What Are You Doing for Halloween?

I am going camping. Well, if you want to call it that. Is it really camping if you have your own private potty, fridge, microwave, flat-screen TV/DVD player, stove w/oven, bunk beds for the kids and separate bedroom with queen size bed? LOL!

I love, love, love, looooove our camper.

We're going with a bunch of friends who also have their own campers (ours is the newest though :yelgreedy) to a campground nearby - seriously it's only about 15 min. away - and partying all weekend. There are fun things to do - costume contest, pumpkin carving contest, chili cookoff, potluck dinner, hayrides, and maybe a DJ.

I've got myself a 12-pack of Newcastle, and my friend Steve has promised me some of his Juenglings, which are kind of hard to find around here and are sooooo good.

The weather today is lovely and about 75. Tomorrow it's supposed to be cooler and rain, but hopefully not all day.

Wish you could join me! :D

The camper in this photo is not ours, but it's the exact model and year. Ain't it pretty?

classicman 10-30-2009 02:23 PM

I'm jealous! That thing is gorgeous!

glatt 10-30-2009 03:29 PM

That's nicer than my house! Well, not really, but it's beautiful. Camping in the rain is just fine when you have that.

Sundae 10-30-2009 04:11 PM

Here in the 'rents house and here in England, I'm doing more than any non-breeder.

Explained before (Leicester time) that I lived in Spooky House on the Road. And when I lived with HM it was more No Money, Can I Have Some of Your Chocs? (tm)

I loved spooky stories as a child.
They were rationed becuase Mum was fed up with waking up to screms.
Of course it turned out that I didn't need stories to wake up screaming and she didn't need a daughter's screams to wake up.

I've reined in.
My intentions I mean,
Just me in my vampire queen costume. And the pumpskin, And the sweeties in a bowl.
It will be sadly tame. Sadly, becaise the 'rents path at the scrag end of October is terrifying in its own right. And I'd love to do a Dad on the local kids (it's here somewhere - he terrified Laura Saunders).

But I'll just be a wampyr.
Pics.
If'n you deserve them :greenface

I am going to a dog show where it is a tradition to "dress up" the dogs that are not showing at the time and I don't really dress up my dogs but just in case I have to for a magazine photo op, I have this scenario rigged up for a photo. Its kinda of a lazy costume as one dog doesn't need one. ;)

Undertoad 10-30-2009 05:09 PM

Trimming the hedges, cutting back the weeds, figuring out whether the banister on the front steps can support the weight of a child.

Shawnee123 10-30-2009 05:12 PM

Have fun Juni.

I'm doing a whole lot of nothing. Staying home tonight, working for a while tomorrow, staying home tomorrow night. Watch some movies, play some computer games, get some sleep.

Which sounds perfect to me. :)

monster 10-30-2009 05:12 PM

TorT in the 'hood. Womanning the haunted haouse. after decorating it.

One child? Your child? Are you staging the area? I just ask 'cause your last sentence is a tease.

Halloween? Nothing much because I did everything I had to do today. I am going to nurse the crick in my back. Listen to a basket ball game, (from the other room, and watch The Simpsons' Tree House of Horror and hand out candy before I eat it all.

jinx 10-30-2009 10:47 PM

Going to my sister's house. The kids have decided she has the best neighborhood for trick or treat.

Shawnee123 10-31-2009 08:33 AM

Juni, how was last night? The wind was insane here...I wondered how you fared in the camper: my place even had a little shaky shaky going on.

Perfect Halloween weather! :)

Hahahahaaa...NO! Unless you count yowling cats.

SamIam 10-31-2009 10:37 AM

The neighbors have gone wild. They have ghosts hanging from their trees and a headless horseman and all sorts of crap. I dread to think what they'll do for Christmas, but I have a feeling all the blinking lights will keep me up nights. They have also invited the entire neighborhood for a block party tonight. Don't know if I'll go or not since they are serving alcohol and I try to avoid the stuff. :reaper:

monster 10-31-2009 11:13 AM

We have a slight problem in that it's really windy and i think it'll blow all my gravestones away..... :(

You're a laugh-a-minute aren't you? at least you can have fun yelling at their visitors to get off your lawn, maybe? ;)

Mr. Clod and my stepson are finishing his costume in the kitchen as we speak. He's gonna be a type of Pokemon called a Cacturn (see below.) Minifob is already wearing his costume--the same one from last year--and likely will all day. Looking forward to everyone's photos!

