What's Hurting Your Fricking Shoulder Like There's No Tomorrow?

I'll start:

I put a scope on my 12 gauge so I could hunt deer with it and I went down to the range this morning to sight in the scope.

The recoil after the first slug hurt like hell. The second one hurt a little more than the first. The third one hurt like a motherfucker and the fourth one made me think I had done enough and needed to change to #6 shot, except it was a 3" load with 1 3/4 oz of pellets, in someways worse than the slug.

Glad that is done and I have about a month until Bow season and then another two weeks until rifle/shotgun season.

Will post bruises if they show up.

infinite monkey 09-15-2011 11:40 AM

Didn't you just have surgery on your shoulder or something not long ago?

Maybe you need a different hobby? Like, gluing cotton balls together, or juggling marshmallows?

I just had my hip replaced. Hey! I think I'll take up pole-vaulting!

;)

Sundae 09-15-2011 11:42 AM

You missed the boat, chap.
I had my gammy shoulder last month.

I hurt like (unlubricated) buggery then.
Pleased to say I am over it now and can turn my head with abandon.

Trilby 09-17-2011 05:31 PM

it's not my shoulder but it's close. It's my right carotid artery in my fucking neck where they put the fucking port thing-y for the GD chemo. They couldn't get it in my subclavian vein because they couldn't find it - or so they tell me - and what, five years on this mofo STILL hurts? It hurts with a stabbing, jabbing, terrible pain.

They tell me to "rub it".

chuh.

HungLikeJesus 09-18-2011 10:15 AM

Maybe you misunderstood what they meant.

Spexxvet 09-19-2011 09:06 AM

Sawed up the limbs that fell during Irene, and the limbs I preemptively took down before Irene, and moved about 50 rocks, each 10 to 40lbs, that were scattered around the property. My shoulder is stiff and singing to me, this morning.

HungLikeJesus 09-19-2011 09:29 AM

Whose limbs did you saw up?

Zippy - here's the important question: what kind of pain meds??

:D

Griff 11-09-2011 05:22 AM

Good luck dude.

Trilby 11-09-2011 05:25 AM

Griff : are you following me?

Griff 11-09-2011 05:30 AM

*turns down alley, breaks into run*

footfootfoot 11-09-2011 09:28 AM

Zippy,

Get a recliner and put it close to the bathroom. Get a pile of wound dressings on standby. Get a whole bunch of canteens filled with water and put them within easy reach of your recliner. Get at least two or three floppy gel ice packs and just keep ice on your shoulder all the time for the first few days. When the ice packs stop warming up then you can back off. Right after the surgery the ice packs will warm up in about half an hour, just keep the rotation going.

Make sure they give you a good sling, one with a pillow to keep your arm slightly elevated. It helps keep the tendon in the right place while it heals. Wear it all the time 24/7. take it off only when you shower.

You'll probably get a horrible rash in your pits since they won't get much air for a few weeks. wash, dry, deodorant, diaper cream, and dry wash cloths.

http://braceshack.com/image/cache/da...-x-500x500.jpg

Forget about sleeping, get an ipod and a bunch of mellow music or books on tape.

Do everything your doctor tells you to do. Do everything your PT tells you to do. Don't try to do anything at all with your arm unless your Doc or PT specifically tells you to do it.

Good luck

Clodfobble 11-09-2011 10:02 AM

Damn, look at foot go. You'd think he's done this before, or something.

infinite monkey 11-09-2011 10:21 AM

And DON'T go bow hunting! ;)

My dad is having hand surgery today. Waited until after golf season. Last night he seemed pretty sure he was going to have no problem recuperating and I hope he's right, but I'm not so sure.

I hope all goes well Zippy!

footfootfoot 11-09-2011 10:33 AM

And remember, you can never have too much water in a nuclear reactor.

infinite monkey 11-09-2011 10:35 AM

Words of wisdom, folks, words of wisdom.

Wait...whut?

KABOOM!

On the primitve archery forum a guy was asking about how soon after open heart surgery he'd be able to go bow hunting. His doc said 3 months. WTF? Also the guy was 51. Yikes. Then another guy answered and said, he'd had OHS last year and he was up and at it in 6 months or something but he was 30. WTFF? Who has OHS at 30 AND is a bowhunter?

I hope everything goes smoothly for your dad, even though this is the shoulder thread. He should really start a hand thread, just sayin. The hand has a lot fewer heart valves and sternums and what not so he should be good to go. (I'm not a doctor, but I did play doctor as a child)

infinite monkey 11-09-2011 10:47 AM

My dad is 73, and if he had to be cooped up he would go nutso.

Thanks, I'm a little worried. He does a lot of woodworking in the winter, and I hope he doesn't have too much pain. A woman here at work had the same surgery and said it was rough.

Maybe I'll start a thread: My Dad's Hand.

Someone born with a heart defect so kept himself as healthy as possible so when the time came for surgery, he'd be in the best place possible?

HungLikeJesus 11-09-2011 11:06 AM

I think that this is a good opportunity for your dad to learn to operate the table saw with his feet.

infinite monkey 11-09-2011 11:07 AM

Well, I did inherit my dad's "asparagus toes" and they're pretty agile. I wouldn't put it past him!

Clodfobble 11-09-2011 11:33 AM

Asparagus toes, huh? I must have blueberry toes then.

infinite monkey 11-09-2011 11:37 AM

Yeah, they're not green, they're just shaped like asparagus. Or so my mom has always said. My best friend in HS called me asparagus toes.

Are your toes blue, or just round?

monster 11-09-2011 11:39 AM

We need to see the Asparagus toes!

HungLikeJesus 11-09-2011 11:43 AM

FOOD FEET!

infinite monkey 11-09-2011 11:51 AM

You're not replaceable, Zip

footfootfoot 11-09-2011 02:32 PM

Good luck with the last part. Seriously, plan on at least a week off before you even try to get in a car. Don't even try to drive yourself.

How bad a tear do you have?

zippyt 11-09-2011 03:00 PM

Doc says its unknown until he gets in there with a camera

Thanks Spex

footfootfoot 11-09-2011 03:10 PM
