SteveDallas gift suggestions

I have an Amazon gift certificate burning a hole in my pocket. I'm not sure what to get with it. Make a suggestion. Ideal suggestions would be something you think I might like but wouldn't think of. What I actually expect will be sarcastic, smartass suggestions, hence some amusement value.

Price range: US$30-$50. Knock yourselves out.

lumberjim 06-09-2008 12:09 PM

I'd keep your options open and just buy yourself a gift card with it.

monster 06-09-2008 12:10 PM

When I was given an Amazon Cert I got myself an MP3 player. But you're probably not as far behind the times as I am and so already have one.

get a remote control dragonfly :D

SteveDallas 06-09-2008 12:14 PM

I swear, when I posted this I didn't know the Amazon web site was down!

glatt 06-09-2008 12:25 PM

A magnifying glass for burning ants this summer. Get one with super bright LEDs.

A Leatherman Squirt E4. Toolbox on a key chain.

Lost Cities, a fun card game.

lumberjim 06-09-2008 12:28 PM

i've had 3 of those squirts, and 2 or 3 leatherman micras. i always have it in my left pocket. I get a new one each year. this year I'm getting this one. I'ts moar bettar.

Cloud 06-09-2008 12:29 PM

down? wtf you talking about buddy? Amazon is always up, up, up!

Books, movies, and music--that's a no-brainer.

Things I've bought from Amazon recently: vitamins, a tire gauge and steering wheel cover for my car, a swimsuit, kid's toys, a watch, pet stuff, an ipod, lube, office supplies, software. And books, movies, and music galore!

ETA: I inspired a new title for myself

The most awesome mechanical clock in the world!

Cloud 06-09-2008 12:47 PM

glatt, I ordered that card game on your recommendation. Will give it to Granddaughter No. 1 for her birthday. Better be fun!

eta: okay, now it does look like the site is having problems. :(

It's the gift that keeps on giving!

glatt 06-09-2008 01:10 PM

How old is granddaughter number 1?

I was recommending it for SteveDallas, who is an adult. It's recommended for 10 and up, but a younger child could play with assistance.

Cloud 06-09-2008 01:14 PM

She will be 11. Is that okay for the game?

glatt 06-09-2008 01:31 PM

Should be fine.

Cloud 06-09-2008 10:21 PM

so what're you going to get? huh? huh?

(jumps up and down)

Ow!

('cause she's jumping up and down!)

monster 06-09-2008 10:24 PM

How about some nice Uranium Ore? or Stink Bombs (you can get several packs of these -bargain!). Or maybe the slightly more expensive, but undoubtedly more classy Liquid Ass spray? or before we move away from the derriere... This. OK moving on.... some French Vanilla Goat Whey? That'll about wipe you out, though. Maybe a Sexy Diva leather choker in a larger plus size?

Cloud 06-09-2008 10:41 PM

er . . . I kinda like that choker.

monster 06-09-2008 10:48 PM

Buy it then, you shopaholic! I didn't say it was nasty.... i was just exploring options Sieve might not have considered....

Cloud 06-09-2008 10:50 PM

(primly) "possessions are a prison"

and, gee . . . Amazon is having problems, isn't it? ;)

how are you enjoying the bars, Ms Recently-I-bought-Everything-but-the-kitchen-sink-from-amazon-and-that's-only-because-I-got-a-steal-on-a-five-sink-deal-on-ebay? ;)

Cloud 06-09-2008 11:21 PM

(rattles the cage) let me oooout! I'm having shopping withdrawals!

seriously, I like buying from Amazon, because
--they often have the best price around
--I can get it fast, because I ponied up the annual $75 fee for Prime
--they have an ever-expanding variety, and it's easy to see what the best items are because of the reviews

dar512 06-10-2008 09:26 AM

If you barbecue, one of these might be fun.

I thought this would be a thread where *you* give *us* gift ideas. I was going to ask what I should get my dad and father-in-law for Fathers Day.

SteveDallas 06-11-2008 10:01 AM

Umm, well tell me more and I'll see what I can do! My wife always complains that she doesn't know what to get me, and to add insult to injury, my birthday, Father's Day, and our anniversary are less than a month apart.

I'm seriously considering the Leatherman idea. I had one of the small ones with the scissors years ago, and it walked off when I left it lying on a table.

I like the Squirt E4 because it has the needle nose pliers at the tip, various gauge wire strippers in the middle, and wire cutters next to the fulcrum. Plus all the other stuff too.

Other models have the scissors, or the slightly larger pliers.

Shawnee123 06-11-2008 10:13 AM

Yeah, what do I get my dad, who has everything? They say "just a card is nice" but I try to find some strange toolish implement for his shop...though he has every tool known to man.

HungLikeJesus 06-11-2008 10:34 AM

My wife got her father a one-year subscription to Netflix. In the past she's gotten him steaks from Omaha Steak. I think she tried to get him a beer of the month club, but they couldn't deliver to Michigan.

Shawnee123 06-11-2008 10:35 AM

My dad would like the beer of the month club, if the beer is bud light every month. ;)

Omaha steaks might not be a bad idea. Or, I could make my famous chicken-kebabs and cook them on the grill that day for my family...but my mom loves to cook sunday dinner.
