Most readable Cellarite?

This thread may crash and burn, but here goes. Voters will be anonymous, so have no fear of casting your vote. This was inspired by a perusal through several old threads where people had commented on the irritation factor of several cellarites (one included me, go figure).

I changed my mind at the last second. The original idea for the poll would inevitably become a hurtful flamefest. So i changed it at the last second, but forgot to change the title before pressing submit .

Which cellarite do you MOST like to read posts from? Even if you don't agree with them on most issues, is there someone that always makes you think about issues from a different perspective? Maybe there is someone who just makes you laugh and brightens your day?

There are a few names listed, if you aren't there, don't take it personal, i just listed the names that came to mind immediately.

There is also a "write in" poll option. tell us who i forgot and why you value their posts.

lookout123 06-01-2005 02:44 PM

For me it was a very close decision but I have to go with RichLevy, because of the way that he posts. I rarely agree with his views, but I always respect them. Rich has a well thought out rationale for his beliefs and he explains his beliefs in a calm, non-insulting manner.
I don't recall ever seeing him resort to namecalling or broadbrush stereotyping. I know that because i don't agree with much of what he says, that i will always get a different perspective which enables me to test my own beliefs.

so for those reasons, i always pay special attention to RichLevy's posts.

chainsaw 06-01-2005 03:06 PM

My "write in" is for wolf. :D She's always got something funny or interesting to say.

Troubleshooter 06-01-2005 03:14 PM

Write in:

Elspode

Even if he's a big ole screaming hippy, pagan, tree hugging weirdo, his posts usually generate the most understanding and/or the least conflict out of anybody I can think of.

Edit: Damn, fine, whiner...

jaguar 06-01-2005 03:16 PM

write in for Hubris Boy.

mrnoodle 06-01-2005 03:23 PM

I had a hard time choosing between UT, LJ, and xoB. Finally went with Bruce for the simple fact that he bought my CD. :D

That, and he displays a good balance of whimsy and outrage, each at their appropriate time. And there's the dodad thread, of course.

It's kind of a big tie between about 7 people, actually. Tough call. elspode, wolf, all of you are entertaining and/or infuriating in your own way.

Trilby 06-01-2005 03:25 PM

I vote for wolf. She always cracks me up and/or makes me think about things in a completely different way.

Undertoad 06-01-2005 03:29 PM

Most annoying?

Trilby 06-01-2005 03:30 PM

No---lookout changed the thread idea! read his first post. he wants to play nice!

Pie 06-01-2005 03:33 PM

Gosh, so many you didn't list! My #1 fav is elspode... With Wolf, BigV, and Jag in there. Each one for different reasons...

melidasaur 06-01-2005 03:44 PM

wolf... her posts are always witty and insightful.

kerosene 06-01-2005 04:00 PM

I put a write in for perth, but only because I know him IRL and his posts crack me up, knowing him personally.

2nd place goes to staceyv. I can't put my finger on why, but reading about the neuroses of her life are funny and often very entertaining.

Clodfobble 06-01-2005 04:29 PM

I voted for xoxoxoBruce. His comments are almost always the most insightful in my opinion.

Actually, now that I think about it I wasn't really basing it on whose posts I enjoy the most. That'd be too hard. Instead I chose based on whose posts I value most.

lookout123 06-01-2005 04:35 PM

UT - i'm sorry for the confusion, i'm a dumbass and forgot to change the thread title. i just decided that their would be no way to prevent it from spirally into negativity and that wasn't what i wanted. you can change it to something more appopriate if you like.

Undertoad 06-01-2005 04:45 PM

done

SteveDallas 06-01-2005 05:02 PM

If nominated, I will not run; if elected, I will not serve.

lumberjim 06-01-2005 05:22 PM

was it wrong of me to vote for myself? kidding! i gotta write one in.

actually, 3. no, 4.

jinx.
clodfobble.
mrnoodle.
stacy

oh, fuck you, lookout, you simpering prick. i like to read lots of people. it depends on what;s going on in their life. and what i'm in the mood to read.

not that i'm able to stay abreast of things anymore.

and you know how important it is to stay a breast.

