Dwellar Dwellings

I've loved watching the other Cellar house tours, so I thought I'd add my own to the pile. Kinda goofy, but it works.

Very nice place! Did you clean? It looks clean.

kerosene 01-03-2008 04:56 PM

Choco you have such a cute place! Thank you for doing a tour.

Chocolatl 01-03-2008 04:56 PM

Yeah, I cheated - I've spent most of the week tidying up to get the place video worthy. I even made the bed. Kind of.

Undertoad 01-03-2008 05:24 PM

Well done. It's great to see where people live!

monster 01-03-2008 06:03 PM

Love the view. I never knew people had pet hedgehogs. They're the Brit equavalent of armadillos I guess -exotic to us but roadkill to Florideans...

Aliantha 01-03-2008 07:06 PM

I could live in your house Choco. Very nice. Looks cosy. Thanks for sharing!

DanaC 01-04-2008 03:41 AM

I've known people with pet hedgehogs, though usually a much darker colour than that one.

Choco your home is lovely. I love the layout, it has such a spacious, airy feel to it.

BrianR 01-04-2008 07:46 AM

I'd post one because I'm proud of our house but then there's the possibility of giving a guided tour to thieves as well...

Or am I too paranoid?

glatt 01-04-2008 08:09 AM

Most thieves want what they can stuff into one of your pillowcases in just a minute or two before they get caught. Just don't show where you hide cash, guns, or jewelry, and you will be fine.

I have nothing of any real value in my house, although it would cost a lot to replace the crap I have. I'm going to try to post one of these videos too.

monster 01-04-2008 09:48 AM

there is absolutely no danger of thieves finding anything in my house. When we were burgled in the UK, the police were horrified by the mess. more so when they found out the theives didn't make it.

jester 01-04-2008 10:24 AM

It's a great looking place, well done.

Chocolatl 01-04-2008 05:28 PM

Thanks, everyone!

As for the thieves, I don't think there's much they could get out of the video that they wouldn't find on plain sight. I would maybe stay away from things like "here's our broken window that can be opened from the outside" etc. Originally there was an entire section where I was standing outside and introducing myself, but I felt like it was showing everyone exactly where we lived (apartment number and so on), so I went back and cut it out.

BrianR 01-04-2008 10:07 PM

good point. Maybe I'll post a video of our place next time I get home.
Especially the pit bull you will meet upon entry.

DucksNuts 01-05-2008 05:56 AM

I soooo want a Hedgehog!!!!

Are they friendly Chocolatl??

Lovely house, its great seeing the different styles etc. :)

Chocolatl 01-05-2008 07:48 AM

Some hedgehogs are very friendly and affectionate. Our Bailey is more of a loner -- he prefers to be on his own than to play with people. He's very timid around strangers, and he sleeps all day. If I were to have picked him up in the video, he would've made angry noises with a very groggy face. I'll try to post more of him over in the "Post Your Pet" thread, soon. :)

DanaC 01-05-2008 02:40 PM

Oh he's too bloody cute by half. I just saw the pics and vid of him in Post Your Pet....wonderful. Are the hedgehogs you get over there usually so pale?

He looks a great pet. Seems very inquisitive.

Chocolatl 01-05-2008 04:13 PM

Yeah, I'd say they're all about that color. They vary greatly, though -- some are very, very dark, while others are completely white. They also seem to be smaller than their Brit cousins. If you make fists with both hands and hold them together... Bailey is a little bit smaller than that when he is curled up.

glatt 01-13-2008 10:47 AM

My wife and kids were out for the morning, so I took the time to do a quick tour of the glatt house. Please come in and make yourself at home. The only thing I did to clean was put a suitcase away.

Enjoy.

Undertoad 01-13-2008 11:38 AM

Wow, well done building all that stuff for the place! You have a lot of pride in that and it shows, good job. Nice vid, thanks for sharing!

Clodfobble 01-13-2008 11:48 AM

That bathroom cabinet is awesome. How long did it take you to get it to the point it's at now? I need a cabinet installed in my downstairs bathroom, if you're ever coming to Texas...

classicman 01-13-2008 11:48 AM

Awesome place Glatt. Thanks for the tour.

DanaC 01-13-2008 11:52 AM

That was great! I love seeing these video tours. I really have to get around to borrowing our kid's vidcam

glatt 01-13-2008 11:55 AM

Thanks!

The cabinet took a long time, but only because I'm slow at doing projects sometimes. It should take about oh, 30 hours to do. I think it took me 30 hours over the course of a year.

After I finish tiling the downstairs bathroom in the next month or two, I'm going to finish the upstairs cabinet. Just have to make a face frame and some doors and drawer covers, and then paint it.

classicman 01-13-2008 11:56 AM

Whaat??? Wait a minute! Dana when did you have/get kids?

"Our kid" could mean a younger sibling in British English (especially northern England ...) ...

