Massive Waves

These are pictures of the ship that became beached at Newcastle Australia during the wild storms we had down there a few weeks ago.

I think they're incredible. I'm definitely glad I wasn't on that ship!

zippyt 06-24-2007 08:40 PM

Now would it be " come swab the Poop Deck !!'
or " come swab this POOP off the deck !!!!"

This boat is still stuck although it looks like they're going to be able to get it off tonight without any major environmental damage.

Jeboduuza 07-02-2007 04:34 AM

That is scary. Especially the 2nd and 4th pictures. The boat is tiny compared to the, uh, sea.
I'm definitely a primate because I prefer to stay out of the water.

Aliantha 07-02-2007 04:35 AM

yes but the boat is actually massive. I agree, very scarey.

Aliantha 07-02-2007 04:40 AM

A couple of recent ones

When supper time came the old cook came on deck
Saying fellows it's too rough to feed ya
At 7PM a main hatchway caved in
He said fellas it's been good to know ya.

Spexxvet 07-02-2007 08:04 AM

Holy ship!

TheMercenary 07-04-2007 05:20 PM

The last of the series says it all. The ocean is stronger than anything man can build.

Aliantha 07-04-2007 10:58 PM

It's gone now. They've taken it in to port to repair the damage.

Apparently they'll be sending the owners a fairly hefty bill.

I wouldn't like to be the captain of that ship when it finally gets home.

xoxoxoBruce 07-18-2007 09:03 AM

They were praising the Jap owners for coming forth with the announcement they would pay the costs of dragging the ship off the beach and the taxpayers would get off cheap.

I've a feeling they stepped up to the plate, because if they didn't they could loose the whole damn ship to the salver. Maritime salvage law and all that.

kelliekd 07-19-2007 04:34 PM

is this the same boat from the Iotd? Those are scary huge waves in Australia if so.

xoxoxoBruce 07-19-2007 08:41 PM

Yes, huge.
Quote:

The Newcastle Ports Corporation radioed 56 cargo vessels queuing to load coal at 5am yesterday and warned them to move out to sea. Other warnings were issued on Thursday night. All but 11 vessels heeded the call.

There was speculation the ships' captains might have taken a calculated risk that they could ride out the storm.

A spokeswoman for the corporation described the weather as extraordinary. "There is a 17.95 metre swell. We knew the weather that was coming, and they were warned, but there have been issues with [the ships leaving]."

Aliantha 07-22-2007 01:19 AM

I think you're right Bruce. If the bill wasn't paid I would suggest it's almost certain the ship wouldn't be leaving Australian waters.