Though my posts are clearly the best here, I'll go with Ep or Griff.

lookout123 06-01-2005 07:45 PM

i knew i shouldn't have even put the poll up on top, because there was just no way to include everyone i really enjoy - but when people see a poll they always check the thread... so here we are.

and LJ, thanks man - i appreciate it. i realize that out of my 3,000+ posts there is exactly one insightful comment... if only i could remember what it was.

richlevy 06-01-2005 07:52 PM

Thanks for your vote, Lookout, but I voted for TW. OK, maybe not 'most readable', but definitely 'most worth reading'. I like the way he constructs his arguments. He can be more than a bit long-winded, but I appreciate the thought that goes into the process.

That being said, I also like reading Bruce and Jaguar. I believe Bruce initiates more than Jaguar, who usually bats cleanup on some threads.

I also like some of Lookouts stuff.

Onyxcouger and Stacy do a lot of relationship stuff, which can be interesting. Onyx has some interesting political arguments when she goes there. The same with UT.

Bruce, BusterB, and Wolf just have interesting lives, so I look forward to their comments.

All in all, a nice can of mixed nuts.

Nice try...I'm still not gonna sleep with yah.

elSicomoro 06-01-2005 08:19 PM

But I thought you loved me, Griff. You told me that you'd leave Pete once I left Rhoda. You bastard!!!

wolf 06-02-2005 12:57 AM

As far as the vote goes, I went for xoxoxoBruce:love:, and I'm not embarrassed to say it. Bruce has some of the coolest stuff on the face of the earth, and in sharing it all with us has enriched us.

It is a shame this was a one vote poll, because I'd have made multiple selections ... everybody (with some very, very rare exceptions) has said something somewhere along the way that makes me think, laugh, ponder, and sometimes even mourn with them.

Trilby 06-02-2005 09:35 AM

Wolf--I sincerely hate to tell you this, but all your currying favor with bruce isn't going to make him yours. You think that by basting his ego with your juicy bits that he will fall into your trap and become your man. YOU ARE SO WRONG! bruce and I have something...well, it's very special. I don't expect you to understand. Now just quit trying to have your way with my man!! That's right--MINE!

Now, continue with the thread.

OnyxCougar 06-02-2005 09:47 AM

Um, sorry. Bruce is *mine*. Go scratch in someone else's sandbox.

As far as posters, my choice is Bruce, with a write in of Elspode and Wolf.

I also enjoy MrNoodle's stuff.

vsp 06-02-2005 10:03 AM

Writing in Mike Smith.

SteveDallas 06-02-2005 10:17 AM

Well hell in that case is it too late to vote for Barak?

Ditto to all of post #20, what keeps bringing me back here is that there is a really nice cross section of people with different backgrounds. I love being able to come here and open up my narrow little Iowa mind to lots of things I was ignorant about. It's just a great group of 'friends', each with their own quirks and tendancies, but all deep down kind hearted, honest people (some deeper than others... :D ). I think the common thread in us all is that we are trying to make out the best we can using the hand we were delt. :comfort:

And we all love sex. :doit:

While I'm with Wolf in that I think that *everyone* here has something remarkable to offer from time to time, on the strict basis of consistent quality of input, I vote Bruce...

I do grok Mike Smith, though.

lookout123 06-02-2005 04:31 PM

ok, i'll bite. who is mike smith? (besides a numskull cousin of mine)

kerosene 06-02-2005 04:41 PM

And my band director from high school?

lookout123 06-02-2005 04:42 PM

my cousin was your band director?

kerosene 06-02-2005 04:43 PM

maybe...

glatt 06-02-2005 04:50 PM

Mike Smith was this temp who worked with us several years back. He was the best temp we ever had. I didn't know you were related.

elSicomoro 06-02-2005 04:50 PM

I don't know Mike Smith, but have you ever had to look for Mike Hunt?

kerosene 06-02-2005 04:52 PM

No, but I have looked for Mike Hunt.

lookout123 06-02-2005 04:54 PM

give me a call next time he goes missing. i'm always up for a good search and rescue mission.

elSicomoro 06-02-2005 04:54 PM

When I was a teenager, some friends and I called a bowling alley one night...

Us: "Hi, we're looking for Mike Hunt."

Bowling alley: "Why? Did you lose one?"

kerosene 06-02-2005 05:53 PM

Have you ever heard an airport announcement for Mike Hunt?

elSicomoro 06-02-2005 05:54 PM

No, but I have heard one for I.P. Freely.

kerosene 06-02-2005 05:56 PM

As have I.

staceyv 06-02-2005 06:03 PM

Catwoman
Brianna
Case
LJ
in no particular order and not all inclusive.

lumberjim 06-02-2005 07:41 PM

whoa. you lump me in with the chicks?

guess it's my sensitive nature.

