Toronto is AMAZING. I love it. I'd vote for there.
|
ok...........bu cumon gimme more than that why toronto, lots of jobs, lots of fun lots to do????
|
beautiful, clean, friendy, tons to do - and did I mention friendly? I like friendly places. went to Virginia Beach and though nice place the people were horrid, mean, douche-bags; as far as jobs go...I dunno. google some toronto web cams...get a feel for it.
from wiki: Because of the city's low crime rates, clean environment, high standard of living, and friendlier attitudes to diversity, Toronto is consistently rated as one of the world's most livable cities by the Economist Intelligence Unit[14] and the Mercer Quality of Living Survey.[15] |

Toronto was very congested when I was there a couple years ago, and I didn't really enjoy it. But it was Canadian Thanksgiving weekend, so maybe it isn't always like that. And if you are getting around on foot, I bet it would be different.
I was in Vancouver many years ago and absolutely loved it. The Canadian Rockies are spectacular too. If I was young and had a summer to kill, that's where I would try to spend my time. I don't know how easy it is to get a summer job in a resort in Banff, but that would be my angle. |
...on the road to Shambhala
|
A woman I used to work with, whose dad is straight from Ireland, is from Montreal.
I would love Montreal. But I like frenchies. |
It's an awesome town, but they're bitchy in Montreal unless you speak the language correctly.
|
I can say Mon-rey-al, and Je voudrais une biere, s'il vous plait.
I'm used to bitchy, anyway. ;) I took two years of French in HS and two quarters in college. My college prof said I should speak up in class more because I had a good grasp of pronunciation. I would have to take a crash course in actual words, though. |
Okay. It's me again. Why do I always have to be the baddie?
Oh, because I'm some sort of Nazi, gotcha. Muffin? Any chance you could type full words please? Capitals are optional (not in my book, but I have been advised so). To answer the question - I'd definitely go to America instead. But then that's probably biased by my 4 years on this board! For me there's more to see, at least more that I have read about (away from here) and seen in films and on TV. There are some states with a legal age of 18... I think! Canada, can't help you with, sorry. |
If you're looking to escape the rain, the Pacific Northwest is probably not the best vacation climate. As far as drinking underage in the US, there's plenty of underage drinkers here, not hard to get away with in a private, closed environment like an of-age friend's house. Also take a look at this: There is not a hard 21 or nothing rule in America, conditions and exceptions vary by stateIf I were you, I would hook up with someone you already know in America and go from there.

The Eastern Maritime is not much better for the pure weather factor.
|
You should just come to OZ muffin. It's nice and warm here no matter when you come.
|
And if you were here now you would have no problem with "summer rain". Frankly, I don't believe such a thing exists. ;)
|
I LOVE summer rain...and thunderstorms.
It makes you feel alive. |
Purple Rain?

This is a confusing statement. You are looking at Toronto (Ontario) or 3000miles WEST of there to the Vancouver (BC) area? Or both?? If you are looking to work, I would suggest a larger city, if you are looking to have a holiday, I would suggest a smaller city perhaps. What do you expect to gain for the experience? Are you looking for a relaxing area, to meet new people, see the sights, and enjoy the summer, or are you looking for a city to entertain you, stay busy, spend lots of money etc... Also where are you going to stay: rent? hotel? friends already in these 2 cities? camp? You will have to take into account the rental vacancies, which in some places (like Kelowna BC) are very very few and far between. The legal drinking age is 19 in both provinces (BC and Ontario), with Alberta having a legal age of 18. All places will expect you to provide 2 pieces of ID to purchase booze and smokes. One of those will have to have a picture and signature. Your passport will do, but make sure your picture is current... I have turned away many people from my store because their passport picture was of them at 3. Both cities you have mentioned have the good sides and the bad sides, both have lots to do to keep you entertained. Both have WAAAYYYY more people than I like. Both have great little towns less than 2-3 hour drives away. The Canadian shield in Ontario is very pretty, with lakes and trees. The mountains are spectacular and can be seen from Vancouver, as well as the ocean and small islands to investigate as well. |
As for jobs in tourists towns, such as Banff, Whistler etc... it depends on the money you expect... Many of the hotels need extra employees during peak seasons, as well as any retail/sightseeing places.
|
Toronto. You can't go wrong in Toronto in the summer.
But I haven't been to Vancouver so can't help you there. |
To Canada or not to Canada?
Who the hell is Ada? Whoever she is, I'd can her ass quick. If not you may wind up moving to another country. |
Ada Bett.
She's a follower. |
In the Philly area, the summer tradition is to go "downtheshore", the term used to denote the annual trip to the New Jersey beaches. Go to a place like Wildwood (extreme southern NJ beach) for the Boardwalk, jobs, food and weirdo-watching. Oh yeah, picking up teens (I was a teen once and did this, not anymore) for casual sex (you're of that age group, right?) and partying. Either gender, as your preference demands.
|
Yea, we did that too. I spent quite a few years in central jersey in the mid 70's. We went to the shore every year. Asbury Park was the most popular destination.
|
OMG - you two are total tourists - get it right - NJ doesn't have a beache - It has the shore - sheesh!
|
Even in the 70's it was pretty nasty. We really just went for the boardwalk. It was like a reddernecked version of Myrtle Beach.

I am from Canada, specifically Ontario. I would say Ottawa but that's if you want a cleaner place than Toronto. Low crime rate in Toronto? Haha now that's funny! Toronto is nice but busy and not particularly clean. However Ottawa is like a cleaner, cooler Toronto and no I am not from Ottawa. There are some really cool outdoor markets and lots of really nice pubs with live music. There are also some neat martini bars and clubs. The food is amazing :) You are right next to the Quebec border too. The hotels are nice (at least the ones I've been to). My sister lived there for a while and I loved coming to visit her. I would take Ottawa any day over Toronto. You better be prepared to dress up big time if you are going out in Toronto. I have a gf who lives there and it's ridiculous the way you have to dress up to go out to a club! Anyhoo, that's JMO. Btw Vancouver is very nice and another good choice but be prepared for the rain. They also have a lot of markets, music and fun as well as beautiful scenery.

Do never Canada. Not even once. |
Ironically, I applied to study in Canada earlier this year, and since then have also applied to teach in Ecuador and do a PhD course in Holland.
Really and honestly. I don't think Brazil ever came up, apart from those Brazil nuts I had last week... |
Its all those ions jumping around and bumping into you. You better feel something...:D
