Man caves
ugh. Only worse term is "manctuary."
But--cool idea if you're not the smoking jacket and den type. They had a tv show about 'em--but they only redid one cave that I could see and kept rerunning that show. Anyway, here are some pics. You guys got one to share? http://www.ireport.com/ir-topic-stor...a?topicId=5282 |
Cloud I'm not being a hater here. And I'm not criticising your thread.
But seriously: Quote:

Please don't let my grumpy attitude stop any Dwellar posting their Man Cave/ Manctuary. Cellar men are real men, so I expect they're worth seeing rather than self indulgent hidey holes :) |
women have them/want them, too, SG. Sometimes it's the living room or kitchen. If they're lucky they have a "craft" or "sewing" room.
Everyone needs room for their hobbies. |
You could say the garage is Mr. Clod's man-cave, I guess, in that it's full of all his tools and crap, and I pretty much avoid going out there unless there's a truly dire need. But he honestly doesn't go out there much, either. Certainly not to relax.
|
put a tv and a beer frig in there and he's good to go.
|
I'm probably coming at this the wrong way because British houses are so much smaller. A man who insists on a hobby room here would usually be taking space meant as a dining room, a study, a garage or a bedroom.
As you were :) |
My man cave consists of about 10 square feet of the top of my computer desk, and four square feet of night table by my bed. The rest belongs to the Mrs. :-)
|
and hey--you can all put compact flourescent lights in them!
|
My husband has a computer, stereo and beer fridge in our garage, if there was a bathroom and a bed, he'd live there
|
ya know why women's feet are smaller than men's? so they can stand closer to the stove.
|
we have an adult cave. it's co ed.
|
It's dark, dank and nasty and I spent most of my time here. Internet, cable TV, beverage*, etc**. The lights dim and I aim at foes in Battlefield 2. Sometimes the girls are watching American Idol or something like that and I resort to headphones.
*beverages from greater to lesser probability: ice water, ice water with a little lemon and sugar, fresh ground/brewed coffee, milk, beer, vodak drink, wine, tea, orange juice **phone charger, fan, candle, bookcases, dog bowls, dead electronics, obsolete live electronics, DVDs, dank, and nasty. |
I don't need one. I don't have to be in a different room to be on a different planet.
(I've heard "man cave"--dopy. "Manctuary" is just ridiculous.) |

Good. At least now I know I'm not the only one. |
I rent a 5 room house with 2200 square feet. the rear right room is my Man cave. No, it's not a bad term, it's an excellent term.
No estrogen allowed. My mac, my books, my gear, gadgets, and weird projects. My space. The only room in the house that Houshold Six can't tell me how to keep. |
My son-in-law needs one. It's him and five females. But their house is too small. Maybe I'll suggest the garage, but it gets awfully hot in there in the summer!
|
My dad retired last year, earlier than he wanted to even though he's 69 years old (some of you may remember that awful story) so he spends a lot of time in his man cave. He put a shop on the back of the garage some years ago, and is currently making things out of the old timey barn wood from my brother's old barn. If not for that out of the house place, my mom might have killed him months ago. :)
My brother, in the meantime, had a nice new barn built and has already hosted man parties (poker, beer, you know) and I believe as the only man in the house of a wife and three young girls he will learn to lean on his man cave even more in the coming years. |

Yeah, he's done some interesting work. I say "Dad, you're an artiste!"
|
I think everyone needs a sanctuary, man or women.
Coincidentally, that tv show was on last night with an episode I had not seen. The host is still a jerk. |

Everyone needs some space. Best Beloved and I are frequently in different rooms in the house but I couldn't say one is specifically his or my room - it depends on what we're doing. We're lucky enough to have enough space to watchTV/surf the 'nets/sit comfy and quiet and read or listen to music without disturbing each other.

I have an office (12x12ish) , and supposedly a garage(12x20ish) but the garage is where Carol stores her gardening stuff , her painting stuff , etc,,,,,, She has a room 14x20ish and a shed 14 x24ish , her room is full of doll stuff , and her shed is so full that you have to know witch door to open to find the path thru the stuff !!!
But My office is MY room , ( even though she has All her fileing and papers in here, mostly all over the floor since the first of the year ) |
A friend made this short video to celebrate his girlfriend's parent's 50th anniversary. Note where they go at the end.
|
cute. but that could be another house altogether.
I have a gurlcave. arrgh! no, wait . . . that doesn't scan! |
Ummm....so, tell me about your gurlcave?
|
my whole house is a gurlcave, I guess. don't need a sanctuary from myself.
. . . or do I? ;) |