Lady Sidhe 06-02-2005 08:08 PM

First and foremost,

Smoothmoniker: because the posts are always extremely lucid, well-thought-out (IMHO), and make a lot of sense, even if I don't agree. There's something to be said for diplomacy, especially here.

then, just to make it egalitarian,

Catwoman: because, like me, she refuses to back down from her opinions. She seems to have thought out her reasons for them, and while I don't agree, I respect her steadfastness-- because I'm right there with her, albeit on the opposite side...

edit: ok, ok...upon further reflection, I have to add two more:

StaceyV, just because she's probably the most straight-up, direct, say-what-she-means person here, and she's funny as hell doing it

and Troubleshooter, because I live with him, and damned if I STILL don't know what he's going to come out with next...

lumberjim 06-02-2005 08:10 PM

yeah.....that's kind of spooky actually. :chills: you two would probably annihilate each other if you ever touched.

Ok, was that in response to me, and if so, I'm presuming you meant me and Catwoman, not me and TS.... :D

Yeah, I think Catwoman and I would probably explode if we ever met in r/l....kinda like matter/antimatter  But that's the beauty of the internet...it lets people get together and exchange ideas, and the only weapons one can use are words and evil lil smiley faces, and neither one causes permanent damage. Gotta love that.

I don't have anything against CW personally at all. Our ideas just don't like each other. And I know that if I ever want a good argument, all I have to do is bring up CP, and it's on. That's reassuring...one has to take comfort in the little things, you know?

Elspode 06-02-2005 10:55 PM

Mike Smith = Valentine Michael Smith, protagonist of the immortal "Stranger in a Strange Land", by Robert Heinlein.

This book is often cited by Pagans as a formative read in their nonstandard religious development. It certainly was in mine, anyway.

In this context, you do not. Although he may have at one point claimed that he somehow gave the idea to RAH despite the book having been written before he was born.

A legendary nutcase from the Cellar's dial-up BBS era. Toad can reveal more, if he feels like it.

Undertoad 06-03-2005 06:42 AM

Reveal isn't really the right word. There isn't much to say I think. I didn't see much of his antics personally as I tended to stay away from the places he hung out. He was a legendary ass, one of those guys whose strong personality pissed everyone off, but he also was a habitual liar who convinced a set of young BBSers that he was a Navy pilot with a black belt etc. when he was actually 350 lbs and living in his parent's basement.

In the more closed community of the pre-Internet day, personalities like that could get around. You'd get second-hand stories of how Mike Smith said this or Mike Smith did that, etc.

wolf 06-03-2005 08:46 AM

You left out biggest witch on the east coast, and had a doctorate.

I royally pissed him off by calling the university he said he had a doctorate from and learning that they didn't offer doctorates. They stopped at Master's.

Oh, and I also called a Navy Recruiter to ask about the height requirements for pilots, because I knew that he was too tall.

vsp 06-03-2005 09:42 AM

Sssh, or he'll follow through on his threat to destroy every BBS in the 215 area code that doesn't kiss his ass. Assuming that his technological capabilities have increased over the years, he can probably bring down teleconnectivity for the whole Eastern Seaboard and knock over SEPTA buses just by thinking hard in their direction by now.

If it helps hasten the end of SEPTA, I'm all for it!

ask a question... get some answers. thanks.

Elspode 06-03-2005 11:07 AM

 Ah, damn...sounds like the East Coast version of our own Midwestern Pagan plague who goes by the handle of "Talesin". What a dick.

So much for my being insightful...

Troubleshooter 06-03-2005 12:47 PM

I grok VMS as well.

He showed up at a developmentally critical time in my life as well.

lookout123 06-03-2005 05:33 PM

ok, now what the hell is "grok"?

BigV 06-03-2005 06:29 PM

l123:

d'ja ever look at a chart of a stock and intuitively know what you needed to know about the situation? You "grokked" the situation.

Troubleshooter 06-03-2005 06:54 PM

In Stranger In a Strange Land, it meant a bit more than that. The whole idea being that when you understand something sufficiently, you are unable to take any emotional stance for or against that something without allowing it to stop you from making the right decision. To be able to hate something at the same time as you love it equally and eithr kill it or nurture as necessary.

In a more terrestrial sense it means to grasp something so thoroughly or intuitively enough that...

Ever have a moment of clarity?