Heh. They can walk over my lawn all they want. I just try to avoid alcohol since I don't want to have to tell my AA group that I slipped. That would make for a very spooky Halloween for me. :greenface

monster 10-31-2009 11:44 AM

but you're already dreading the neighbors at Christmas and we're not even done with Halloween.....

Daughter and all her friends went as various candy, she and I spent some time making this Swedish Fish costume. My son was Anakin, which was a lot easier.

We went over to another neighborhood so my daughter could be with all her candy friends. That neighborhood had a big bonfire that they had trouble starting in the rain, and TONS of kids going from house to house. It was funny, there would be like ten kids in a line at every house going from the sidewalk to the front door. Hundreds of kids in a one block area.

Then we ended the evening on the front porch of a neighbors house, eating pumpkin pie, drinking beer and hanging out.

skysidhe 11-01-2009 07:47 AM

good times! Lot's of great photos.

Congratulations on your son's win Juniper.

Nicely done Swedish Fish costume.
Great Anakin costume too.

Oh! When you said she was going to be a Swedish fish, I thought you meant she'd be dressed like a piece of the candy, not the box. You guys did a great job with the logo.

We had an Imagination Mover, an octopus, and a Cacturne (a Pokemon.) My stepson's face is covered because I don't know if his mom would be cool with me posting his picture.

wolf 11-01-2009 08:49 AM

I didn't expect to do anything. I wasn't sure that going out and interacting with people was my best choice yesterday. I wasn't all that fun to be around, you know? But my friends knew better, and one of them invited me over to her house for Halloween. What's better for your mood than handing out huge bags of candy to kids, right? Except that my friend doesn't just hand out candy. She had a full-scale haunted house going on. I told her in advance I really didn't feel up to acting last night. My plan was to mope on the couch and just be around people.

So much for the plans. While I held fast and did not get transformed into the ghoulish cook in the kitchen, I ended up being one of the greeters, handing out bags of candy, and chit chatting with people who were waiting to be ready for the haunt. Apparently I did a really great job of putting people at ease and readying them for the unexpected ... A vampiress leaping out at them and shrieking. A couple of the teens never made it past the entry, the last "normal" room in the house. It was extraordinarily cool to watch these supposedly brave youngsters (males, mainly) turn tail and flee!

I ended up having a really good time.

Well, that was the original plan, but in the end, we figured the box would be easier. Even so, it took a few hours.

Juniper 11-01-2009 09:06 AM

My son love that swedish fish costume! It's his favorite candy. My daughter had a reese's costume last year that was similar. Homemade - my mom made it, actually, many years ago - but I think it was from a kit she got at the fabric store. Way cool, everyone!

Now I'm on my way to watch daughter's cheer competition.

Radar 11-01-2009 12:16 PM

I love clodfobble's little octopus. My daughter has been an animal every year, but she was upset with me this year. She wanted to be spiderman or a princess.

Trilby 11-01-2009 01:13 PM

Why not Princess Spiderman? Seems obvious, really. :)

Clodfobble 11-01-2009 01:52 PM

Heh... I loved the octopus because it was $5 at the consignment store and I did not have to sew anything on it.

glatt 11-01-2009 02:02 PM

yeah, the octopus is cool. The other two are good too, but since I'm clueless and don't recognize them, the octopus stands out for me.

Sure, now that you've said it out loud. :) Seriously, that never even occurred to me. I just wanted her to look super cute and I guess this is the last year she'll be my little dress up doll.

I've added yet another item to the "Things That Probably Only I Have Ever Done" list:

Stalking squirrels using a 10-ton 1926 streetcar.

See, the Fort Smith Trolley Museum runs, at least in part, next to the Fort Smith Veteran's Cemetery, a lovely wooded place.

Woods = squirrels.

Squirrels + trolley = fun.

Not that I squish 'em or anything. That wouldn't be sporting.

HOW TO STALK SQUIRRELS USING A STREETCAR

1) Observe pair of squirrels hanging out besides trolley tracks some feet ahead.

2) Cut power to trolley so that you are approaching slowly and as quietly as a ten ton machine on somewhat rusty rails can manage.

3) Pull abreast of squirrels.

4) Ring trolley bell as loudly as possible.

5) Snicker as Squirrel 1 jumps up a foot in the air and heads for the hills.

6) Look surprised as Squirrel 2 simply gives you a "You ASSHOLE" look and calmly continues munching its acorn.
:lol2: Well done, Major.
