I'd guess that it's got to do with the fact that in NZ there's two fairly clear groups. The ones who go to church, and the ones who don't. If you go to church you don't get piercings and you don't fuck around. If you don't go to church, you can do pretty much whatever you like till your mother catches you. (This is my perspective of the islander population moreso than the white population though)

The beach v-ball players are very fit, but generally (the above is the exception) don't have much in the chest department and/or are very tall.

also one thinks they may be hyper-competitive which is not good for a relationship
