Merc, my husband was thinking about buying a boat very similar to the one you have there, but our plans changed and we decided to go for something with a few more mod cons...so that I'd spend more time on it with him. :)

225 4-stroke Yamaha. Purrrrr's... It is so quiet sometimes I have to go back to look as see if it is on. :D We have lots of fun with it.

They are all neat boats! Having been a mermaid in my past life, my mouth is watering (pun intended) at your fun watercraft. Different speeds, different styles, different intentions, but I would have a blast in them all!

In following the news about Muslim uprisings in Niamey, Niger, I came across this pic.
It pleased me in several ways... design, decoration, size, cargo, passengers, etc.

Anyone know what this type of boat would be called ...

Looks like one of the designs for a grande pirogue du Niger (the river).

It looks as though “pirogue” is right, as it is used in the headline
of an octobre 2013 article about the night-time sinking on the Niger
in Mali of a large one with 20 deaths and 23 missing.
The article also uses the word “pinnaces” to describe such boats, smaller in size.

Google tells me the picture is captioned, "A canoe on the Niger River". That's hardly what I'd envision if someone said canoe. A good example of even if you understand the language, you might not get the meaning if you don't know the culture of the speaker. The value of photographs is immeasurable.

Anyway, that "canoe" looks like half the design was dictated by practical needs and half by aesthetics. I suppose it's traditional and may be trying to please certain gods, but it's certainly pleasing to the eye. That's verified by the sheer number of photographs and art prints for sale online, featuring a lone pirogue on the Niger.

I didn't look properly at the posting date of the OT.
I was shocked by how young Ali's boys looked and the husband refs.

Pygmy kayak.

I considered building one, but they were only available in kit form when I was looking. I wanted to build from plans and save a buck or two. They are attractive though.

Overstated. Not very extreme at all. Let's start with seeing how the boat deals with getting hit broadside with a big wave.

It says "our most extreme", not "the most extreme", or, "foot's most extreme"...It may very well have been their most extreme boat evar.

It is beyond doubt the most extreme boat test I've ever seen those guys do, because it's the only boat test I've ever seen those guys do.:D

That was extreme.

And she got a D in the project because she didn't include the bibliography when she turned in her project idea in time for the first project deadline. And the second project deadline where she turned in her forms included a parent form with some handwritten information instead of being completely typed like the instructions required. The teacher was pleased with the final results, but rules are rules.

Hey gotta meet those common core standards. Keep you head down and two hands on the oar.

Teachers suck... it's the law. :lol:
