Wanna Play Scrabble?
1 Attachment(s)
Seems I'm not the only Word Nerd on here after all. Nothing online and fancy -this is how I used to play online before facebook and all the other sites hasbro shut down. They can't object to this 'cause we're using a real set! ;)
I have a set here. I draw the tiles. We all play with the same tiles. Highest scoring word is played -the person who suggests it first gets the points. Post your attempt in this thread (word, starting position and direction), no edits after the next person has posted, one attempt per player per turn. Turns are 24 hours (minimum), 48 maximum (ish -I do it when I get to it). I will not post my turn until 16 hours minimum. We will use both the UK and US Scrabble dictionaries (SOWPODS). I'm the boss when it comes to disputes. :p I take no responsibility if the letters are crap :p Using cheat programs is fine by me if it's fine by you. I don't, but I don't expect to win either, and it's set up so I can lose without losing face ;) Oh, and appreciate the loved-ness of the tea-stained, warped, Brit Scrabble board that beest and I got as a present our first Christmas together. Aaaaaw ;) I do have a newer yank one, but meh, I like this one. :D so without further ado, letters for the first turn are: ACEGNRU, turn must cover the star in middle which is a double word score. |
several phony bingos here...be sure to post a challenge if you think someone's word is BS -they don't get another go and you may find a variation that gets you the points. plus it's fun ;)
|
CRAG
|
GRACE - horizontal starting on the double letter score ending on the middle.
|
So far, Jinx has it with 20...
|
oh, extra thing.....
later on when/if we get a core of regular players, we might move on early if enough agree current winner is unbeatable and all time zones are represented (this can help shift the new turn time so other time zones get first shot, as well as speed up the game). |
UNGRACE
I've heard Christian philosophers use it, opposite of being in a state of grace is being in a state of ungrace. Positioned so the C falls on the double letter score. EDIT: Vertical, please. No real reason. |
CHALLENGE!!
Y'know, because I can. And because Christian philosophers make up words all the damn time--I've heard it used too, but that doesn't mean the Scrabble dictionary agrees with them. |
how about UNCAGE starting with the U in the center square, G on the DL for 22 points
wonder if UNCAGER is a word......someone who uncages would be an uncager..... i think i'll risk it..... put me down for 74 points |
OK,
neither UNGRACE or UNCAGER are acceptable. GRACE was also my best shot. or UNCAGE or CRANE which also score 20. I'd've probably picked crane to keep the U and G, but Jinx spoke out first.... I'll give it a few more hours, I might not wait until midnight because I'm an evil rule-breaker. :D |
isnt uncage worth 22?
|
ms monstah, I just love the piccie! made me laugh

just came back to the thread to agree you were right
clearly having a brian fart day. Ah well. I wonder if anyone who hasn't yet played will suggest that as their turn? There is a 24, too, but I only found that by cheating after I'd decided I couldn't improve on 20. |
I think it's a shame this is the first turn and there are no Ts available. I'd've loved to have suggested CUNTRAGE.
|
You know, I think we should go with Jinx's and move on already. All in favor?
|
sure

I'll take that as a majority ;)
here's proof that I don't manipulate the draw: Turn 2: AIINOU_ where _ is a blank what fun. have at it! Oh, and the 24 was CANGUE |
GUANO descending from the G, double word score: 12 points.
I'd like to save the blank. You know, we still could make UNGRACE, but it would only be worth 10 points rather than the 76 I was ROBBED of earlier!!! [sulk sulk sulk] ;) |
MIAOUING, starting on D1, vertically down to the G of GRACE. 66, I believe. :)
|
I'm assuming that's the British version of "meowing?"
|
both versions are acceptable in both countries :) it's also well known as an excellent vowel dump

You're all pissed off with me now, arent you? Am in a hurry, I'll do the pictorial update later, but here's the rack for round 3 to be thinking about:
|

AEEIQWY |

|

Now I'm back. When is my 16 hours up? :D |
lets go with the real pic, monster...i dont get point values from that computer version.
|
i know you said not to blame you for the letters....but christ....these are crap letters!

yes, 32. best I came up with so far..... although you can also spell it with an E which might leave a better rack I think it's too early in the game to be doing really sneaky stuff with that q, and I can't recall a whole lot of words with Q and W. but I'm going to keep on trying. I'll run the cheat once I've decided on my final play -I hope it has something really tricky in store.... :D |

nope, can't improve on that....
Rack 4: AEEIUW_ |
Are place names allowed?
|
no. unless you mean like lounge, floor, kitchen.......
|
So "Weimar" as in the city or the republic? Is right out?
|
yup. 'fraid so
|
and it wouldn't have score very much because the m is a blank, although 21 is better than a poke in the eye with a sharp stick.
|
WISE (blank for S) also forming QUAYS
any other takers? 26 points |
Nah, I was gonna say SWIM up top there, but its only 24 or something...

I should have scribbled the m on a different color paper!
|
ohhh.. duh

|
I like it dirty ;)
|
I do appreciate the green board in that though -the one I found has the American beige
(......nooooo! don't cross the cultures!) |
ZEES down from the triple word.
50 points |
that's what I saw. I've dropped one of the tiles on the floor now. damn. biab
|

ACNPRTU
Jinx 20 monster 92 lumberjim 32 Happy Monkey 50 |
CRAMP, horizontally in the top left corner, 24 points.
And we could still make UNGRACE, you know. ;) |
oh damn I can't take my turn yet. I got more, though :D
|
by the way, the scrabble cheat program couldn't top ZEES either. Can't wait to see what it can do for this one....but I'm holding off, just in case I have further inspiration the natural way....
|
TRIAC horizontally from B2 -26.
any more? |
that would ruin the triple.....dont do it.