DanaC 01-13-2008 12:07 PM

limey's right. 'Our Kid' = my brother.

classicman 01-13-2008 12:08 PM

whew - well thanks - I was scouring the boards trying to find THAT thread

Cloud 01-13-2008 12:09 PM

Choco: "this is the spot on the carpet that my butt has worn smooth surfing the Cellar!" Classic!

and I love the black frig!

Cloud 01-13-2008 12:16 PM

Glatt, I enjoyed yours, too! Every bedroom needs a catapult!

You and Choco need to get together and take guitar lessons.

It's like Cellar Cribs!

Chocolatl 01-13-2008 04:34 PM

Glatt, I love the colors in your place -- especially the purple. While I lived with my parents, my mother would never let us paint the walls because according to her it made the house harder to sell. (Nevermind the fact that we planned to continue living in that house for the better part of a decade.)
What a warm looking home. Thanks for sharing!

monster 01-13-2008 05:02 PM

Very nice, Glatt. I'm not letting beest see your shop.....

monster 01-13-2008 05:03 PM

...he'd set me straight to work clearing all the crap out of the basement to make room!

Aliantha 01-13-2008 05:06 PM

That was awesome glatt. I loved your commentary. I wish my husband could build stuff around our house like you do around yours. He's mechanically inept though, and that's a self proclaimed title. All I can say is, lucky he's smart.

Anyway, I loved the tour. Very cool.

Razzmatazz13 01-13-2008 10:53 PM

Choco! You sound so cute! Great Tour!

Our microwave kills our satellite TV when we use it, go figure.

Glatt! Awesome house! I'm jealous, when you moved into your workshop, my jaw literally dropped. My workshop is near the middle of a very, very long list of projects for my dad, so I'm quite envious of yours.

Sundae 01-14-2008 09:22 AM

Wow this is GREAT!
Made my day.

I've gone back and checked them all out as I am at a PC with earphones today. Thanks to everyone who has posted. You all made me laugh at some point, which makes me sound quite mad in the library. I also found myself inter-acting with YouTube which is quite worrying, I forget you can't see out of the other side to see me waving you goodbye.

I loved to see your fridges and cupboards! Now I feel I need to go back and do mine again to include the current themes ;) I'll leave it another 6 months and see what else people show...!

I'm surprised that American freezers are so small, at least in comparison to your fridges. We have an under-counter fridge and an undercounter freezer, so we have the same capacity for both (and it's still too small). My parents have a full size fridge in the kitchen and TWO chest freezers in the shed...

Lovely houses people. More please.
BTW UT, for a non-dog person I have to say I was completely bowled over by Pearl.

kerosene 01-14-2008 10:48 AM

Very nice, Glatt. We have the same toybox thingy (the one in the living room) and the same little plastic primary color kids drawer thingy. Your house looks like a fun place to hang out.

BrianR 01-16-2008 01:25 AM

I'll try to post a tour of our home next month. All five of our furkids will be introduced. Especially the new one, a Weimaraner pup.

Fantastic glatt. Beautiful doors and hardware, and your floors look great (how do you restrain yourself from pulling up the rest of the carpet?). I love the pumpkin dining room too. Great tour - thank you!

glatt 01-16-2008 12:20 PM

Thanks!

We pulled up small areas of carpet in other parts of the house, but the floors aren't as nice in those areas, so we left the carpet. It's a shame, since the floor in the living room is so nice.

The previous owners messed up the floors by gluing parquet style flooring all over it, and then later carpet over that. I keep having to remind myself that the only reason we could afford a house in this neighborhood was because the previous owners messed it up with stuff like that. Dropped the price down into our range.

melidasaur 01-25-2008 09:52 AM

Glatt, we have the same TV stand... IKEA, right?

glatt 01-25-2008 10:02 AM

Yep! We bought it when the kids started to be big enough to crawl around and get into everything. Didn't want them blowing out the speakers on the stereo by messing with the knobs. I like the lockable glass doors. They let the remote signal through, but not the curious little hands.

TheMercenary 01-26-2008 07:49 AM

Well done Glatt. I really enjoyed it. Thanks for letting us in.

Griff 01-26-2008 08:14 AM

Very cool Glatt! That's a really nice shop space. I'm not smart enough to have a first aid kit in mine.

Elspode 02-04-2008 07:08 PM

Well, I've made a really crappy vid of my place, converted it to mpg to get the size within YouTube parameters...but I can't seem to get it to upload. YouTube just sits there and stares at me.

Ideas?

Aliantha 02-04-2008 07:12 PM

My best suggestion is to ask Jimbo. He's the youtube expert around this place isn't he?

monster 02-04-2008 07:14 PM

Blink first and see what it does?

Mine took a long time to upload, maybe it is just a matter of waiting?

Elspode 02-05-2008 10:46 PM

Okay...bad video, long download...so sue me.

I'm worth it...not.

I didn't know so many of your neighbors could see your drunken revelries in the back yard.

classicman 02-05-2008 11:41 PM

Holy crap - Its been downloading for like an hour.
