What did you buy today?
a time-wasting curiosity thread! ta da!
So, weekends are my days to get household shopping done. today I bought: --a bright blue plastic adirondack chair. They didn't have the ottomans for it, so I also bought --a tiny kids bright blue plastic adirondack chair. to put my feet on. --rubber interlocking padding for my concrete patio when I work out --Three Cups of Tea Book for my granddaughter's birthday, 'cause B&N didn't have the Howard zinn book I wanted --cat food, hair color, liquid plumber. How fun! |

I bought Microsoft Office Pro Plus, for $10, and just finished installing it. |
I bought a cake mix and frosting for my stepdaughter (couldn't eat the cake myself, but I had several forkfuls of frosting straight out of the container,) plus I happened to pick up paper towels and napkins while I was there. They didn't have the other things I wanted.
|
yeah, I guess they interlock like puzzles--for workout floors
|
Keryx got a bunch of books at yard sales, and I got a frisbee. And I hooked up with an old acquaintance today.
And we got a bunch of fruit and garlic stuffed olives, and garlic cheese bread. |

Good for her fargon! Books anyway they come are great.
@ cloud. I bought cat food and liquid plumber too! I discovered Science Diet. They are on the 5th bag of it and they are doing great. Slimming down and getting all healthy and they should. That stuff is expensive but worth every penny. Well maybe not too expensive considering the price of the fattening hair falling out over the counter grocery store products. I didn't buy anything today but yesterday I bought five $1 dollar notebooks a pack of pens. Last weekend I found a steal chair for $29.99. I am not in the position to buy an anti-gravity chair but it looked like a good knockoff and at $40 percent off. Patience pays off. lol sometimes. I had been waiting to find a chair on sale for months. |
yum @ fargon. and sorta yum @ Clod, but -- icing/frosting is better on cake.
|
@ skysidhe -- I just dumped one like it in the trash and bought the new chair to replace). After a year (or two--can't remember); the metal parts were broken, the fabric discolored, and the webbing rotted. I just can't keep anything good out there; the conditions are too harsh!

I bought it at Ace hardware. I think they are still on sale and at that price everyone can have one. lol I don't like plastic too much. I get all obsessional about the dirt that attracts to it. I would be cleaning it all the time and that would annoy me. I think I can handle the rust a little better. I'll just call it a patina. :artist: I am glad you found some comfy chairs though. I know that is what is mostly out there these days. I did see some nice tomato colored ones. I like those but white? no way. |

Dinner, large with x-cheese, pepperoni and mushrooms, going to pick it up now (they don't deliver but they're worth it)
|
Ooh, technically bought two days ago, but just got a shipping notice for: a Japanese tsukemono, aka pickling press. I desperately want to duplicate these pickled vegetables we get at our favorite Chinese place, without having to go to the Chinese place.
|
I hope maybe you can post some of your successes. I am intrigued. Plus I like pickles.

They way I am feeling I would do it without a permit just as a form of anarchy. Seriously, you need a permit to build a barn? It must be pretty big then? |

I bought a charm bracelet from The Phantom of the Opera. It has a music sign, a charm that reads "The Phantom of the Opera" (natch), a rose, a charm that reads "Prima Donna", a phantom mask, and a heart that reads Think of Me.
It was a nice show. :) |

1) went to a farmers market and bought a cantaloupe, carrots, and a bag of fresh picked rosemary. dunno what I'll use all that rosemary for, but it was only $1 and I liked the guy.
2) Bought a silver cuff bracelet (size large!) and steel necklace (really love their steel jewelry) from QVC. They're having a special--5 "easy payments" today only on EVERYTHING! Pretty good deal, and I've been wanting to try out the easy pay thingy. Thought about buying a new desktop--but decided on something smaller. ETA: 3) and a watch, also from QVC. I've been needing a new one. Note to self: no more QVC today! |

ah, I get it. don't usually think about snow around here.
I also bought a suet cake and put it out for birds this morning. . . only to realize that it's not for warm weather and will probably melt and drip all down the tree. duh. Oh well, maybe the birds will eat it all up before it does that--they're certainly going to town on it now. |

Lovely, I like the wood and the uniqueness of it inside and out. |
You stained without getting any on the white window and door frames - that's pretty good.
Is that the solar collector/heater on the left? |
Can we all come live at Griftopia? Something about it always seems so peaceful. :)
|
Man you must not mind being at the top of a ladder!

But I may require beer later. Also have three books in my Amazon UK cart -may or may not happen today. And I need to order a swim team tank top and one or two team hoodies -that has a good chance of happening this evening |

Yeah, that's the collector. Quote:

How is the solar collector thing working out? One of my neighbors was considering getting one.
|
It is difficult to quantify. Nothing too dramatic in terms of the whole house since the passive solar face already does a lot for us on sunny days but it does take the edge off the basement room it is plumbed to. On a bright sunny day it will lift that small insulated room maybe 20 degrees F. When the ceiling and finish work is done it'll be interesting to see how it holds heat. I guess an insulated house with poor solar gain or tightly insulated workshop in an unheated building would be good applications. Since it draws from the floor it is heating the coldest air in the space, so that is pretty helpful. I wouldn't over sell it but it is a great feeling when you hear the blower come on knowing the sun is the only input post manufacture.
