July 13, 2009: Mud Games

It's those southerners playing in the mud again.

But not that southern U.S. red mud, it's southern Korea's gray mud.

Quote:

Participants enjoy the huge mud slide, compete in the mud wrestling contest and enjoy many other activities like escaping mud prison as well the ultimate, a mud bath. Some of the final weekend participants are foreign tourists, and especially American GIs, but most of the participants during the week are Koreans, attracted by clever marketing by the town.

The town fathers and mothers discovered that the mud is more lucrative as a tourist attraction than using the muddy fields for agriculture. The economy generated from the festival supports the many hotels and restaurants along the waterway and several blocks inland. There is also a great deal to see and do in the vicinity and a free tourist bus takes visitors to local sites, including an impressive coal mine and a famous Buddhist shrine.

But in a new wrinkle this year...

Quote:

Hundreds of people were hospitalised for the skin disease they contracted in the pre-events of 'Boryeong Mud Festival'.
According Byryeong City Administration, some 200 out of 1,500 participants contracted some kinds of skin inflammations while they were undergoing mud baths in the pre-Mud Festival events. The mud bath events were held on the embankment of Daecheon Stream in Daecheon-eup, Boryeong City, for two days.

I would think most streams in Korea, most of Asia for that matter, would be risky to drink or even bathe in. :greenface

Getting a skin disease from rolling in the mud in Asia. Who'd a thunk it?

Gravdigr 07-13-2009 04:12 PM

Let's roll!

Undertoad 07-13-2009 04:37 PM

The redneck games were held last weekend but I could not find enough good images of it to make an IotD.

Why is that old man slapping Bruce on the behind?

Gravdigr 07-14-2009 01:29 PM

She didn't even drop her cig. Now, that's class.

jinx 07-14-2009 06:31 PM

I swear I've seen that chick, that bathing suit, and that cig in pictures of Redneck Games from years past. Can't make the search thinger work to find the pics though.

lumberjim 07-14-2009 06:40 PM

i'll second that emotion

Flint 07-14-2009 06:59 PM

I'm certain there was...a girl in a rebel flag bathing suit... but it could have been a biker thread, maybe.

jinx 07-14-2009 07:11 PM

No, no... the one you're thinking of was from one of Zippy's river trips. Im talking about that girl, with that suit, climbing out of the mud holding her cig up.

Griff 07-15-2009 08:09 PM

Is the image in post #4 flag desecration?
I'm told the other pic is an approved use of the battle flag.

The Redneck Games are about 2 hours from our place. You don't have to drive far to find games like this on any weekend.

As soon as she put it on. Really.

DucksNuts 07-21-2009 04:14 AM

Is that girl's head out of proportion? or is it just me?

xoxoxoBruce 07-21-2009 11:00 AM

A lot more mud.

Flint 07-21-2009 12:09 PM

God, chicks covered in mud are sexy. Why is that?

xoxoxoBruce 07-21-2009 12:12 PM

You equate mud with dirty, and... ;)

I think it's more of the wanting to lick--I mean wash them clean...

Clodfobble 07-21-2009 04:17 PM

I think it's because when they're all monotone like that, they look more like they're naked.

Flint 07-21-2009 04:28 PM

That makes sense. The wang-brain triggers on stimulus which has any chance of leading to the promised land.

DucksNuts 07-22-2009 05:41 AM

Exxxxcuse me...head too big? anyone

ZenGum 07-22-2009 09:57 AM

Sorry, Ducks, the wang-brain and all that.

Yes it does look a little large in proportion, but I think it is a combination of mildly small build and the camera angle slightly from above.

Wang brain ... promised land ... guy poetry.

That's actually a very beautiful sentiment. I'm crying a little bit.
