take back the web.. again
Yes, by now most people with any sense have abandoned Internet Explorer and switched to firefox. Take back the web again with this literally killer extension:

"Literally" killer? I very seriously doubt that.
|
with no loss of functionality? huh? How does disabling JS on a whitelist basis not reduce functionality? Jesus if you're that anal go back to lynx.

it literally kills javascript. Whitelisting is an awesome feature. I never turn java on unless there's a really really good reason to have it on. pages are much less capable of being annoying without javascript. |
Damn.
I thought we were going to go out and be a roving gang of vigilantes. A kind of internet town-watch. Keeping content safe for all. Approching people who put flashing ad banners on their sites and poking them in the eye with a sharp stick. Instead he's talking about software. |

It has, however, metaphorically killed Javascript. The pros and cons of which are a perfectly reasonable thing to discuss, if that were what you were attempting. But all your posts instead reek of self-marketing, which is annoying, so I was taking the opportunity to mock you and your misuse of the word "literally." But please, link us to yet another site of something totally awesome or really worth checking out. I'm sure we'd all benefit. |
Oooh. :corn:
I must say Clodfobble, your tauntage is quite excellent today. |
wow, this is fun. it is unusual to see clodfobble poking people with sticks.

I'm surprised BLB hasn't posted a link to <a href="http://greasemonkey.mozdev.org/">Greasemonkey</a> yet, the zealot-geek fanboy flavor of the month.

"cybortion" and "tauntage."
this thread is worthwhile for verbiage alone... |

Oh yay. I haven't unlimbered my pedantic muscles in a long time.
"Cybortion"? That's funny, but its more like a process-prophylactic since it prevents something from starting instead of ending something already begun. While we're on the subject of funny usage, why are y'all getting exercised about "kill" being inappropriate for describing the stopping, but no eyelash is batted when "execute" is used to describe go, run, activate? That's why this place is so cool.
Except for some very rare exceptions (and the Invasion of the Intelligence Snatchers (released in the UK as TINPeople) ... it's self-correcting. |

It seems that whitelisting javascript publishers would work pretty well, at least in the short term. Eventually, web site publishers would have to switch to serving ads from third party ad networks on the publisher's own whitelisted URLs. A popular extension for FireFox is AdBlock, which allows the reader to black list URLs with regular expression patterns. AdBlock works very well once you have a decent black list. The company I work for is one of the largest ad networks on the Internet. We serve over 9 Billion impressions per month. In a face near you. :muse: |

Personally, I don't know how I got along without using StumbleUpon.
I forget who introduced me to this surfing tool, but now I can waste hours and hours surfing sites I would never have found otherwise. On one memorable occasion, I only stopped because I noticed the sun coming up and realized that I had forgotten to sleep! a POX on your head, whoever you are! :D Brian |
