Defense Department sees protests as terrorism

Quote:

Antiterrorism training materials used by the Department of Defense teach that public protests should be regarded as "low-level terrorism," according to a letter of complaint sent to the department by the American Civil Liberties Union of Northern California.

<snip for fair use act shennanigans>

Among the multiple-choice questions included in its Level 1 Antiterrorism Awareness training course — an annual training requirement for all DOD personnel that is fulfilled through Web-based instruction — the department asks the following: "Which of the following is an example of low-level terrorist activity?" To answer correctly, the examinee must select "protests."

Doesn't that just make you want to eat stars and shit stripes? http://www.principiadiscordia.com/fo...ult/roglol.gif

Aliantha 06-15-2009 10:48 PM

Well I suppose their reasoning is that protesters are amassing a group of people to pressure another group or corporation or government into doing what they want.

The definition of terrorism includes words like fear etc, so I assume a group of people gathered together might make some people scared.

morethanpretty 06-15-2009 10:52 PM

I just scream, completely skip the laughing.

Fuck this terrorism shit, and our gov't. Go anarchy!

DanaC 06-15-2009 10:53 PM

Wow. That's worrying. Not entirely a huge surprise...but nonetheless

By that standard, I'm a terrorist because I weigh 120 kilos with a bald head and a fu-manchu mustache.

Problem is, our constitution specifically calls out the right to protest, in any size group, so long as the group is peacable.

But that's just a silly piece of hemp some hippies wrote on back 220 years ago. We keep it in the Smithsonian to keep the government from literally shitting on it.

You have to learn to see the humor in these things.

TGRR,
Goin' out with a smile.

At least we aren't in Britain. They've started waterboarding regular (accused) criminals now.

So we'll be doing that sometime next week.

Aliantha 06-15-2009 10:56 PM

Well you did almost inflict terror on the cellar with your pictures...sooooo...

Funny, I never pictured you as a big guy. I had something different in mind. lol

I look like this:

Except there's only one of me. Most times. Also, my skin color is normally "ruddy", not "toxic yellow".

I haven't watched television since 1987, I'm afraid.

It was mostly the yellow and the expanse of forehead and the goatee in your pic that made me think of CBG moreso than the size of his girth. ;)

I need that forehead, to store my ego. Also, the goatee is a fu manchu now.

You hear about that shit? Over here, it was just a blip. I would have missed it, except I have little news bots that filter out the funny shit for me.

Well, yes. It's not "what the funny foreigners are doing" over here, it's proper news.

*chokes on coffee*

That was funny chika.

I'm actually quite impressed to have a Merkin point it out to us. It's pretty domestic as news goes.

That isn't what I said. But you knew that.

DanaC 06-17-2009 09:25 PM

*chuckles* true dat :P

But it was a fairly domestic story. Over here it was massive news.

Gee, I wonder what they would do if people turned out to protest like they have in Iran the past few days? Wouldn't THAT be a riot, if the Iranian government handled protesters better than our government?

classicman 06-18-2009 03:12 PM

Yeh just shooting into the crowd or rolling thru them with tanks....

Shoot people like TGRR and let people like you protest would be my guess.:p

sugarpop 06-19-2009 02:57 PM

Our government shoots into peaceful crowds all the time. They just use rubber bullets.

And honestly, I think if we had protests every day for a week, with crowds as big as the ones in Iran, then some people probably would die.

Especially if Al Qaeda members joined the protests...

I think I heard the mortal causalities from the Iranian protests were members of the anti-Iranian terrorist group Jundallah. They were supposedly trying to stir up a lot of shit.

I think you're going to have to show us, sugar. This comment is otherwise typical of the ridiculous, base rumors the Left trafficks in, being unused to honesty and dead to integrity.

They're not my type, I must say.

That is probably government propaganda. I seriously doubt that poor girl Neda was a terrorist. Only now the government is trying to shift the blame to some other source (like the US or Britain or some terrorist group), even though people on the street saw who shot her.

OK UG. I will have to take some time later to find it, but I remember a protest, I believe it was in florida sometime last year or maybe the year before, where many people were seriously injured from rubber bullets and other things, like maybe bean bags, that were shot into the crowds? People had posted a lot of pictures when that happened. You have to give me some time to find it though, since it was a while ago.

Shawnee123 07-02-2009 05:41 PM

Another incident in 2003 article.

Sugar, google is your friend. This: florida shoot rubber bullets crowd, yielded both the youtube vid through one article and the second article from 03. ;)

sugarpop 07-02-2009 09:57 PM

Thanks Shawnee. :) I remember this one website that had tons of pictures and comments from people in the crowds. I would like to try and find that website again. I just didn't feel like looking for it earlier. I will look for it later.

Happy Monkey 07-03-2009 08:38 AM

Los Angeles, too.

And more...

TheMercenary 07-07-2009 08:50 AM

Wow. I guess that just goes to show the the Police shoot people with rubber bullets ALL the time.

Not.

Not even close.

Shawnee123 07-07-2009 08:53 AM

Just the other day, I was walking down the street, minding my own business...and rubber bullets started flying at me. Seriously.

But, those above were two separate instances. Maybe not all the time. Except for FL.

;)

TheMercenary 07-07-2009 08:55 AM

Yea, well I was walking through the city when people started to throw Haggis out the windows. It was crazy!

Shawnee123 07-07-2009 09:00 AM

That's the night that the haggis went out in Georgia!

Oh give us a frigging break. It is not happening ALL the time anywhere. Your socialist pettycoat is showing... :)

Urbane Guerrilla 07-11-2009 11:40 PM

TEA parties are demonstrations. The biggest one on July 4 was over twenty thousand people, I believe? The one I was at had 3500, cumulative. The only security-type presence was a lady Garda employee. Who got amiably chatted up at the demonstration's end.

We may have had some resentful sort drive by us close and fast early on. But that was the sole instance of somebody pushing the envelope of public safety.

But nary a rubber bullet.

xoxoxoBruce 07-11-2009 11:48 PM

That's because the other 304,000,000 people were ignoring you.

Bruce, Bruce, Bruce: I was there. And where were you? Stuff it -- you're failing as a funnyman. I know how we were cheered.

You're very generous in providing examples of the inferior mentality of the Left. You sure that's the company you'd rather keep?
