oh.. for those of you who like addictive video games

Popcap games insaniquarium... oh sweet gawd! I downloaded it, burned the free hour and then ended up buying it.. it's so addictive it's not even funny. just pop by the page and try the web version.. the deluxe version oh! they are evil evil people there at Popcap. (I thought Dynomite was bad and I've played atleast a game of that a day for the past 2 years)..OOH! SHINY!!!

if you can't find it I'll post a link.. just don't say I didn't warn you.

wolf 02-24-2005 01:11 AM

I have to admit my addiction to Jewel Quest.

I downloaded it from MSN games.

It only checks the time remaining timer when the program starts. If you don't shut it down you can play to your heart's content.

I did.

Did the same with MasterBlaster. I completed the game.

mrnoodle 02-24-2005 09:00 AM

I played Zuma non-stop for about 3 months, until the little Inca musical score was firmly embedded in my brain for all eternity. It's going through my head as I write this.

I had to erase it from my hard drive to get any work done at home. RIP Zuma. :(

chainsaw 02-24-2005 09:41 AM

I'm not a big player of games, but I got KATAMARI DAMACY for PS2 and I just can't stop playing it. I've never been addicted to a game, but this one is just so darn fun and funny and weird and the music is great... I roll around my little ball picking things up... It's very unpredictible... What's around the next corner? If you have the chance, I strongly suggest looking into this fabulous creation.

Here's a synopsis and some reviews.

wolf 02-24-2005 12:39 PM

I like that candy train game. Do they still have that?

And that rocket launcher thing. I like that one too much too.

There's a game called Square Off on comcast.net games that I finally managed to get all the way through on the web playable version.

cowhead 02-24-2005 02:07 PM

another screwed up thing..

intelligent qube? anyone? got the demo for the ps1 in... oh... '93 a couple of years ago I remembered the game and went on an ebay hunt.. got obsessed.. ended up paying 40$ for a copy.. but you know.. I play it atleast once a week so I think it was a good buy.. if anyone can point me to good ps1 copying program that works for cd.. I'll send you one ( I know the software is out there.. I just don't know where to start looking!) hmmm.. a ps1 trading club? (not that I would ever illegally copy software :) )

or learn to spell... the thing is I read alot.. I just can't spell lysdexia much?

OnyxCougar 02-24-2005 02:47 PM

Damn you! Damn you to hell!!

hot_pastrami 02-24-2005 05:32 PM

For awhile my wife was playing Insaniquarium ad absurdum. I was wierded out at first because of the strange humming she'd do while playing it, until I figured out that the humming sound was produced by a mermaid in the game. Gah.

PS1 games can be ripped by a variety of programs, including DiscJuggler, Nero and CDRWin. Obtaining a PlayStation or emulator that can _play_ PS1 copies and/or disc images is an entirely different matter, and left as an exercise for the reader.

(I have an original of Intelligent Qube, bought long ago.)

Oh, you want addictive webgames too? NANACA CRASH!

richlevy 02-24-2005 06:42 PM

I liked both Insaniquarium and Zuma. I really liked Rocket Mania, but I preferred the no frills version that didn't talk to you. There is something really annoying about having a computer game say 'good job' when you complete every level.

You are a very, very, evil man.

I had intented to crochet at work tonight. Never picked up a hook.

(admittedly I split my time between nanaca crash! (I made it past 3K meters) and my first visit to Insaniquarium. Is that damn game produced under a corporate sponsorship from some carpal tunnel syndrome surgery center or something?)

melidasaur 02-25-2005 12:50 AM

I love Combo Chaos.

Guyute 02-25-2005 09:31 PM

Proximity is neat- it's an adaptation of Othello.

Guyute 02-25-2005 09:34 PM

http://meph.eu.org/ <-- try this link- all of the games listed as Yestisport games are hilarious. The toss the Penguin game almost got two guys fired from my work.

warning--nostalgia alert

Are any of you Amiga-philes? I have one, A1000, with the most ahead of its time psychedelic music/video morpho-matic: MindLight7. Am I the only one who lost hours of my life watching the sychronized moving music on the screen?

/crickets chirping/

Ahh, o-k. I even piped it out the composite video out into the vhs vcr and captured it. Trippy, man.

BigV 02-26-2005 02:13 AM

Age of Empires
Age of Kings
Age of Mythology
Age of Titans

I'll never get those hours (days, weeks) of my life back. Had to uninstall it or .. I'd still be playing it!!

jaguar 02-26-2005 07:44 AM

Age of Empires 3 soon.
CounterStrike from beta 3 to 1.0, Day of Defeat for a while, Transport Tycoon, OpenTTD for OSX almost caused me to fail a subject...in fact I might just go see if I can finish that coal interchange yard now....

