Zumba! (or any other exercise)

So I bought myself the Zumba discs from Amazon and got them about a month ago. Last night I was bored watching TV and I actually got up off my butt and did the intro  - where they show you how to do the moves. Too bad just doing that completely wiped me out! I mean I know I am out of shape, but I didn't think it was that bad. I am not too sore today, probably because of all the breaks, but I am surprised I feel anything. mostly in the outer thighs and lower abs....or ab as I only have one :D

Well, I decided to try and do it 5 days out of the week. I figured if I posted about it somewhere, it would help me to do it - especially since I will probably have to do the intro a couple more days before moving to the actual workout. I don't know if anyone else is trying to get in the routine of exercising, but if you are, feel free to post! We could all use support, right? Don't leave me hanging! ;)

good luck! I have the Zumba music, and dance around a lot to that. I'm also doing aqua aerobics, and walking (with the Nordic walking poles). Don't forget to add strength training in there, too.

One of the discs included in the package is a sculpt and tone workout that uses the sticks you see in the infomercial. Right now I am just concentrating on doing something. I actually have another DVD that isn't part of Zumba that does toning with weights. I will probably work that in twice a week and do Zumba the other days.

Although it looks like Zumba just came out with a whole other set of DVDs! Looks like I got my set just in time!

You can do ANYTHING.

skysidhe 03-08-2011 04:44 PM

Dancing seems like an enjoyable way to exercise.

It is! It's my staple activity.

I won't vouch for its accuracy, but here's one apparent transcript.

It's not too bad. I feel like I have three left feet though. I still can't believe I ever took ballet!!

I did the basics again and it wasn't as bad as yesterday, so I watched the 20 minute workout. Yep, just watched it. It didn't look as scary as I thought it would be. I think I will do the basics again tomorrow and then be ready to try the 20 minute on Thursday. I think I might have to break out the ankle and knee brace just to be safe.

I am proud of myself. It may seem like a small thing to do this twice in a row, but I almost went to the bar instead. I knew I had to report back to you guys and it really kept me on track.

Thanks!

There are already people who want to have sex with me....just not the ones I want to have sex with! :D

Day 3 - did the 20 minute workout today instead of the beginner. I burned way less calories and I found out I still don't know the steps yet. I just didn't want to spend an hour again tonight. I am debating taking off Friday night and doing a workout on Saturday.

Thanks again for letting me ramble.

bbro 03-10-2011 03:36 PM

Tonight will be a no exercise night. I feel myself getting a little burnt out. I think I am going to go out and celebrate a wonderful thing that happened to a friend last night/this morning. Or maybe just chill.

Tulip 03-10-2011 03:59 PM

Just googled Zumba. Looks fun. Maybe I'll the DVD and change my exercise routine. Btw, Bbro, keep on shaking those hips! :thumb:

bbro 03-11-2011 12:28 PM

Thanks Tulip :)

So I did what I planned and went out - no exercise. I was going to take today off too and do it Saturday and Sunday, but I just booked a vacay to the beach with my mom in June. I definitely want to lose weight before then. Brandy (me) needs to lose some padding so I am going to go ahead and do the 20 minute one again. Or, since I am hungover, maybe one of the less intense discs that isn't Zumba.

Perry Winkle 03-11-2011 02:33 PM

Russian kettlebell exercises are great fun. After you get a few in different weights you start to feel like a Russian athlete, or like you live in a gulag (or a bombed out building in the USSR).

bbro 03-14-2011 08:58 AM

Well, obviously, I didn't do anything since last Wednesday :( Bad Brandy. Instead of hiding and drowning in depression of yet something else I didn't finish, I am owning up. The weird thing is that when I hear some booty shaking music, I start imagining Zumba steps. Gonna do the Beginner's again tonight.

jimhelm 03-15-2011 03:29 PM

try NOT dancing to this:

turn it up....1!!1!!!!

Cloud 03-15-2011 04:04 PM

I have a bunch of exercise DVDs I rarely use, preferring instead just to jam to music free form. I'm an independent soul!

one of my favorites for the treadmill/eliptical

that would make me head for the pool -after slitting my wrists.

Aliantha 03-15-2011 08:49 PM

I've just ordered a treadmill which arrives tomorrow. I'm finding it's really hard to get out to excercise mainly because of the kids needs always coming before mine, so I've decided to bring it to me. We've got a good weights set out the back, so the strength training is no problem, it's just cardio work that it's hard to get into. I don't want to transform all my fat to muscle. lol

bbro 03-16-2011 08:08 AM

Yea...just went to bed instead. Today is the start of my weight watchers week, so I was going to exercise tonight. Instead, I am going to throw on some music and clean up the downstairs. I will be moving, but things will get done, too. If I can at least start moving after work, it has to be better than nothing!

God, I am so frustrating. I want to lose weight, but I am too damn lazy to actually do anything.

If it's anything like the treadmill in our house, it's going to become the kids' favorite new toy. :)

One thing my mom did that I always thought was clever was she set her computer up on a shelf in front of the treadmill. Whenever she was online, she had to walk. Nothing vigorous, but if she wanted to surf, check email, anything at all--she had to be walking.

Aliantha 03-16-2011 05:39 PM

I could have got the super delux model with the TV screen and everything which would have allowed me to check email and stuff, but I don't plan on going that slowly for too long. Within a couple of weeks I hope to be running or at least jogging. My muscles have 'remembered fitness' so it shouldn't take too long to get up to speed (I hope lol).

I want to drop at least 4 dress sizes by Christmas.

casimendocina 03-17-2011 06:01 AM

Good luck Ali. Keep us updated (if you feel so inclined).

This website is good for keeping a diary of your workouts. Last time I was "training" for something, writing it down helped me keep as motivated as I get with this sort of thing. They also have suggestions for programs-e.g. how far to run how many days a week and when to build up kms etc... to reach a goal + specific programs for things like weight loss.
