The Youtube Gong show hosted by lumberjim

I know I said i had retired this user...but 2 of it's posts DID get deleted...leaving me at a uninspiring 9998 posts. AND i need the Mod powers it has in this forum to do what i want to do here. all that said....my point:

Put what you think are good songs from youtube in this thread. If I find them to be worthy, I'll allow them to remain. I may even praise you...If i think they stink....I'll toss them. And probably tease you too. sound like fun? are you thick skinned enough? remember that if i get too out of hand, you can always cry to bruce...or tony or wolf.

I do have pretty eclectic tastes in music, so it's not like they all have to be Led Zeppelin songs. Just put things that you find special or deep....i have a special liking for cover songs by good bands. I'll (LJ)be putting up stuff I like, too...and if you think fairness matters, UT can judge my songs. personally, i'd prefer to be omnipotent about this....but i know how you liberals can be.

oh....jinx made a good point....one song per post....cuz if i like one and not the other....i'll have to make a tough choice.....i dont think i can modify posts with my limited mod powers in here.

after all that, i sure hope i actually have the power to delete or alter posts in this forum....i think i did at one point.....

anyway: first entry:

remember when Dylan was good? you do? you're old

Griff 01-12-2008 08:45 PM

I'll throw one out there.

jinx 01-12-2008 09:19 PM

missing a verse, but still good...

LJ 01-12-2008 09:31 PM

both are worthy. i approve. your scores:

griff: 7

jinx: 7

Clodfobble 01-12-2008 10:12 PM

(Er, please ignore the crappy video sync, and the mostly crappy video for that matter.)

LJ 01-12-2008 10:20 PM

well, i don't hate it.....

but i didn't find it particularly remarkable. I'm gonna give you a 5. but your next one had better be something special, cuz you're on thin ice now.

jinx 01-12-2008 10:24 PM

LJ 01-12-2008 10:27 PM

im groovin'.

another 7 for you.....thanks for your contribution. of course, you could put any thing you wanted in here.....and it'd be fine with me......cuz yer so dreamy.

Well to be fair, my love for it probably has everything to do with the fact that it was a hit my junior year in high school, and my best friend and I listened to it on repeat every day for months while driving to work. It is soaked in enough nostalgia to get me genuinely choked up if I'm in the right mood.

Grateful Dead - Uncle John's Band @ Radio City 10-31-80

I don't know how to link the image and all yet. This was a personal favorite of mine one of my first of hundreds of Dead shows. Many great times, friends and memories - some fuzzy.

Sheesh, your first day in office and you're already trolling for a line item veto.

At least you're not trying to go the 'unitary executive' route.

LJ 01-13-2008 07:07 PM

nice, zippy......you get a 6 for magic carpet ride, and an 8 for little wing.

LJ 01-13-2008 07:22 PM

classic man: see the first post in the 'good music on you tube' thread for instructions on imbeding youtube vids here.

i'll give you a 6 for uncle john's band....cuz that was a bad era for the dead. and a 5 for blue eyes....cuz i hate the who.

but, i wont gong them.

classicman 01-13-2008 07:29 PM

Thanks LJ, I'll try to find another now and see if'n I can post it properly.

jinx 01-13-2008 07:31 PM

LJ 01-13-2008 07:33 PM

regular.joe.....Van the Man looks like hell in that....but he's still groovy, so you get a 5.

John Prine- Big Ole Goofy World

regular.joe 01-14-2008 02:24 PM

NSFW..for all you anti war guys. If one of John Prine is good...two must be better.

classicman 01-14-2008 07:28 PM

Yes - Changes.

A comment from one youtuber - At 1:59 this song turns into the best song I have ever heard in my life. Guitargasm!!!

LJ 01-14-2008 08:15 PM

classicman- 9 for black dog. whole lotta love or since i've been loving you from that show would have scored 10s, btw

zippy....'nother goodun....8...same for carol...that was cool.

joe......you're a little bit country, huh? 6 for both.....they were tolerable, but ....well, tolerable.

gotta get back to work...

regular.joe 01-14-2008 08:30 PM

I have no idea why the video is of these cows in Tokyo, this album has been one of my favs for a long time. All this talk of legal immigration is affecting my taste in music.

zippyt 01-14-2008 08:43 PM

Oh yeah NSFW

regular.joe 01-14-2008 08:50 PM

Zyp....outstanding!

zippy: 7 for your asshole.....song

reg.joe.....sober....niiiice. 9 for you

and a 5 for the beach boys thing.....meh. nice slide guitar...but songs about cars don't thrill me so much.

LJ 01-15-2008 07:08 PM

i think i need some guest judges. i missed two.

LJ 01-15-2008 10:03 PM

i'm gonna move the songs from now on, instead of deleting them. seems a shame to just delete them.

they'll be here if they get gonged.

Undertoad 01-15-2008 10:05 PM

The Hooters, October 1982, The Brandywine Club, Chadds Ford, PA.

I think my college roommate is in the crowd.

lumberjim 01-15-2008 10:07 PM

hmmm...moving them leaves no trace......guess i could quote them first and remove the video....

can we put the artist and song name in the post with the video? if it doesnt ruin a surprise or something? kthxbai

lumberjim 01-15-2008 10:11 PM

aw shit! i posted 10,000! godamnit. i knew this would happen. and im not even drunk yet! fuckfuckfuck!

lumberjim 01-15-2008 10:15 PM

Jacquelita 01-16-2008 06:00 AM

I love her voice

Linda Ronstadt "long long time"

regular.joe 01-16-2008 06:40 AM

Shawnee123 01-16-2008 08:07 AM

Shawnee123 01-16-2008 08:08 AM

Paul Simon (with Chevy Chase) You Can Call Me Al

classicman 01-16-2008 10:01 AM

great one! I love Chevy

Jacquelita 01-16-2008 07:06 PM

Oh man, I love that old song - Mac Davis in his hey day reminds me of a young Patrick Duffy

I think this one is from the same time frame (maybe a little earlier)

Here's what they did before music videos

Freda Payne - Band of Gold

I will find a way to redeem myself

regular.joe 01-16-2008 09:36 PM

regular.joe 01-16-2008 11:27 PM