I like Day of Defeat and still play it. I still won't play as a German, even though they have the better equipment, (stick grenades and MG42). Of course the solution is to drop your weapon (press G) and pick up the one your opponent will no longer be needing.

This was absolutely essential if you were stuck playing a British soldier (Bren machine guns, bolt-action Enfield rifles, and Sten 'grease gun' submachine guns that were the military equivalent of the 'zip guns' used by street gangs).

Counterstrike was interesting, but the game is very skirmish oriented, with a time limit on many missions. In untimed missions, Day of Defeat can take over a half hour until one side wins.

Undertoad 02-26-2005 10:00 AM

I'm returning to Civ 3 for a while and also playing Madden XBox and UT2004 while waiting for Ghost Recon 2 for PC.

jaguar 02-26-2005 10:10 AM

I liked the way DoD often had a 'front' that moved back and forth, it encouraged much more team playing, truly playing as a team in CS required a clan and even then it was fairly rare to really pull it off. MG42 is nice but you're sniper bait as soon as you set down.

That's what I loved about the game. They balanced the weapons by assigning tradeoffs. In order to use a heavy MG effectively, you had to lie down and deploy the bipod. In order to move you had to retract the bipod and stand up again, even if an enemy was standing over you with a sharpened shovel or if a grenade was rolling towards you.

mrnoodle 03-02-2005 09:59 AM

Ghost Recon was the shiznit. Right now I'm on an Everquest kick. Even bought a decent graphics card for it. I was heavily in to Wolfenstein ET for awhile but I just can't play the fast action games online until I move somewhere that has broadband.

I'm not EVEN going to look at insaniquarium or any other web game. That's all I need, is another distraction. I feel guilty enough for the number of times I come to the cellar at work.

Hey OC, what's your name on Lavastorm?

Undertoad 03-02-2005 10:44 AM

GR is the real thing to me because if you get shot in the head you die, if you get shot in the leg you limp around. You don't lose "75% health" after getting socked in the chest by a rocket.

Plus most of it is strategery. You don't run around shooting the first thing that moves, you plan an attack with hiding spots and cover fire and stuff. In UT a lot of the time your best option is to run in and fire because it doesn't matter so much if you die.

mrnoodle 03-02-2005 11:09 AM

And GR did a good - at least better - job of making fireteams necessary for mission success. If one part didn't do their job, completing the mission is next to impossible.

Now if they would only get smart AI. You'd think that gunfire and grenades would have every tango in the map on edge, behind cover, and ready to shoot anything that moves. Not so. All you need is a couple of walls between you and they're completely oblivious.

Big Kahuna Reef. (which is basically bejeweled/jewelquest/candyswapper)

It is entrancing.

It has fish.

You get new fish for your reef after you finish every so-many levels.

Oh, and the net is possibly the best game accessory I've ever earned. (Okay, it is NOT better than the Chainsaw in Doom)

Bastards.

ha ha ha!!! I did it!!!!

wolf 03-03-2005 02:38 AM

Oh crap. You know that feeling, when you're queen/king of the world and all of a sudden there's a revolution or palace coup or something?

The "Tiki Bonus Pack" are 50 extra levels.

Bullitt 03-03-2005 04:12 PM

My humble contribution.. Orisinal

The music in some of these games is just.. fantastic. And the games can be beyond addictive..

wolf 03-05-2005 01:10 AM

Played all those and went to Rise of Nations. Much goodness. Terra Cotta Army is the shit!

OH! And I have a subscription to gameblast, which now carries popcap games too, but because I subscribe to gameblast, I got Insaniquarium for $9.95.

cowhead 03-08-2005 02:33 AM

has anyone tried age of mythology? if you wanna play... uh you'll kick my ass! but I love that game... and no! I have been too cheap to get the age of titans expansion.. and ya know I don't think I want it

OnyxCougar 03-08-2005 11:19 AM

I have AoM Titans. It turns the game into "first person to unleash the titan wins".

Undertoad 03-08-2005 11:59 AM

I played through AoKings, and it was a lot of fun. I installed AoMythology and for some reason I just never really got into it. I always found it more fun to go back to Kings than to try to understand the new gameplay of Mythology.

BigV 03-08-2005 12:22 PM

Well, not exactly

Not strictly true.

