How much sleep do you get?

really? on average?

Razzmatazz13 09-05-2012 07:09 AM

On average probably around 8... but I feel best with around 9 or 10 if I can get it.

glatt 09-05-2012 07:50 AM

Probably 7 on average. I go to bed at 10 and get up at 6. But I often hear the downstairs clock chiming at 11 while I'm lying there. And I wake up a lot at night and toss and turn. Last night I bet I got 5 because I slept poorly.

monster 09-05-2012 08:27 AM

Wow, how do you all do it? I guess I'm burning the candle at both ends, literally...

infinite monkey 09-05-2012 08:27 AM

I see that only glatt and I gave serious helpful answers to monster.

limey 09-05-2012 08:45 AM

I answered eight, but it's prolly more like seven on average .... I'm really really lucky. The short-sleep nights are usually my own stoopid fault for managing my time badly (= spending too lon on teh Cellar)..

Lamplighter 09-05-2012 08:58 AM

IM, you're such a knob...

infinite monkey 09-05-2012 09:02 AM

*puffs up*

Why, thank you, thank you for noticing! ;)

monster 09-05-2012 09:05 AM

No need to get all knobbier than thou about it

infinite monkey 09-05-2012 09:08 AM

It's hard to average when I might get between 4-8 during the week and between 8-15 on the weekends!

I'm a professional sleeper, but right now it's really just a hobby because of work and stuff.

Stormieweather 09-05-2012 10:57 AM

Between 6 and 7 hours. The alarms start ringing at 6 hours (for spouse) and I snooze off and on for another hour or so. Weekends are usually right around 8 hours.

This last Sunday night (Labor Day's Eve), I slept for 12 hours!! It was amazing and I was shocked!

BrianR 09-05-2012 11:01 AM

I generally get 7.5-8 hours a day. Unless the wife has plans for me.

Gravdigr 09-05-2012 12:25 PM

I rarely sleep for an hour straight. I hardly ever get to that deep-sleep state that actually does ya some good. Light sleeper, too. Everything wakes me up.

footfootfoot 09-05-2012 01:43 PM

After my sleep study I found out I was averaging 9 minutes of sleep before I woke, for a total of about three and a half hours.

Now I take 100mg of Trazadone to help me fall asleep. and 200 or 300mg or Gabapentin to stay asleep. The RLS was waking me 50 times a night or something.

The past few months have been great, sleep wise. Still I can use a nice hour long nap midday when I can get one.

Grav, talk to your doc about a sleep study

Rhianne 09-05-2012 01:45 PM

2-5 when things are going good but not always at night and not usually in one go.

Do you remember long ago when you said you sometimes had the same kind of freaky overwhelming episodes of deja vu I described having, and I told you they might be partial temporal lobe seizures like mine? Have you had any episodes of that since starting the Gabapentin?

Lola Bunny 09-05-2012 07:25 PM

On average, I get about 4 1/2 hours of sleep. However, I would love to have 7 hours, and I can get by with only 6 if I don't get a sleep deficit. I'm starting to get used to with only 4 1/2 hours, so I'm not feeling so tired anymore.

Foot, why are you taking Gabapentin? Clod, is that med supposed to be good or bad? I guess I should look it up, but I just assumed that since the doc prescribed it, it should be okay. :yelsick: The doc recently prescribed that for my mom, and he's supposed to gradually reduce the dosage and wean her off. She's still taking the same dosage after 2 months though.

Those sleep patterns can't be healthy.

limey 09-06-2012 05:53 AM

I don't want to worry you guys, but ...

DucksNuts 09-06-2012 07:04 AM

I get about 5 solid during the week and 6, sometimes 7 on the weekends.

Trilby 09-06-2012 07:32 AM

I get about ten - but I suspect I'm awake more than I realize. I need a sleep study.

jimhelm 09-06-2012 08:43 AM

I'm, like IM. I get 8-10 when I'm off that morning, but on days when I work until 11, get home at 12:30 and have to be up at 7.... I usually get 5.5 to 6.5 hours. I suspect that I do not get very good sleep, too. I had a sleep study just before my life exploded in June of '10.... but the results were never given to me because I was up all night with a headache/toothache.... and then I lost 50 lbs and started sleeping much better. As I've put the weight back on, my sleep has deteriorated....which I understand causes weight gain.... a nasty little circle that.

You know, I haven't. I wonder about that. I had a grandmother with epilepsy and sometimes I have this weird feeling like it is waiting in the wings to be set off by flickering lights or driving through dappled sunlight.

Then again, it could just be Ebola.

Who Needs Sleep?

Now I lay me down not to sleep
I just get tangled in the sheets
I swim in sweat three inches deep
I just lay back and claim defeat

Chapter read and lesson learned
I turned the lights off while she burned
So while she's three hundred degrees
I throw the sheets off and I freeze

Lids down, I count sheep
I count heartbeats
The only thing that counts is
that I won't sleep
I countdown, I look around

Who needs sleep?
well you're never gonna get it
Who needs sleep?
tell me what's that for
Who needs sleep?
be happy with what you're getting
There's a guy who's been awake
since the Second World War

My hands are locked up tight in fists
My mind is racing, filled with lists
of things to do and things I've done
Another sleepless night's begun

There's so much joy in life,
So many pleasures all around
But the pleasure of insomnia
Is one I've never found
With all life has to offer,
There's so much to be enjoyed
But the pleasures of insomnia
Are ones I can't avoid

Lids down, I count sheep
I count heartbeats
The only thing that counts is
That I won't sleep
I countdown, I look around

Hala Hala Hala

Well, of course I ask because Gabapentin is primarily an anti-seizure med. Though all the anticonvulsants get prescribed for a ton of off-label uses.

footfootfoot 09-06-2012 05:10 PM

yeah when I read that about Gabapentin my first thought was, RLS is a kind of seizure.

Aliantha 09-06-2012 06:11 PM

Sleep? what is this thing you speak of? I don't think I really am getting much worth while sleep at all atm, but I answered 6 cause it's hard to tell in the middle of the night. Sometimes you think you're awake for ages, but it's only 10 mins. Other times you think you're awake for a few mins then you look at the clock and it's nearly 2 hours.

Anyway, I'm hoping to go back to getting at least 2 hour blocks in again soon. Really soon. in fact, the sooner the better.

So sick of indigestion..and having a cold...and a huge lump on the front of my gut.

Madman 09-20-2012 07:32 AM

Sleep.... I love to sleep. Used to wake up at the crack of dawn. Get my coffee & watch the morning news and weather. Back then I would maybe average 5 hours a night.

Not any more... Screw waking up before the birds! I stay in bed until the last possible minute. I hit the hay around 10pm and get up anywhere around 5:30-6am. Weekends... Bed around 11pm and sleep until... Whenever. Most of the time I get up around 8am. If it's raining... 9am. If the wife wants to roll around for a bit... :D
