Feb 29th -a holiday?
Should we have to work tomorrow? I think this article on the BBC website makes a fair point. It's an extra day. Why should those who are salaried -rather than paid hourly- be expected to work? If they added a few minutes to each day instead of adding one day every four years, we'd expect those minutes to be freetime rather than part of the work day, wouldn't we?
Does anybody here who would normally work on a Friday get the day off tomorrow? Or a bonus for working? |
The only reason you can have the day off is if you're a girl intending to propose to her boyfriend.
|
Besides, that article is bullshit. IMO. :)
If you're salaried and your salary is on a per annum basis, I doubt you'd find any contract which stipulates how many days in a year that covers. You're still working your normal hours per week. It's not like they added an extra day with a whole new name or anything. Anyway, you could view it from the other side too where the employer is getting ripped off a day for every year which doesn't happen to be a leap year. ;) |
What's a contract?
|
The 366-day-year is the exception, 365 is the norm. Agreements are generally viewed to be based on the norm. If it was split up into minutes per day, would you find it reasonable that those minutes were added into your working day?
You're just crabby because you haven't had enough to eat and no alcohol :p |
everyone works a few minutes extra anyway don't they?
I personally wouldn't have even thought of complaining about it, although if I did have a job, I might spend the day bitching at my boss about getting a free day just for the fun of it. :) I've had plenty to eat. Definitely no alcohol though, and I think that's good anyway. I'm not crabby. |
neither would I -I don't get paid to work, it's a tongue-in-cheek sort of a topic, hon. The sort of subtlety you miss when dying for a choccy and a nice glass of wine :p
:lobstah: :lobstah: :lobstah: :lobstah: :lobstah: <-sorta like crabs..... |

WOW, I never thought of that. I'm not going to work in the morning. And Lil Lookout isn't going to school. Spring training started today, maybe we'll catch a game.
|
its the last day of the month. it's sacred. it's an extra day to make deals. I can't wait to get back to work!
NOT |
does the last day make any difference for you guys there? our store actually changed our pay and production cycles so they wouldn't line up with the eom.
|
everyone works bell to bell.....some of the salesmen are a deal or two away for bonus, or the next level....so there is a definite buzz all day long. it's building all month, and rises to a crescendo on the last day.....drop in at about 7 pm tonight, and you'll feel like you're in the concourse of a sporting event.
When it gets humming like it does on Saturday afternoons, the customers tend to buy more readily. business breeds business. I think people see other customers around them buying cars, and are more likely to go ahead and take that new car home......just like the Joneses over at the next table are doing. |
yeah, i remember days like that. strangely i never did well on days like that. i'd rather piss someone off and toss them out if they felt like a mini, I got fewer deals than other guys but I outgrossed everyone nearly every month. I remember our "top" salesman got so pissed off and stormed off when he saw the paysheets and realized i made double what he did for selling half the cars. he'd sell 30+ cars every month but they were all minis.
i loved monday and tuesday mornings. that's when my crowd came in - the 50 and up folks with F.U. money. |
Of course Feb. 29th is a holiday!
It's my birthday! :) |

Happy Belated Birthday Bri :D:D:D
Hope you had a great day. |
Dinner was fabulous and we all laughed like crazy women and had fun. I had my usual favorite dinner (this is the Midwest so, you know, it was meat and potatoes!) and got nice presents (an evil eye amulet, 100 bux, perfume, etc) and many phone calls from old friends I hadn't heard from in years. Seems they all recall me on Feb. 29th! Isn't that weird? One old high school friend said, "everytime I hear Fleetwood Mac on the radio I think of you!"
Everytime I hear Bob Seger, I think of her! I'm gonna start a new thread.... |