There are big bennies to getting to Titan first, but it is not the finish line unless you just want to quit there. I have been in battles where the titan lost against non-titan creature/armies. It requires the lilliputians to take advantage of the titan's very slow movement and fire range and rate. Ranged weapons, hit move hit move keep moving or you're a smoking grease stain on the map. It can and has been done. I learned it from the computer opponent and then, knowing it could be done, turned it around and whipped it in exchange the same way.

Also, the titan versus titan battles are... what... titanic, epic! After adjusting my perspective to recognize that little sprite as a human sized reference, being chased by a monster the size of a big castle was very exciting! And then to to see them whomp on each other was cooool.

Ok, calm down... get back to work.

Ok, better now.

OnyxCougar 03-08-2005 01:28 PM

It turns egyptian temples (my favorite) into priest producing machines. A big (read 40 or so, at 100g each) army can pull down a titan, but you gotta be ready for it....

cowhead 03-08-2005 04:09 PM

the coolest thing I ever have seen.. (well.. maybe I am just this lame.) is there was a game of AoKings where it was a team match (and yeah I was just watching..lame) where one guy was building away at his city and the other one ran around getting all the wolves to follow him, well! he rounded up about 15 of them and then led them to an opponants city, where they then decimated it... damn brilliant!... lame

cowhead 03-11-2005 03:21 AM

oh dear... I assume I'm one of the last to hear of this site... reflexive.net ?oh I just made the mistake of downloading Richochet Xtreme... oh it's pong on crack.. it reminds me of an old Coleco game (atlseast I think It was Coleco...) basically pong in space. simple yet horribly addictive, I just sat here and burned my two hour trial period.. ooohhh... shiny

Like othello meets stratego. Approach with caution. MUCH fun, haven't figured out optimal strategy yet. I am batting about .250 or less.

Nightsong 03-12-2005 11:32 PM

My wife has a Club Pogo account. The muttering and cusing and slamming of the keyboard total obscures the amount of fun she claims to be having.

And for addictions I was stuck on snood for ages.

Just played my first 5 games against 'beginner'. I won the last one. Since the pieces are blue and red, I couldn't help thinking 'blue state' and 'red state'. Interesting game. Because you also can reinforce pieces, it has more strategy than othello since you can 'play defense' by makig purely defensive moves.

Happy Monkey 03-13-2005 01:30 PM

Playing with the options can make the game dynamics very different.

I've been playing this one off and on for so long I win just about all the time...

cowhead 03-13-2005 11:58 PM

proximity.. yeah. just got done with a couple of games.. it's like that video crack game.. oddly enough of the same name (well perhaps not odd) although all I'm waiting for (speaking of video crack) is an online version of Royal Flash.. I've played a couple but nothing adds up to the original

Guyute 03-16-2005 09:16 PM

I recommended proximity a couple of pages back, because of finding it's link on another website ( www.short-media.com/forums then look for the "short-media pub"). I went on a real jag playing that game. My best is 974 or thereabouts- I can't remember exactly. My highest one-turn score is 58. That felt good.

My #1 strategy is to use the 1's, 2's and 3's to block in my higher tiles so that the opponent can't turn them...

cowhead 03-17-2005 09:41 AM

sorry I have a bad habit of skipping pages..

Guyute 03-20-2005 12:02 AM

NP- I do the same thing. I am glad someone posted the site, tho. I ended up downloading the file so that I could play unconnected. Zone Alarm said that it kept trying to connect to the internet, tho...To whom, or what, I wonder?

cowhead 03-20-2005 01:37 AM

oh, to see when you had downloaded it and to when the expiration was up.. near as I understand it anyway... an old friend of mine.. everytime he started up his computer he would re-set the date to the day he bought it.. never lost a time trial demo, or any shareware (although I guess it's 'bad' for the computer... I dunno sounded like both a really good and really bad idea at the same time to me) some/most of the newer games are smarter.. but.. eh? there's always cracks.am (atleast for now)

Happy Monkey 07-22-2006 09:08 AM

I just got in the high scores for this one. Unfortunately, all that means is I wasted a ton of time.

wolf 07-22-2006 11:35 AM

I have completed God of War and Baldur's Gate Dark Alliance II for PS2.

It's amazing what you can accomplish when all you have to do is wait at home for a phone call from the ICU. Having to go back to work is going to put a serious crimp in my ability to play games.

cliza 07-31-2006 06:52 PM

I played dave and demorash for more than five years .both games are well in different ways.in dave i dont know how to move after 7th level. so i stoped there. In demo rash beating the players is very much interesting than that of coming first in the game.
