Grifftopian Dwelling

Okay this is my first go around with video so bear with me. It's a lot darker than the original since I had to compress the thing.

xoxoxoBruce 01-26-2008 02:44 PM

Excellent! Ever count the backpacks in the house?

Griff 01-26-2008 02:52 PM

Since they all have a place to be hung up, I'll check... I guess there is one backpack in the house. ;)

glatt 01-26-2008 03:03 PM

Excellent!

Wow, Griff, Grifftopia is even nicer than I imagined. I knew it must be a cool place from the handful of pictures I had already seen, but it is very impressive.

Elspode 01-26-2008 03:12 PM

Dude...your place radiates *amazing* energy, even through a damn video. Your entire life seems to exude this sense of peace and groundedness. I'm actually taken somewhat aback.

You are a blessed man.

Griff 01-26-2008 03:52 PM

You guys really know how to touch me. Thank you so much. Spode you're doing my eulogy; your word-smithing is remarkable.

Chocolatl 01-26-2008 04:52 PM

Your home seems so wonderfully warm and inviting -- the type of place I've always dreamed of having. I'm very impressed with all of the work you've put in to it -- how long has this project taken?

zippyt 01-26-2008 04:56 PM

Grifftopia looks Cool , Good job !!!!

monster 01-26-2008 05:12 PM

I reckon he's just working up to spamming us with goat milk soap for sale ;)

Lovely place, Griff. :D

Clodfobble 01-26-2008 05:34 PM

Very cool, Griff! Does Pete sell that soap, or is that purely for you guys to use?

seakdivers 01-26-2008 05:59 PM

Cool!! I love your house!! I want to see your yard in the spring & summer too.

Griff 01-26-2008 06:39 PM

I built the shed in '97 and started cutting trees for the frame in '98. I managed to raise two junior dwellars and get my Masters done as well; it's been a long strange trip. I've been biding my time to spring the Cellar Soap line on you guys, UT is in on this clever "community" marketing scam. We figure to pull down upwards of one figure if we play our cards right.

Undertoad 01-26-2008 08:13 PM

Great seeing it all, and great hearing you, too!

It seems like the right thing, to have a glorious mess in the middle of nowhere northern PA. It seems like if it were kept neat it would be a mistake. Kids are none the worse for it and the downstairs part is neat enough to move around.

I must say the skis by the doorway are nostalgic for me. My mom's side of the family grew up in northern New Hampshire, and although my grandfather was too old by the time we were visiting, there were a few people who would ski around, and the end of the day scene could be much like that. A snowy house in the woods, skis by the door, fireplace roaring.

lumberjim 01-27-2008 12:02 AM

soooo cool.

the girls beds are like the Ingalls'! do they wear white bonnets to sleep?

I think you should let us know when you're going on vacation, so we can house sit for you.

Griff 01-27-2008 06:53 AM

Cellar Time Shares

Thank you gents! Maybe there should be a Cellar vacation house swap, of course somebody has to milk Tinker.

Elspode 01-27-2008 12:11 PM

You want to watch that whole Cellar swap suggestion, there, Griff. With our crowd, it won't be long until we've gotten down to cars and wives.

Griff 01-27-2008 01:29 PM

I might car swap with Bruce, but the other might cramp my zen.

Griff your place is awesome - reminds me of a place in Lackawaxin. Absolutely beautiful.

Griff 01-29-2008 04:45 PM

Thanks cm. I know I should know where Lackawaxin is but I'm gonna google.

awesome sir. great work you've done there and a great job showing it. thanks.

slang 02-05-2008 02:45 PM

Very cool Griff.

Do you ever put lipstick on the goats? Just curious.

Griff 02-05-2008 04:15 PM

just wigs... I kinda like 'em natural.

xoxoxoBruce 02-05-2008 04:19 PM

No pulling their teats with gloves on?

TheMercenary 02-05-2008 04:57 PM

Beautiful place Griff. And what a beautiful family as well. How big is the property you live on? I dream of building my own home someday. And I have always want to live in a post and beam home too. Lovely. Thanks for sharing.

(takes note)

Good idea. I'll look around for a wig here.

Griff 02-05-2008 06:13 PM

Thanks man. We're on a fifty acre piece surrounded by game lands and family property. If you ever have any process questions about post and beam pop me an PM.

Griff, I didn't know if I should start a new thread or put this in here, but you really should consider building a goat tower for Grifftopia. I can completely picture this in my minds eye at your place.

limey 06-12-2009 02:28 PM

Glatt - thanks everso for bumping this thread - I missed it first time round.
Griff - what a marvellous house, what a great place for your kids (all of 'em!) to grow up!
Amazing!

Juniper 06-12-2009 02:45 PM

Very nice house, Griff! So cozy and old-fashioned. Looks like a pioneer cabin, with all the modern amenties. I bet the kids love that loft.

Maybe one of these days I'll show you mine. It's not nearly as picturesque, but we kinda like it.

skysidhe 06-12-2009 04:28 PM

All your work is amazing. I liked your fireplace and the bedroom placement and how cool to have a step ladder up to the attic bedrooms.
As a former country girl I loved every second of your video. You seem like a cool person too smart and with a sense of humor. Oh and mrs. Griff makes soap. I've thought of making soaps myself a time or too or candles. Seems like fun.

glatt 06-12-2009 04:48 PM

well, if we're resurrecting house tours, there's this thread, and UT did one a while ago too.

Griff 06-12-2009 09:36 PM

I'm thinking my goats may not be bright enough for such an OSHA flip off dwelling. Very cool concept though, I'm sposda be building another goat shed for expansion, so I'll trouble you not to put any ideas in Pete's head about suitable dwellings. :) Thank you all for the kind words, it has been quite an experience for us.

Sounds like more work than you have time for. Better stick to a simple plan...

like this.

ZenGum 06-13-2009 07:16 AM

Monorail goat .... delayed at the station.

capnhowdy 06-14-2009 07:15 AM

Great job Griff! Looks really secluded, too. Which is top of my list for my dream home. You're a really fortunate guy.

@Glatt: thanks for reminding me of the other thread.

ZenGum 06-14-2009 07:44 AM

I'd live in that spiral goat tower myself (for a few days until the novelty wore off and I realised how bloody stupid and impractical it was).

monster 06-14-2009 09:57 AM

yeah, but we all know you're twisted

True words. I work among the humans all day, it is nice to get away.

but at least you'd be among goats...

warch 06-15-2009 07:26 PM

being such a sporadic lurker, absent cellarite these days I'm glad this got bumped! great tour! I think I last saw some stills of the kitchen under construction.

And its cool to hear and see the Griffs! I'm diggin' the dairy productions. Any new work on the sunroom? :) Cheers!

Griff 06-15-2009 08:15 PM

Actually, we're thinking of doing "something completely different." That something is in the que behind another goat shed, my summer SpEd gig, my new Sp Ed responsibilities in the Fall, and continuing ed for further responsibilities. We may have another dairy goat or two in the offing, which will give Pete something to do if the economy keeps contracting. Please excuse me for now, I have someone to bottle feed.

warch 06-15-2009 08:44 PM

Cesca! so cute. love the goatherd. Have fun!

Shawnee123 06-15-2009 08:48 PM

If Frannie Cesca ever wants to visit Ohio, I'm in! She is so damn cute.

ZenGum 06-15-2009 09:09 PM

Goatherd? Just think, your grandson could be president.
