8/14/2006: Another mixed-species adoption?

Really late today and so I'm shipping this one, because there's no full story. This one came across a few wacky image blogs I follow; if a story comes around for it I'll note it. Otherwise, it's appealing, a pretty sharp photo, and I do love the dog's expression.

I think that's posed. Look at the strap around the dog's arm and neck - someone's forcing the dog to let cats - CATS, I tell ya - to suckle. Is that even legal?

"... dogs and cats living together - mass hysteria"

If dogs and cats can get along, maybe men and women can too???

I did a quick google search for this - here's a link to the story from National Geographic News:

If she was my bitch, I'd be asking questions!
"No, darling, I swear their your pubs, tiger next door, what tiger?"

Undertoad 08-15-2006 09:23 AM

Well done charmzny, thanks!

Yup, it's all ahhhhhh, lovely until you come across this:

It may not even be the oddest recent example of cross-species suckling. As of February, India's Namatia Ghosh, 46, was still breastfeeding the pet monkey her husband found orphaned several years ago. "He is my son," she told BBC News.
Still, I suppose it gives an interesting answer to the vegan argument that cows milk is only for calves - no other animal in nature consumes another animal's milk etc.

And Tippy? Nearly spat my tea out over that one

Undertoad 08-15-2006 09:29 AM

A human/monkey thing was an IotD in 2002: http://cellar.org/iotd.php?threadid=1029

And then a human/tiger: http://cellar.org/iotd.php?threadid=8089

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing as I read the story. (And, Undertoad, no problem! I like doing searches :) )

The tiger-nursing woman reminds me of a Belle and Sebastian album cover...

The fact that there is one baby puppy leads me to believe that this mother doggy had recently lost most of her litter, and still had an over-abundance of milk and maternal instinct, which was quickly made use of. EDIT: Looks like there are two pups in there, still not alot.
