Vanity License Plate (Make Your Own)

License plates - We see them every day as we drive to work or school. What would yours be? Use up to 7 letters to create a plate related to you, your profession or just something silly.

I'll start it off with:

LVMYGRL

Shawnee123 03-06-2009 07:45 AM

The one I wanted for my yellow CRX was CHKITA.

I'll have to think about a current one.

they wouldn't let you do that one

i think it was Steven Tyler who had this one. It says 'eat me' in your rear view mirror. but they took it away when they figured it out.

First is Brit Chick, second is Cherry Berry (my nickname in school)
I chose Wisconsin because it's nice and plain. Not sure about the Disney ref though (ick!)

Dairyland, Sundae.

Sundae 03-06-2009 08:44 AM

Aw shoot.
Talk about reading something too fast!

Dairyland sounds like my kinda theme park ;)

I don't know if Illinois allows 8 letters, but I'd go for something like this:

My favorite vanity plate story, however, is the plate on a Volkswagon Beetle in silicon valley circa 1988. It's also software related.

One of my college profs posed this question to us: What is the make, model, and color of the following car, going by its license plate?

classicman 03-06-2009 10:38 AM

I dunno I'm late, I'm late ...

White Rabbit! BWA HA HA

wolf 03-06-2009 10:59 AM

There was a VW Thing that I used to see a lot running the stretch of 202 just north of WCSC. I loved The Thing and had always wanted one. I wanted to paint it up like the WWII German Desert Staff Car that it resembled so much.

One day I saw the THINNG personalized plate stuck to the back of a diesel Rabbit. It was very sad.

Sundae 03-06-2009 11:14 AM

Shawnee I just don't get it.

And it seems a bit weird to me that a college professor should assume a familiarity with CARS....? Surely most students can't afford them?

Where I went to school, many spoiled rich kids were driving some nice cars. Not me! I worked in the cafeteria for tuition money...;)

Senior year I did get to take the 1973 Impala to school. What a boat!

Aha! I don't feel such a dope now - I could have assumed the white rabbit ref, but there is no such car here (Rabbit? Whaaa?!)

Also, our legal driving age is 17, halfway through college for most kids.

Undertoad 03-06-2009 01:09 PM

Right, the Rabbit is a Golf in Europe.

I hate vanity plates. I take the time to read them and most of them say the dumbest things like MY VAN or GLF NUT.

So in honor of moronic vanity plates everywhere, here's the one I came up with:

The best thing would be to get a vanity plate for a really crappy car. I knew a guy who had the worst piece of crap car ever. The bumper had fallen off so somehow he bolted on a piece of two by four (to keep it legal.) I suggested he get the following on a vanity plate, for contrast:

Shawnee123 03-06-2009 07:04 PM

Grrrrrrr. You know what I meant. You philistines will never understand our vanity plates. Puh.

monster 03-06-2009 07:52 PM

We have vanity plates for the sheer hell of it, 'cause they're so cheap here :D Matching his 'n' hers ones no less

(we wanted monster and beest, but monster was unavailable :( )

SG, round here, half of the high school students (=4th year thru upper 6th, dunno what they call them now) have cars, never mind college (=uni) kids. It's a cultural thing, plus we live near motown -second-hand cars are cheap and plentiful as all the autoworkers are encouraged financially to change their cars regularly.... this may change....

Beestie 03-06-2009 08:02 PM

I thought about getting a commemorative plate in Virginia. Not a vanity plate but one that's marked with a special emblem or logo (Georgia Tech's logo in my case).

They wanted $25 for it which I didn't mind paying. Once. But they wanted the $25 every year I had the plate. I asked why thinking that the $25 was for the trouble of making the special plate. They had no answer (other than we're greedy bastards and just want it). I pointed out that the next year, I would pay the same amount as someone getting a new commemorative plate except that the other guy would get a plate and I wouldn't and explained that the plates, therefore, must be free.

I got the usual blank DMV stare that you can only get at the DMV.

jinx 03-06-2009 08:06 PM

I have this one.

Yebbut you should se how much they cost in the UK..... and you can't just make them up. all plates must have numbers and letters in a set pattern.... so you have to use numbers that look like letters etc.

monster 03-06-2009 08:42 PM

see here, i tried DEVIATE, but it wouldn't work, so i tried DE51ATE (v-5, right...) 1700 quid. Over $2000.

Pie 03-06-2009 09:22 PM

They charge every year on the theory that it's supporting a charitable cause.

Tree Fae 03-06-2009 09:47 PM

The personalized plate I use to have was BA-TCHR stupid MO only lets you have 6 letters. My dad said it stood for Bad Ass Teacher, but wasn't what I was going for lol. I had it while I was in college. Someday I want to have Ruairi.
The only problem with the personalized plates is that if you do something wrong while driving someone is going to remeber your plate so much easier

Cheers for the info Monster. A different country of course, though I'm not supposed to acknowledge that.

Cic - I would SO want that SNEEZE plate! Might make people more wary of me. I have Autosomal Dominant Compelling Helio-Ophthalmic Outburst Syndrome. Yeah, ADCHOO. It's a genetic condition better known as photic sneeze reflex (or photo sensitivity) which affects 10% of the population - although the figure varies - meaning that you sneeze when faced by bright light - usually the sun.

It affects me daily, but it is most notable on holiday - for example my honeymoon in Venice, where the Spring sunlight (low in the sky) and the shadowed alleys/ sunlit squares made it quite apprarent.

If I were to get one for me personally it would be:
