as seen on tv
ever buy a gizmo that actually worked?
I got that paint roller syringe thing and was pleased... im seeing a razor sharpener now...wondering if it actually works. i sold that Ab blaster gadget at a garage sale though....for a major loss |
Magic Bullet...piece of shit, but sold well on ebay.
|
I bought a Super Slicer kitchen mandolin thing years ago. What a piece of total crap. Very dull blade. I'll never buy anything from TV again. At least it was only a $30 lesson.
|
The only ASOTV product that I use is Rain-X. Works well for me.
If you wish to try something, try here. |

oxyclean isn't bad.
|
I believe it was wolf who had good things to say about those space bags that you suck out with your vacuum cleaner in reverse. I believe they are available in stores now, as are oxyclean and rain-x. I believe if a product is any good it will be in stores where it will get repeat sales without being advertised.
Somebody gave me one of those flat/expanding whisk things - "It's a spatula! And a whisk! And tongs! Look it conforms to the shape of your food!" Well what a piece of crap. You *could* use it as the worst spatula ever, but you'd just use a spatula. You *could* use it as the worst tongs ever, but because they conform to the shape of your food, they obviously aren't very strong, and therefore can't pick up anything heavy. And as a whisk: completely useless. |
We have one of those things, UT. The only thing it's good for is picking up things that must be picked up very, very gently. Pulling certain bread products up off the baking pan, for example. But yes, for the most part, completely useless.
Along those lines, my old credit card company used to offer me crap products in every single bill--"just send in this flyer and pay only $4.95 S&H for your complimentary gift item!" I succumbed to buying only one of them, a little socket wrench set. The case is so cheap it makes the whole thing look like a toy... but actually, it gets the job done, and amazingly it has survived semi-regular use even to this day. |
I have been very tempted to buy a piece of exercise equipment called The Fluidity Bar advertised on tv. Essentially a portable barre for doing certain methods of strength training, like Callanetics or Lotte Berke method.
Haven't though. It's not cheap, and I get the job done with my present equipment. Still, it does look interesting . . . bought a cold solder device as a gift, upon request. not sure how it panned out. lots of QVC & other home shopping stuff, most of it decent, but I don't think that's exactly what you're talking about. the ab thingy that's basically a wheel with handles on either side does work well. But you can do the same thing with an exercise ball, which is far more versatile. |

I bought the OneTouch Can Opener about 6 months ago. It's great at opening my canned foods, but it only works a dozen or so times on batteries, and it's very difficult to open to replace them.
|
I have Ginsu Knives.
|
Are they crap?
I have some Cutco knives... some are crap, most are awesome. I highly recommend Proactive. |
They've stood up well.
|
Is proactive only good if you suffer from acne, Jinx?
Like, I have heard its actually great for your skin as well as helping with acne. I dont get acne at all, but I am searching for the wonder moisturiser. |
I bought the Torso Tiger a long time ago... piece of junk.
I bought the Ronco Rotisserie off the TV (before it was in the stores) and I really liked it. It does work well and makes very good meat. It's novelty wore off and it didn't get used anymore. I think it was sold at a garage sale or given away in one of the Saur Family Give-aways. Mr. Saur and I always gave away door prizes (ie crap we didn't want anymore) when we had parties. I've been to an As Seen on TV store and was extremely tempted by a lot of crap - including the FloBee (aka the suck cut), the Turbo Cooker, Citrus Express and a variety of other misc. crap. Oh, I bought a Bender Ball too... it's okay. Haven't seen much recently that looks good to me. |

I have the whisk/spatula/tongs thing. It works okay as a whisk, but not as well as an actual whisk. Frustrating as tongs. I haven't tried to use it as a spatula.
|
we had the whisk/spatula thing too. not so good.
I got the Perfect Pushup too. They work fine and do give a great "different" burn than a normal pushup, but I rarely use them. I got a set of playing card holders for lil lookout, too. Those are awesome. We play Uno a lot and he has a hard time holding his cards so he can see them all. the holders fan them out and work just great for him. As you may have guessed, there is a As Seen On TV store right by the mall entrance i use. |

yeah, i do change it up with all that kind of stuff, but i figured for $20, it might be fun. like i said, it works ok.
|
I got the GT Express 101 - It sucked so bad. It was supposed to be non-stick after seasoning it. I followed the directions and it still wasn't. I used it a couple more times, making sure I put butter on it or rubbed it with olive oil. Then I noticed that the non-stick "coating" was bubbling up and coming off in places. Last time I used that. It is not fodder for Goodwill.

Cold Heat is a bad, bad joke. Barely melts solder, definitely doesn't keep anything hot enough to actually solder it together, though.
Ginsus are pretty good. I've got several. I use them all the time and have for years, even the one that I used to cut a soda can open the day I got it just to see if it could be done without damaging it. It damaged it, but damn if it didn't keep cutting just fine for years. Think I've still got it. |

My old roommate had the Miracle Blade 3 knife set. They actually worked pretty good. Never tried to cut any metal or frozen items, so I don't know about that part. |
My wife bought a Fluidity exercise gadget that works well for her...if only I could get rid of the "chemical" smell that came with it. (Anyone have any suggestions about that?) Seems durable and is easy for her to use. takes up more room than I thought it would.
My daughter gave me a Magic Bullet for Christmas that is very handy and easy to use for light jobs, like breakfast for myself. My original George Foreman grill was a TV purchase. After twice-a-week use for six or seven years, I finally replaced it about six months ago. I don't like the new, much more expensive one, nearly as well. |
Welcome to the Cellar, Forty Rod.:D
Have you tried leaving that Fluidity thingy, out in the sun for a bit? |
|
A sales man is the BIGGGGGEST sucker there is !!!
|
sucker?
i bet the fucking thing works. dont you hate trying to open those goddamned plastic packages? im not about to mail order it, but if i see it in the grocery store isle, it's coming home with me |
You're kidding right Jimbo? Surely a knife or scissors work just as well?
|

Get a pair of these , you can cut open those sealed plastic pacs , and Lots of different stuff , hell you can cut a penny if half with them !!! |

|
|
Beat that BIG BOY !!
|
that was cool
...uh huh huh |
If you cut the penny in a spiral, you can use it as a corkscrew. It's not the best and you may get some cork crumbs in the wine, but if you just can't find the corkscrew...
|
now you have two ha'pennies
|
well played zip.
|
I say it was 'shopped. We didn't actually see the cutting happen. For all we know, he used a rotary tool or something.
