Feel sunshine sparkle pink and blue
Playgrounds will laugh
if you try to ask
Is it cool? Is it cool?

If you arrive and don't see me
I'm going to be with my baby
I am free - flying in her arms, over the sea

Stained window, yellow candy screen
See speakers of kite - with velvet roses diggin' freedom flight

A present from you - Strawberry letter 22
The music plays, I sit in for a few

Ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...

A present from you - Strawberry letter 22
The music plays, I sit in for a few

Ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...ooh...

Thanks, guys, that's quite a good 'crop' there.....

to which I'll add the Rocking Berries (so that I'll remember them when the time comes), and can anyone remember who did 'Little Apples'?

MaryMary 10-18-2006 06:33 PM

Did I miss "Blueberry Hill"?

The song is much older than that. Wasn't written for any movie.

JayMcGee 10-18-2006 07:48 PM

yeah, sorry MaggieL, didn't read your post properly (force of habit :) )...

the song & film I was thinking of was 'Here we go around the Mulberry Bush'

Griff 10-18-2006 08:48 PM

Do you mean Roger Miller's Little Green Apples?

You don't have to steal it, it's been public domain lo these many years.

*Old* song.

Yes, it is a habit. "Here we go 'round..." is every bit as old.

mrnoodle 10-20-2006 12:44 PM

you guys are amazing. I remember some fairly trivial musical stuff, but I've always had a hard time matching tunes with their titles/artists.

No lie, when the band practices and someone yells out the next song, I often have to be reminded which one it is. Even the ones I wrote. In my head, all songs are categorized by riff, not by title or lyric.

Shawnee123 10-20-2006 12:48 PM

How about the theme song from Grape Ape?
Attachment 10017

Edit to ask: does everyone see the little box with a red X, or is it me?

Griff 10-20-2006 12:52 PM

it is you :)
or is it Grape Ape Grape Ape

Shawnee123 10-20-2006 12:53 PM

So if we post a picture ourselves we get the white box/red x, but we can see others pics, and they can see ours? I'm so confused!

Griff 10-20-2006 12:55 PM

Actually you should be able to see it as well.... something is screwy.

Shawnee123 10-20-2006 01:01 PM

OK, here's how I've been doing it (and this has been an ongoing occurence):

I find the pic I want, and save it to my desktop for convenience. I make my post. I go to "manage attachements" I browse for my pic on my desktop. I upload it, then close that window. I go to "attach image" and attach the image (in this case ape.jpg) Then it does this? What am I doing wrong? I am also unable to see the pics I posted of myself in "show yourself" when I could see them, then I couldn't, then I could, now I can't. Help!

Clodfobble 10-20-2006 01:25 PM

I can't see Shawnee's pics either. But I don't think you have to click "attach image" Shawnee, just uploading the image and closing the little window ought to do it.

Flint 10-20-2006 01:35 PM

Yes, you're adding an extra step from what I do.

Shawnee123 10-20-2006 01:50 PM

Test

Thanks you guys...I was doing an extra step.

XM Radio can solve that problem somewhat...there's a display on the reciever that tells you what you're hearing. I have one in my car; commuting has become a musical education.

Flint 10-20-2006 03:35 PM

But I thought you knew everything already (???)

Shawnee123 10-20-2006 03:45 PM

When you hit attach image it screws up. :D
